I get it about not having a hometown race. There are still the SMP races for me, but with borders locked to and out of Sydney and this vaccine trial just to begin, I'm still staying home.

Nothing beats going to the track, but I'm fine, as long as these tv packages/camera work are good. ARG get my support. V8s need to get their ish together.
It's not just missing a hometown race with Supercars as that's not their fault, it's the calendar as a whole, and as far as ARG go if they're snubbing all but the eastern states they don't deserve support outside of those states imo... not even on TV :grumpy:

Don’t forget the Asian Le Mans Series. While it’s understandable that no teams could get to Australia during the current situation, it doesn’t mean it hurts any less. It was amazing to finally see some prototype cars in real life earlier in the year.
Yeah that's another big exclusion. I didn't get to see them last year but I agree, they are impressive... even if I haven't seen them race in the flesh since Don Panoz brought them here.

Regarding the commentary, Aaron Noonan should have been given the job. Skaife should have been given a pass.

I think Supercars were trying to put new and/or young blood in the box with the Skrillex music crowd. Don't know how this series can be marketed to the youth. It's Camaro & Mustang.

Noonan and Crompo could be a pretty good duo. Think Skaife would be better suited to a pre and post race analyst role like Ingall had before he was booted.

Sounds like Supercars will hold an event at Sandown on the same weekend as the Australian GP if it does not go ahead as scheduled.

Can't help but think that the GP won't be the only disrupted round (again) this year.

Garth Tander possibly joining Supercars telecast team in a role that seems suspiciously like Larko's old role :odd:

''AA has been campaigning for Tander to join the main Supercars TV commentary team because he is an astute observer with credibility and candour. He also explains racing’s complexities simply without alienating knowledgeable fans.

Amid the fan furore over Mark Larkham’s sacking as part of a wholesale replacement of ‘techy’ pit lane reporters, Supercars top management have recognised Tander combines authority with broad appeal.

Entertaining and frank, GT is seen by tech-averse senior Supercars executives as an acceptable compromise despite his embedded expertise
.''

With Lowndes possibly leaving they've gotta get those T8 boys some more air time somehow.... with the added advantage of removing the only die hard Ford guy from the commentary. Well played Supercars /s

Someone needs to tell Supercars it's not all about T8.

Seems to be a reaction to the backlash they got from giving Larko the flick. If it's going to be a similar technical role, think GT is the right person for it. I still don't like the idea of having contracted drivers as part of the telecast team though.

Meanwhile. Supercars are going to trial a push to pass system for Gen 3. You know, because reducing the aero is obviously too difficult...

Contracted drivers in the telecast team has been something I've always disliked as well.

And I've also never been a fan of push to pass.... or this bit below.

''The tender asks that the paddle shift technology be capable of user configurable throttle blip and automatic shift mode.''

Automatic shift mode.... WTF :odd:

Didn't F1 have the option of fully automatic downshifts? Was that in the mid-2000s?
Upshifts as well I think.

Edit: Yep, both. In the video below all upshifts are auto and downshifts are pre-selected so the car will drop as many gears as needed for the next braking area ( can't recall how it was activated though).

YES! The programmable downshifts!👍 Crazy tech back then.

Paddles of stick, the racing has to be good. Look at GT3 and TCR. Those series still have great battles. The automotive world has moved on. The racing world have adapted. Auto, manual, EV, doesn't matter. I prefer good racing overall. Yeah, a ZL1 1LE and a GT350R use stick shift transmissions, but the look and sound of the Gen 3, will be more than enough, if the racing can back them up.

I'm not particularly a fan of the idea of flappy paddles in a touring car. I can stomach it though. It's an inevitable change. However, lets forget this push to pass thing.
As two of our three cars have flappy paddles (both the auto trans cars, even the Outback with CVT has them... fake gears ftw... not ) I'm mildly okay with them too, it's just the auto shift mode that doesn't float my boat... and push to pass.

So they can throw in a Channel 7 “celebrity” wildcard every now and then.

V8s are run by idiots. They just need to cut the wings off and that immediately increases the passing opportunities. No-one watches the v8s for the cornering speeds or the laptimes today otherwise they'd be watching the carrera cup instead. So Supercars lose nothing by actually addressing the root cause of the problem (the aero) which F1 refuses to do.

Holdsworth is rumored to be joining WAU for Bathurst, partnering Mostert.

Absolutely spot on, mate. They are really making it a hell of a lot more complicated than it needs to be.

That's why I don't understand why they are not looking from 2013-2015. I feel it was one of the best times in that decade. I think the only complicated thing, were tyre compounds.

For Holdsworth, good for him to be affiliated with that group.

AGP postponed. I hope the V8's will still be a there in November. It will be between Pukekohe and the finale at the Gold Coast.

Glad to see Sandown back.

Interesting what racing at Albert Park will be like in November.

What do you guys think?

I’m not sure what’s going on with the livery but it’s great to finally have confirmation of the move. Hope it proves to be the right decision.

It's just the car. an eyesore for me. Thought I'd get over it. I'll wait for next year and hope the Gen3 prototype is ready soon.
