The current track is being expanded to follow the old layout. Here's some pictures from a while back.

Seems the A1 Ring may be getting modifications to follow the old layout.

Obviously it's unclear at this stage just how much they are re-adding, or if it would be used for F1.

WEC at the RBR. Sounds good to me :). With the new expansion of the track, it should be a really good fit. The cars will look spectacular on that track.

This would be as cool as rebuilding the old Hockenheim just for endurance races (that track was simply perfect to host WEC and ELMS).

I like the look of that. And the sound of the old Hockenheim ring coming back?

Why would they be good. Nobody went to them as F1 races, what makes you think WEC would get people there?

If it Asia then Sepang would be more likely. As for a second race in the US, I'd go for Road America every single time.

I think they be good for the racing and they are highly unlikely because of what would be crap attendance numbers.

With Le Mans coming up, have any teams pulled out??

Or better yet, have enough teams pulled out to get the Viper in? :sly:

As stated, the Sebring 12 hours is not likely to budge. ISC has the lease to Sebring and is calling the shots in that regard.

Florida has a pretty narrow window for racing due to the weather which would put a WEC standalone event at the track too close to the 12 to benefit either series. Maybe if the WEC became a winter series it could happen, as a late october or early november date could give enough cusion between them, but thats still close to another Florida endurance event...

Winter series is a total non starter for timezone reasons for their core market which is Europe.

Series still starts too late though. I'd run Bahrain as the first round in march and then go to Monza (or mugello, it's a much better track) in April. Then Spa in May ahead of Le Mans in June. Silverstone in July then Nurburgring in August. After that the far east fly aways then finish the season with the American fly aways, preferably finishing in Brazil.

Is that..Virginia International Raceway they are at?

I think it's average looking. Not really a fan of lmp3 as they just get in the way of the GTE class races. I think they need to be run by themselves or something. More like a stepping stone to lmp2 or lmp1, not a class that clutters up ACO style endurance races with the slow AM drivers.

Every time I click "Show Ignored Content", I'm reminded as to why I ignored that content in the first place.

Alas, curiosity kills the cat every now and then.

Keeping on topic: Comparing fastest laps is quite possibly some of the most useless, most anecdotal evidence one could possibly assemble. Especially when the classes in question also feature Pro drivers, which, since you didnt specify, we'll safely assume were behind the wheel to set those laps.

Average lap times would be much more useful, especially when the average exclusively comes from the Am drivers. And if more than one LMP3 falls into a range below GTE, then trustjabs point is more than justified.

Well with that argument it would be like comparing the bykolles to a motorised wheel chair.....

Actually that might be unfair to the motorised wheel chair.
