2024 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar ChampionshipSports Cars

Wasn't AXR in Le Mans on the grounds of being the reigning IMSA GTP champion? Of course, then the wild card was the 3rd 963. Nevertheless, the article quotes Wayne Taylor saying "global program", my immediate thought was that he's looking to compete in Le Mans.
I wasn't really sure how AXR got in but I guess IMSA champion does make sense.

So WTR/A wants to go to LeMans, Acura says no. Cadillac says they are parting ways with Gnassi. Mike Shank wants to come back to IMSA. Mike Shank announces 2 Acuras for 2025. WTR/A knows the only possible way to get to LeMans is with Cadillac. So I wonder if WTR/A approached Cadillac and said they would be willing to switch over and that is what prompted Cadillac to announce the Gnassi split, or did Cadillac approach WTR/A?

Too lazy to search the articles covering the Caddy/Ganassi split, but I seem to remember the remark that the Ganassi deal was time-limited. I had a quick look at the results of CGR, kinda forgot that they're running Cadillacs since 2021 and sure, they got a few wins but they're weren't exactly a runaway success in the last 4 years. Sure, they got 3rd in the championship once (plus standing there right now) but I guess that the fine folks in Detroit expected more, so when it came to a contract renewal, there weren't many hands up in the air. At least that's how I imagine with my absolutely non-existing C-level experience :)

Hmm, another lmdh car.
Does LMH start to look like a "failling" class to anyone else
I wouldn't call LMH a failing class. Cost is lower with the LMDH cars having P2 chassis underneath, as opposed to the LMH cars. Besides cost, it would be stupid for Hyundai/Genesis to build a car that they couldn't enter the championship in one of their biggest markets. Hypercar is a combined class, which is very far from failing. It's really just two ways to build a competitive hypercar.

I'm sad for the sc63, the cadilac 01 and iron dames, positively surprised by the bmws :D

The weather reminded me of the portimao race last year in the elms where there was also a lot of rain and then standing water which led to many incidents. This make me think if IMSA might choose/require tracks to implement ways to get rid of standing water (similar to what was done at interlagos and spa)

Edit: Also a great moment/fan service: Sheena Monk waving to the visitors at the grand stand after the nsx came to a halt and had to be towed.

I dont know but I would bet the WEC test session at COTA with RLL and WRT together helped them figure out some things about this car.

Apparently the #6 Porsche 963s wiring harness was found to be slightly modified compared to the original homoligation spec. The #40 Acura GTP had a out-of-spec brake duct mod. IMSA knocked both cars down to finishing 10th and 11th in-class, respectively.

As far as I can tell, unless Petit goes horribly wrong for the #7 963, they have the GTP title wrapped up at this point. However, the #01 Cadillac now has a solid chance of taking 2nd in the championship from the #6 car.

I see on the WEC/IMSA testing schedule that WTR racing have a media rollout at the road course in Las Vegas on Nov 19. I assume they will be showing off their new Cadillac's on the weekend F1 returns to Vegas.

The #2 LMP2 and #4 Corvette have crashed in turn 5. Major damage to the LMP2. FCY.
Edit: Looks like the P2 spun and the corvette got collected. Then the P2 hit a wall again while driving back to the pits. Ben Keating was behind the wheel.
Edit: #2 drove to the garage, and the Corvette coming back on a flatbed.

The AO Racing Porsche “Rexy” is having problems upshifting thru turn 12 onto the front stretch, and is free falling through the GT grid.
Edit. Car came to a stop and then got going again but still way off the pace.

Edit: seems like after the most recent yellow, Rexy is back up to speed.

Gradient Acura spins in the esses and sits for a few seconds. FCY. Had contact from what looked like the Pfaff McLaren.

There's a crazy number of cars on the track for the size of the circuit - I reckon if this was replicated in GT7, I'd have lost my Clean Race Bonus after about half a lap 😅

Entertaining race so far, but I doubt I'll be able to stay up to 3am to see the conclusion.
