I always think it's ridiculous when the qualifying session is 2/3 of the actual race length.

I am not practising on purpose because I know the track, I'll get my braking markers in on the out lap before the quali lap, and it's a twisty narrow enough course that my lap time will be decided on how many cars I run into anyway. Come the race everyone will be on different strats so hoping for some clean air.

I do like the Nordschleife, but the combo of having to do a 10-minute out lap in qualifying, drive on the GP portion of the track (which I hate), then do another fuel-saving race, makes this a combo I have no real interest in.
There just so happens to be a real life 24h race at the Nürb happening at around the same time today. I've been watching the practice and qualifying streams a bit and I've noticed one particularly important detail: the outlap avoids the entire Nordschleife, and lets you start the lap by using the final corner of the GP circuit as a shortcut.

This one shortcut would save so much time... Seriously, I can't believe they haven't thought of that in a game.

Well Q3 and on hards, still not convinced it's best though. Going to run 1st lap and if anything bad happens I'll pit and fuel.
So first corner bumper cars, but in 5th and soon up to 4th. The Jags a bit thirsty, but 65% after 1st lap and 3rd pits. Decide to just coast as 15 secs to 4th and 5 secs behind leaders. 2nd mucks up and I use him for fuel, but he pits. Go to 6 for most of last lap, but getting caught and just at last corner run out getting 3rd. Not a bad race, but not a car I'd choose for this type of race. Still my brit in his Aston might fair a bit better.
Good luck to everyone else doing this.

I'm back nerds

So I'm a bit inexperienced with actually running FIA races and did a second race last round and cost myself 20-30 points. I went in and did the first entry for the manufacturer series, qualified on pole and won on a no stop hard tyres in the Lexus which really doesn't like the bumps. This gave me 196 points.

My question is, is it worth going back in for more races? Unlike some I actually really enjoy the track but I'm also guessing that if I enter more I'm probably unlikely to improve the points total from the first race.

I'm guessing it's down to a digital track. They have to maintain barriers and cannot replace them 1 lap to the next. Frustrating but not much they can do in this instance.

If it were me I'd take the win and points. Congrats btw.

The way I see it working is, it only counts your result from the last race. So, once you get a win, it's time to quit and celebrate.

No, just call it a night and have some fun with other stuff or races.

And on to my race. After some nasty experiences and rough rides I've had a few races where the only mistakes are my own. So now trying to fix that. I qualify p8 in the Beetle but was door 1. Whatever, I know there are ring specialists ahead so not worried about them. Got a couple familiar faces, 1 good some bad, some unsure.

Race starts and someone is taken out turn 1, but I'm through clean. After the aggressor serves their penalty I'm in p6 and alllll over p5s bumper. And I am coasting. They are driving like the AI and infuriating me. But I just take it easy as I cant find a way by, and any time there is room he takes the middle of the track. I'm trying to be patient. He pulls away after an aggressive driver forces past me in a terrible spot. They promptly bin it directly in front of me but I get through unscathed.

Then I just try amd drive smooth. I'm catching and losing the 2 ahead, but eventually heading to the final lap I'm on the back of the jag ahead. He bobbles and I try to cut past on the entrance to the Nord whem he screws up the chicane horribly. He wasnt expecting it and we bump so I let him back through. He runs off in the next section and I'm through. Thinking I've saved it enough and have the speed to get away. I get up to 1 second heading to the final straight, and he guns it. I wait a bit, unsure of how much fuel I can use, them I turn it to FM1 and keep it flat. He times it perfectly gets inside coming out of the final turn. Nips me at the line by 0.061. Fantastic finish and congrats to him. And finally a solid race there for me.
I'll take p6 and 138 points happily as I was all ready to wreck myself.

Nothing's impossible with a bit of clever coding, surely?

If player on outlap = true, shortcut = open / bypass Nords / don't reset player / reset lap segments or w/e...start time from the line.

Though it's more complicated than that, it shouldn't be impossible...right?

Yeah cheers to that haha. Have to say I was quite shocked when at the end of qualifying I was on pole.

