24 HOUR NURBURGRING COMPLETED!
Crappy photos, just in case anyone cares
All done. 196 damn laps. The only way it didn't get super-duper-monotonous is through the circuit being so damn long. If it only took a couple minutes to do a lap, I probably would have cried. But when a whole lap takes more than six minutes, it keeps you interested. Most of the time.
Also, you might notice that I crossed the line mere seconds after time had elapsed. I didn't hold back on the final lap just so as I didn't have to go around again; proof is in the fact that my fastest lap was my last lap
I kept pushing right until the end
My total time. I lapped the the 2nd place Falken GT-R 8 times. In theory, I could have stopped racing for about an hour and still won.
Part of the prize.
The real prize: Polyphony Digital F1 Car.
The car I used: 2001 Subaru WRX LM Car. I had just won it before I started the endurance and thus had 0.0km on the odometer. By the time I finished the race, it read 4053.1km
That is nuts. Naturally, I rewarded the car with an oil change
In conclusion, the endurance took:
- 3 people; I drove about 180 of the laps and a couple of friends drove when I needed to go out to pick up food and friends.
- 36 hours approximately; What can I say, I need sleep.
- 196 laps, 195 pit stops; I didn't need to pit every lap, but doing so gave me a 20-25 second break every seven minutes, which can only be a good thing.
- 12 Slim Jims, 4 Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburgers from Jack In The Box, 12 root beer floats, 3 Hot Pockets and a grab bag of Doritos.
- 6 movies;
The Godfather,
Scarface,
Aliens,
Heat,
Collateral and
Black Rain. I had a big screen TV in front of me and the game on a small 32" TV to the side.
- 0 blisters, 2 calluses
The longest sitting was the first six hours; I had no problem doing the first 50 laps, but after that, it was extremely sporadic. Two hours here, an hour there, channel-surf break, go get fast food, etc. The first six hours had me intrigued and fascinated. You couldn't pry me away from the screen. But dammit, but about the 14th hour, I was like, "dammit, I have to keep going. If I don't, then the end's just going to get farther and farther away." I'd let my friends have a go, but after seeing them put in a couple of 8 minute laps, I couldn't help but take the controller back
Needless to say, I can think of many, many other things I'd rather do for 24 hours
