If someone's having that kinda season, hell yes I wanna see that. That shows pure dominance.

Cool, doesn't really show a consensus considering the reason we have the chase is because of dominant seasons in the original point system. The best solution to many is to make the points spread larger and give less finish points spots.

It looks absolutely beautiful! :eek::bowdown:

If Tony can fit into an F1 car I'm sure Carl could as well.

On the topic of Carl, it's very surprising that this is coming out so close to the season starting. Hopefully that's not a sign of anything serious and more just wanting to get off the sinking ship while there is time.

Watching SportsCenter, Ricky Craven was talking about it. According to him, Carl talked to Joe Gibbs about it around Christmas. Ricky also compared this to Tiki Barber retiring with a lot of career (potentially, nothing is in stone) in front of him when he decided that's enough.

I think we'll hear something very similar to what Nico said. I also think it'll be more accepted with Carl than it was with Nico just because he's been in Cup for over a decade. I remember when he replaced Jeff Burton in the 99, and by extension the wreck with Jr at...Atlanta?

He's had his heel moments, most involve Keselowski, but he's been at it for years, been competitive most of them, and most of what we've seen has been a very respectable person. No saint, but definitely not a bad guy. I wish the best for him whatever he does.

Anyone else on the Fan Council here? Just got a survey having to do with my feelings on certain things pertaining to TV coverage and possible changes to the Chase which some might actually like. Due to NASCAR's confidentiality agreement with Council Members, can't really elaborate. I know that's a huge tease essentially but just wondering who else might possibly be a member and if they got a little taste of what might possibly change? If you aren't on the Council, look into it because it gives you a chance to speak with NASCAR directly about things and not just vent on social media about how you feel.

While I would feel its abit of a useless endeavor considering the decisions NASCAR has made, it is somewhat more productive then just sitting here and fuming so I'll take a shot at it. Anywhere I can sign up?

So this portion got me, Nico had been in F1 for a decade as well. And considering he probably only had a few more years in him anyways before people would be rushing him out the back door, unlike NASCAR drivers, I don't see the point here. Nico wasn't accepted because the claim was that one he didn't quit for the reasons he claimed and two if he didn't quit for the claimed reason it was because he lucked into a WDC. Now I personally am not one to believe this, but I also don't see his duration being a reason as to why people didn't accept his retirement.

Personally I see it as people most of all just can't comprehend how a champion leaves when he has a good shot at becoming champion again.

I think it's like the Felipe Massa retirement in that JGR needed a free seat to put Daniel Suarez in (I don't mean anything against him with that, it will be great to see him in the Cup series and I think he will do a good job) and Edwards was the most willing to take the bullet, I'm sure if any of the current 4 had to miss the season for any reason he would jump straight back into the car.

I'm completely sad by seeing my favorite driver going out... I don't know who to support for next season ATM...

The moment you realize last 3 nascar games have had drivers who would later retire :( ( Stewart in '14, Gordon in '15,Edwards in NHE )

Edwards gave 3 reasons why he's retiring:

1) He's satisfied with his racing career
2)He wants to take time and spend time with family members
3) His health

And hes retiring from FULL TIME racing which means he could do what Gordon did and do some Part Time, he's also open to being a nascar broadcaster in the future

Would love to see him in IMSA. :D

Interesting that he mentions his health as I can't really seem to recall at any point where it was a concern.

I don't think it's a concern now, but he wan't to remain healthy instead. No use being physically impaired and deciding to hang it up. I'd still want the be able to do things once I get out.

He's doing exactly what NASCAR should be doing.

Thinking proactively, not reactively.

Lots of speculation here but his wife works with traumatic brain injuries and I'm sure it's been a concern for a long time and especially now that Dale Jr had his deal. Quit while you are ahead and have lots of money. It seems understandable to me.