I knew it would be a fuel saving race so I went full gas for a corner or 2 then short shifted in mode 1, there was an Aston I couldn't shake behind me then as far as I could tell a decent gap. Gave the wall a tap entering the nordschleife on lap 2 which gave me a 1.5s penalty so I decided to drive a bit harder and get clear before the penalty line. Wasn't shaking the Aston and then in the section after the karussel they disappeared making a big mistake trying to stay with me.

Ended up with about a 9 second lead before taking my penalty and 2.8 over the Aston driver who had made their way back to second by the start of the last lap. I was maintaining the gap before they quit and then I had 10+ seconds to a corvette which took over second place ended up winning by 15 seconds and getting the fastest lap at the end as well.

If only I was as comfortable on every track as I am on the ring.

Still in two minds as to how to approach the race in the BMW. Highly unlikely that I'll get time to run full practice, so I'll probably hedge my bets and start on RH and fuel save in the lap one traffic. If i can finish lap 1 with 70% fuel than I'll keep going, otherwise I'll pit for RM and top up to go flat out.

Man, I've said it before and I'll say it again. I could race at this place everyday and not get bored.

I did the first and second slots tonight (was thinking of doing all 5 that's how much I love racing here) and will call it a night now.

First Race I got Q7 after a couple of small mistakes cost me at least 5th. Finished in P5 with a pit stop on lap 2 to put the mandatory tyres on.

Race 2. Set a time good enough for pole (for about 2 minutes) until first a GT-R and then a Porsche went 4 and 6 seconds quicker than my time (I had been holding pole by over 2 seconds up to that point).

Got a great start and was able to stay with the pole sitter for the opening 2 laps (the GT-R dropped back). Pitted from P2, came out P3 (GT-R doing a no stopper) and never looked back from there.

Have to say though that either the Porsche is damn good on fuel or the guy was a jet and fuel saving, I had 4 litres left after 2 laps. He had 34 and I don't think he refueled.

Simple solution is to move the pits, who cares about that level of accuracy?

Doing a practice race. I finish my qualifying lap but the session's ended so now I can't change my tyres and the entire thing's a waste. All I can do is quit the game and not race or do a completely pointless stint on mediums. Why bother?

In my slot I Qualified third with a 8:21 with no practice thanks to the slowest out lap of all time to save the tyres. Four seconds off pole, but decent track position. Gained and lost a place on the grand prix circuit on lap 1 as I was taking it easy. Moved up to second at end of lap 1 as the leader pitted. Spun off at Arumberg with a dumb mistake and dropped back to third. End of lap 2 and I'm in the lead as first and second pitted. Last lap and I'm driving very defensively to hold position in the grand prix circuit. Heading into Bergwerk and second place makes a lunge into the left hander and we bang wheels. I kept the line and he dropped a wheel on the grass under braking and spun off leaving me with a six second gap to manage to the finish, which was enough.

TL;DR: don't pit, win valuable prizes

I qualified on hards. It's the race that tells me stuff. On outlap I was fm6, TCS 5

Wasn’t expecting to run the ring as I was out for a boozy dinner tonight. Home and relaxed in time for slot 4 so decided to try my luck.

Door 7 at a track I struggle with in the Aston, which seems ok, but not META.

Nice clear qualifying lap and Q11. Probably better than I expected.

Decided to do a no stop which meant FM2 and short shifting. Got a nudge into turn 2 which unsettled the car and dropped to p14. Then just tried to run consistent, safe laps which worked to my advantage as cars ahead either pitted or binned it.

Into Metzgesfeld for the second time I was up to p7 and then an uneventful lap and a bit before p5 binned it last time through the little carousel. Looked good for p6 until p5 ran out of fuel on the SF straight and I got past him about 50m from the line for p5.

135 points and the round now unexpectedly counts towards my overall points (440).

D20 totally ruined quali, with a 0.5 pen and still got Q3. Pole was fast though so only lost 1 place and I'm 11 secs slower than 1st. Hate this, need a piss but can't go till quali finishes or I might miss tyre change.
Well loads of bumper cars and stupid moves later I get 4th. Terrible race and only came out so well because so many pitted. To say it was a rough race is an understatement, the 2 front runners pitted on 1st lap and came out 2nd and 3rd just in front of me in 5th. Joke of a race I'm really annoyed as this is my favourite circuit.
