He is still a great player, but he is on the decline and has been for the last year or so lets be honest.

I don't think there is any news regarding the potential transfer, still that Mendes is in talks with City over personal terms but City yet to make a formal bid. He said his goodbye's in training this morning and won't play on the weekend.

I agree, but to be honest I don't blame the Galzers for not going after him. As good as he is, he isn't what we need. We have plenty of goal scorers, but we don't move the ball fast enough through the midfield or create enough chances in tight games IMO. The creating chances will hopefully improve with the likes of Sancho, and with Varane comeing in maybe we can push up higher as a team and get the ball moving forward quicker as a result. But IMO we really need a defensive midfielder who can mop up and make qucik forward passes far more than we need another forward. That'd free up another midflieder to be proper box to box rather than have two holding.

If that means he ends up at City, so be it. But IMO We'd be signing Ronaldo just to stop him going elsewhere rather han because we need him. He's 37 soon, City have offered over £500k per week, if he came to United he'd take free kicks off Bruno, number 7 off Cavani and want to start every match. It could cause disruption in the team, especially when it comes to wages. We've already seen that with Sanchez, I don't think the club wants to do that again. And look at the longer term impact doing deals like this on a regualr basis has had on the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. City can ride it financially, I don't think United could.

Don't get me know, the sentimental side of me would have loved to have seen him come back, and I'd have been giddy at the prospect of seeing him back in a United shirt if we had gone for him. But when I think about it logically, I think the time for us to have brought him back where it also made sense on the pitch has long gone.

He's still a great player, but not what we need given what we've got and where our problems currently are.
I agree, I just think that the fans shouldn't take this too serious. It's not like he has 10 options to go to and will choose the one that "hurts" Man United the most. Out of the two realistic options (apart from some random MLS team or Qatari team or whatever who might have the money to do so), while PSG is dependent on the sale of Mbappe, City is the only other option.

I would still prefer that he went to PSG, to make the dream happen. Not sure how he would/will fit Man City, and especially Guardiola style. But the same could be said for Haaland or Harry Kane. He could not fit at all, or could score twice the amount of goals he had for Juve.

Speaking of, latest development, United are now in talks with Ronaldo's agent and Solskjaer has just heavily hinted United want to bring him to Old Trafford.

That makes me giddy as a fan, but I don't think he'll cover over the cracks in our team. Given we said no when he left Real, this looks like we just don't want him to go to City. Ronaldo is on a private jet right now and his agent is talking to both clubs.

That said, I think we still had Mourinho when Ronaldo left Real and I don't think Jose got on with him, so maybe something in that as to why we said no back then.

Straight swap with Anthony Martial, please.

Guess we'll soon see the Bugatti La Voiture Noire ambling around the streets of Wilmslow then.

CR has always... bothered me slightly. I mean, I don't like the guy as a footballer anyway - he embodies that whole preening, flouncing, tantrum aspect of modern football - but there's something else that really sets my brain to full alert. There's just something about him that creeps me out.

I don't know exactly what it is, but if we find out in 15 years that he's behind a string of vampirism-related prostitute murders - or that he has a sprawling dungeon network under his home and that's where Maddie really is - I won't actually be able to express any surprise about it. Though I'm sure he's totally angelic and wouldn't harm even a dustmite, and doesn't do anything weirder than sleeping under a sheet made entirely out of £100 notes, 40-ply.

Am quite happy right now, Fergie on his way to meet his lad. (Ronaldo) Happy days.

That's oddly specific. I mean, I've seen haters come up with weird ****, like "he only won the ballon d'or because he has abs", and "Ronaldo has more goals than Messi for the national team because he scores against small teams, while Messi scores against big teams, like Mexico" (ah yes, Mexico, the usual WC title contenders), but that's a first.

I know what that is, pure, blind, hatred. You can dislike someone if you want, it's quite normal, but damn, to the point that that person is a murderer and kidnapper... is a bit of a stretch.

