Watford have already sacked their manager. Garcia did well to make it to a third season at Watford after their revolving door policies before, but he's lasted 4 games...

EDIT: Looks like Quique Sanches Flores has been reappointed Watford manager. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49622403
When was the last time a manager came back to a club not too long after being fired from there?

Apparently the international break is an excuse to switch up managers...

Out
Southend United - Kevin Bond
Watford - Javi Gracia
Stevenage - Dino Maamria

In
Sheffield Wednesday - Garry Monk (two months after Bruce left...)
Watford - Quique Sanches Flores ()

Duly noted.

6th September - Kevin Bond (Southend United, resigned) League One
8th September - Javi Garcia (Watford, sacked) Premier League
9th September - Dino Maamria (Stevenage, sacked) League Two

Resigned - 3
Sacked - 3

Total: 6

Garry Monk. Two months. That's a long time to appoint a new full-time manager. You'd think that that means he's the outstanding candidate after an exhaustive process. Hope he's not gone before 18 months...

Danny Cowley has taken over Huddersfield with his brother.

Wow, I am shocked that a sport where you are intravenously fed nothing but gambling, gambling, gambling at every match has seen a player fall foul of betting rules which, whilst we're on the subject, are totally backwards and a reckless double standard; professional players cannot bet on a match involving any team from the top eight divisions but clubs are free to maximise, milk and drain as much money as they can from gambling companies.

Irony: he won't be able to make money being a billboard for gambling because he spent money gambling on the wrong thing.

Seriously, why would a person earning thousands a week want to gamble on the one and only sport that they are not allowed to bet on, for pretty obvious reasons? AFAIK, footballers are not prevented from betting on non-football events (although I stand to be corrected if that is not the case), but a professional footballer betting on football games is, frankly, idiotic... not to mention highly suspicious and supremely greedy.

I don't disagree that footballers betting on football creates all kinds of conflicts of interest but with today's 24/7 instant markets and gross increase in disposable income for professionals, young players graduating into the game do need some guidance or have help available if they need it.

It's more the fact that teams and divisions are coated in betting companies that really stands out. You could take any standard English Football League team and it looks like this:

Team:
32RED

Division:
SkyBet

Match Programme Line-Ups:
Ladbrokes

TV Ad Breaks & Stadium Adverts:
betway, betfair, bet365

But hey, when the fun stops, stop.

Premier League returns after the international break, here are this weekends games.

Saturday
Brighton v Burnley
Liverpool v Newcastle (12.30 BT)
Man United v Leicester
Norwich v Man City (5.30 Sky)
Sheffield United v Southampton
Tottenham v Crystal Palace
Wolves v Chelsea

Sunday
Bournemouth v Everton (2pm Sky)
Watford v Arsenal (4.30 Sky)

Monday Night
Aston Villa v West Ham (8pm Sky)

Not exactly a stellar line-up of games but a few interesting ones, Norwich v Man City sounds interesting but Norwich are missing a few players, Man United missing a few players for tomorrow too, which makes a very tricky game a very difficult one against a good Leicester team.

Todays results.

Liverpool 3-1 Newcastle
Brighton 1-1 Burnley
Tottenham 4-0 Crystal Palace
Wolves 2-5 Chelsea
Man United 1-0 Leicester
Sheffield United 0-1 Southampton

All four Spurs goals came in the first half, Abraham scored a hat-trick in Chelsea's thumping win plus he also got an own goal, Newcastle took the lead in the Liverpool game, Man United just edged their game thanks to another penalty, from Rashford this time.

Norwich v Man City on next and Norwich are missing 11 players.

So of course Man City should win it in a walk away right? Not so fast. Norwich City 3 Man City 2. Norwich played their hearts out and were clearly out of gas at the end but they got it done. Well done Norwich City 👍

Norwich 3-2 Man City

What a game this was and what a result for Norwich. They went 2-0 up in the first half through McLean and a counter goal from Pukki and then Aguero got one back just before half time, a defensive disaster by City put Pukki through and 3-1 to Norwich and then a great strike from Rodri made it 3-2.