It's funny how opinions change in a moment isn't it .

That's why I reserve judgment until after the fact, and don't assume something has happened before it has.

@dacc10 @Famine isn't saying Ronaldo is a murderer and kidnapper, just making a joke that there's something about him he finds creepy.

I think Ronaldo is a kinder person than most people give him credit for, off the pitch he comes across as a nicer person than Messi but it's his primadonna attitude on the pitch that people see and judge. Away from the spotlight he seems to be more of an introvert, keeps himself to himself.

Then again, isn't that how some neighbors described Jeffrey Dahmer ;) .

At the end of they day, footballers are just people, no different to you and me, only much richer (I assume). They aren't all nice people, they certainly aren't all role models.

Good job I didn't say that then.

Odd that the vampirism bit gets a free pass though.

I know, I just find it weird how specific that was. And those were some serious "accusations" against whoever it may be. I personally wouldn't like to be the target of said "joke", so yeah, I was kind of surprised. But I guess "it was just a prank bro".

For me I watch football for, well, the football. It's not a dating show, where my interpretation of someone's personality matters (and even then, anyone can put on a "mask" and pretend to be a good person in front of the cameras).

Anyways, Ronaldo is closer to MU. PSG supposedly making a move for Haaland.

Good job I didn't say that then.

Odd that the vampirism bit gets a free pass though.
It was implicit in the murderer part. Didn't know you wanted a word-by-word breakdown, sorry, will try to do better next time.

Btw, I'm not a vampire.

accusations
Nope.
Nope.
Nope.
I just find it weird how specific that was.
It's called "having an imagination" and "creative writing".

Cristiano Ronaldo creeps me out for some reason. I cannot put a finger on why, but he creeps me out. Every time I see him, my limbic system goes immediately to set the rest of my brain on edge. As a result, if it turns out that in a few years time he's discovered being the perpetrator of [insert whatever sick crap your imagination can come up with here] I won't be surprised by it because of how much he creeps me out now.

I got the same feeling with Michael Jackson, and wasn't surprised when the whole thing with him and Jordy Chandler first popped up in 1993 (and that was only the start of it). I get the same feeling with Cliff Richard, so I wasn't surprised when his house was raided for noncing - though it turned out to be totally unjustified, which did surprise me.

Feel free to disagree with me, or be revulsed by the random examples of things that wouldn't surprise me if they came to light, but I've made no accusations, haven't expressed any hatred (I liked Michael Jackson's music, up until Earth Song), and haven't said he's a murderer or kidnapper at any point - and you don't get to say that I have. Edit: Insulting me again will not go the way you think.

I also left open the possibility that my lizard brain is wrong to feel creeped out by him (as it has been so far about Cliff Richard):

Though I'm sure he's totally angelic and wouldn't harm even a dustmite, and doesn't do anything weirder than sleeping under a sheet made entirely out of £100 notes, 40-ply.

Nope. Vampirism involves ingesting other people's blood. They don't need to be dead or killed to do that - in fact it's an extreme paraphilia that's conducted with consent (though I think it might be illegal at least in the UK).

Anyway, it'll make the Premier League more interesting again. By which I mean unwatchable, though I don't and can't watch it anyway, so there's that.

Ronaldo to United has been agreed, the fee is €15m plus addons.

He's expected to have a medical in Lisbon.

I'm torn on this, I'm looking forward to seeing him back in a United short, but I still think we really, really, needed a defensive midfielder.

I'm sure he'll do great for us, it might upset Cavani a bit though.

the fee is beleived to be €20m
What. The ****? Makes £8m for Jordan Rhodes look like terrible business. Wait, bad example.

I bet his salary over two years is more than that transfer fee!

Harry Maguire ad Bruno Fernandes have been tweeting about it now.

I'm buzzing, so happy! 😁😁

It's actually less, it's €15m with €8m in addons, but apparently the addons guarantee Juventus will get €20m.

Event though he's expected to be taking less than 50% of what he was on at Juventus the salary will be huge. Expect around £500k per week and you'll be close. He was on over £1m per week at Juventus.

His salary over 1 year will be thereabouts if not more than that trasfer fee.

Actually scratching my head on this one at the moment. It was widely reported yesterday that City and Ronaldo had agreed terms, but the sticking point was Juventus's transfer fee. Now after City and Juve couldn't reach an accommodation he's agreed terms with United.

It does rather speak to whether he considers United "home", but then I guess most footballers are pretty mercernary* so it's not exactly unusual - even Grealish moved, though by all accounts it's because everyone thought Villa could do with £100m more than him for a season. But still, cheering on a guy as if he's a home hero when he would have happily been playing for your rivals if only they'd paid the company that held his contract a bit more money a bit earlier...

And yes, we've sold a few guys to the Pigs and vice versa

*Note, this does not mean that I think Ronaldo is literally a mercernary, killing his way through a rainforest in a CIA proxy war

He still has to pass a medical and agree personal terms, which hopefully should be a formality!

It'll give the whole club a lift from top to bottom, and imagine what'll be like for the likes of Sancho, Greenwood and Amad to play alongside him and train with him for two years.

I've also thought about Man City and the wild Summer they have had:

Aguero left.
Almost signed Messi but didn't sign Messi.
Almost signed Kane but didn't sign Kane.
Almost signed Ronaldo but didn't sign Ronaldo.
Signed Grealish for £100 million.
Ben Mendy...who was remanded in custody today.

I'm looking forward to seeing him back in a United short, but I still think we really, really, needed a defensive midfielder.
Maybe it's a new position for him, seeing as people have said he's a bit slower than he was. ;)

Pogba and Ronaldo in the same team! 😳 I hope they get on, because those are quite large ego's/personalities to be in one team.

Ronaldo signing for Man City would still have been nowhere near as controversial as Mo Johnston signing for Rangers.

Aguero/ Become very Injury prone and age a factor.

Messi/ Big wages/silly money. Thats why city also walked away from Ronaldo deal before Man utd stepped in. (By the way am glad you got him, Am happy for you)

Kane/ Am so happy that City didn,t give in to Levy, He,s well known for being a hard negotiator, Read Fergies book for what trouble he had in past, (Berbatov) and his price might be justifiable to Levy but for me too much in the current market for a 28 year old.

Ronaldo/ Never wanted him personally but it would of been a big wind up coming to City over UTD. Plenty of forums and people made me laugh in the day how Man Utd fans getting wound up.

Has for money grabber mercenary, Not sure because City would of being paying same type of wages.
I do like Souness,s comments.

Graeme Souness brands Cristiano Ronaldo a "passenger" and makes Liverpool prediction

Has for Grealish for £100 million/ Villa Owners put a clause in his contract thinking it wouldn,t be touched, City got him for he plays the way City want forwards to play. Plus English quota. Plus age. And with the contract clause it was an easier deal than others to get done when they don,t have clauses.

I will also add that Sancho sell on cluase City recouped approx 16 Million. Angelino 16 million plus other fringe players/Academy players we recouped approx 60 Million.
Plus if you look at Arsenel, And if you belive the text on sky sports news transfers they have spent on several players a total of 107 million.
So like many a managers say you do have to spend to keep up with current trends of football?

Has for Mendy, Well what a utter plonker, Time will tell with outcome but he should never have put himself in a situation he or others can,t control.
Do footballers never learn. :(

---------------
Also will add the third kit scenario is awful IMO but got link for a bit of a funny one.

Arsenal really have the feel of a sinking ship. You can sense very little drive in that team aside from the bare minimum to get a paycheck.

Man Utd after Ferguson left never looked like they’d be down forever, with their money they were always going to build a good team eventually.

Arsenal are in danger of becoming an Everton or a West Ham.