I saw mostly bits and pieces of Tottenham Hotspur vs. Crystal Palace. I didn't see Tottenham hang 4 goals on CP, but I mostly learned of the score watching ESPN's Bottom Line. I saw the game ended 4-0 in favor of Tottenham. All congratulations to Tottenham nonetheless.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, I read on Yahoo! Sports of Norwich taking down Manchester City 3-2. Man. City is no joke. So this was huge for Norwich to pull this one off.

Anssumane Fati, remember the name, He is a 16 year old Guinean attacker who is at Barcelona and is from their academy.

He started for Barcelona against Valencia tonight and he got a goal and an assist in the first seven minutes in a 5-2 win.

Some great results yesterday, although with a Laporte-less City dropping points is the League Liverpools to lose? Too eary to say, but I'm not enjoying them being at the top.

United managed a 1-0 win against Leicester, I'm happy with the 3 points but we didn't play that well overall. We stepped up in tempo when Fred and Chong came on later on. It wasn't a dire performance before then, just flat. We still lack that spark up front, that player with a proper eye for a goal. Rashford, as much as a I love him being a local lad and an academy product, isn't that player.

I think Martial is better up front and I think when he's back fit, Rashford should support Martial, not the other way round. But 1-0, 3 points, pleased with that against a good team, especially considering the players we have out injured at the moment.

Bournemouth 3-1 Everton and Watford 2-2 Arsenal in todays games.

Goals from Wilson with two and Fraser with the other for Bournemouth and Calvert-Lewin for Everton, Bournemouth deserved their win and Everton weren't clinical in attack.

Watford-Arsenal was a great game, Aubameyang with two in the first half but then Arsenal defensive problems arose once again, a calamity at the back similar to the one Man City had yesterday lead to Cleverley's equaliser and David Luiz clumsily gave away a penalty which Pereyra converted, Great performance and Comeback from Watford on Flores return.

David De Gea signs new contract at Man United until 2023 with option for a further year, his previous contract expired at the end of the season.

He has had a dip in form in the last year or so but in my opinion he is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world, so this is obviously excellent news. 👍

Caution: NSFW

I just love the Newcastle guy trying to work out where the ball went.

Not really NSFW, unless you work in Newcastle...

There was also this today.

'I don't see any other player like Lukaku, I really like him. The only way to stop is to tell him 'here are ten bananas you can eat''.

That was from an Italian TV Pundit Luciano Passirani, who has since been suspended.

Absolutely disgusting and I cant see how in any walk of life that that would be acceptable.

There was an altercation between Tyrone Mings and Anwar El Ghazi of Aston Villa during their 0-0 v West Ham last night where it appeared that they clash heads and their team-mates had to step in, manager Dean Smith said they wont face punishment for it.

Calgliari wont face any sanctions following the alledged racist from its fans towards Romelu Lukaku.

Udinese's Rodrigo De Paul has been given a three match ban for slapping Inter's Antonio Candreva this weekend. Who would slap such a meme worthy face?

It is terrible to see what that disease does to a human.
Turning into a prisoner of your body.

Desperately sad news, I believe he was part of the Dortmund team who won Champions League in 1996, a fantastic footballer.

RIP Fernando Ricksen

Not a good start so far for English teams in the Champion's League. Defending champions Liverpool were beaten 2-0 yesterday by Napoli. Chelsea was beaten at home 1-0 by Valencia and now Tottenham has blown a 2-0 lead to Olympiacos and came away with a 2-2 draw. Manchester City is up next.

Real Madrid got beat by a PSG team without Neymar and Mbappe and were terrible, Real didn't register their first shot on target until the 90th minute, Hazard and Bale were non-existent, Idrrisa 'Gana' Gueye ran the show in midfield for PSG.

@adamp93 Yep, clear handball and it looked pretty intentional too and as you say, it would have been disallowed under the old rules, providing it was noticed of course.

I quite like the new handball rule anyway, players shouldn't be scoring or be credited with an assist when it's come off their hand, intentional or not. What I don't like is you can still score a handball own goal, which just feels wrong now with the rule change but I'll just have to get used to it because a change to this will just create more problems to solve.

I think the new handball rule is great. It completely removes any grey area and means pundits and managers can't bang on about "It WaSn'T a HaNdBaLl" for ages after the match. If the arms aren't supposed to be used in football, why allow them in certain situations.
