Hahahaha, and there's NO way I could've slowed down like,a couple of seconds before I cross finish line for lap 188,I was worried about R34 speed of catching me !! He was going too fast for me to stop, then wait for 24 hours before lap 189,so I just went extra lap, then beat him with 12 second lead on lap 189,whew...barely though :P

HAHA, if he had passed you in the last minutes :ill:!!!!

sorry for spam this messaging, but hahaha,I HAVE to reply back to that ! I would have died after racing that long, then just get passed on last lap :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: THAT'S HOW BAD IT WOULD HAVE BEEN...er....*whack* :banghead:

24 HOUR NURBURGRING COMPLETED!

Crappy photos, just in case anyone cares :P

All done. 196 damn laps. The only way it didn't get super-duper-monotonous is through the circuit being so damn long. If it only took a couple minutes to do a lap, I probably would have cried. But when a whole lap takes more than six minutes, it keeps you interested. Most of the time.

Also, you might notice that I crossed the line mere seconds after time had elapsed. I didn't hold back on the final lap just so as I didn't have to go around again; proof is in the fact that my fastest lap was my last lap :) I kept pushing right until the end :D

fa6df7bf.jpg

My total time. I lapped the the 2nd place Falken GT-R 8 times. In theory, I could have stopped racing for about an hour and still won.

1f85f720.jpg

Part of the prize.

9cf9f7d5.jpg

The real prize: Polyphony Digital F1 Car.

2f1ba60e.jpg

The car I used: 2001 Subaru WRX LM Car. I had just won it before I started the endurance and thus had 0.0km on the odometer. By the time I finished the race, it read 4053.1km

That is nuts. Naturally, I rewarded the car with an oil change :D

In conclusion, the endurance took:

- 3 people; I drove about 180 of the laps and a couple of friends drove when I needed to go out to pick up food and friends.

- 36 hours approximately; What can I say, I need sleep.

- 196 laps, 195 pit stops; I didn't need to pit every lap, but doing so gave me a 20-25 second break every seven minutes, which can only be a good thing.

- 12 Slim Jims, 4 Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburgers from Jack In The Box, 12 root beer floats, 3 Hot Pockets and a grab bag of Doritos.

- 6 movies; The Godfather, Scarface, Aliens, Heat, Collateral and Black Rain. I had a big screen TV in front of me and the game on a small 32" TV to the side.

- 0 blisters, 2 calluses :P

The longest sitting was the first six hours; I had no problem doing the first 50 laps, but after that, it was extremely sporadic. Two hours here, an hour there, channel-surf break, go get fast food, etc. The first six hours had me intrigued and fascinated. You couldn't pry me away from the screen. But dammit, but about the 14th hour, I was like, "dammit, I have to keep going. If I don't, then the end's just going to get farther and farther away." I'd let my friends have a go, but after seeing them put in a couple of 8 minute laps, I couldn't help but take the controller back :(

Needless to say, I can think of many, many other things I'd rather do for 24 hours :)

I wonder when I'll avaible to do this :guilty:

Congradulations moosejaw. 👍 It sounds like you had both the good and the bad part of any endurance race. I'm suprised that you said you lapped the 2nd place car, had an hour in hand, and you still took that many pit stops - the other cars must have had some really bad drivers

I expect that I will be just as crazy and try that myself when I get GT4. Once more, thanks for the writeup.

Wow! Yet another member who has completed the 24hr. enduro @ the 'ring'!
Way to go there moosejaw!👍

Can't wait till the game is released here in the U.S. so I can do my own enduro and see how well I can stack up against your time & the time posted by AE86Driver! :)

Well, with pitting every lap, my average lap time was around 7'15"... I was overtaking the Falken GT-R every 23 or 24 laps. If you do the math, I think that means it was doing 7'35" laps, approximately. After lapping it for the 8th time, that meant I was 8x7mins ahead (56 mins), at least. If I had stood still for an hour, it would have done the 8 laps or so and caught up. I thought I could save myself an hour of playing by doing exactly that, but I really didn't want to take that chance :P

It's not so much that the other cars are bad drivers, they're just slow. I overlapped the C-West Razo Silvia at least 20 times, guaranteed. It would be struggling to hit 270 or so down the back straight and I'd be hitting 315 pretty much straight away and bouncing off the redline for thirty seconds.

I have been reading alot about how people are worried about leaving their PS2 on for long periods of time, and to them I say, what makes the PS2 different from a computer? Computers are left on for years and years at a time (servers) and a PS2 is no different. I, for one, never turn my PS2 off!!!! I only play GT3, so in between races, I save my game, pause it, and switch back to the TV. My PS2 is going on 2 years now, and no adverse side affects. I know I can't prove this in any way, so you'll just have to take my word for it. Just think about it folks, whats the dirrence between a PS2 and a computer? Nothing, it is a computer!!! On that note, I never turn my computer off either, and that's been on for years now too! I only turn that off to install new components, or reboot. So, to those of you who baby your PS2, lighten up, its a machine, that's what it is designed to do. Thanks for your time!

sorry Nunogsr,I baby my computer by protecting it from viruses and cleaning up my hard drives every now and then,so if my PS2 is LIKE a computer,I will treat it the same...babying it ! Ah,by the way...CONGRATULATIONS MOOSJAW :banghead: 👍 :P :D :sly:   :embarrassed:!!! I was actually curious though...why did you have more laps than me? :odd: I had 189 laps, but your fastest lap was waaaay better than mine o.O! This may be a VERY obvious answer and it is probably right in front of my face, but I SERIOUSLY don't see how it's possible . Sorry,I wonder if you could clear things up? CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN MOOSEJAW !!

So what are the Le Mans 24 hours races like? (ie which is better) And are they exclusively LMPs or does some idiot show up in his Hyundai Excel?

don't worry,no "idiot" shows up in a Hyundai..they are all LM or some sort of Race Car,or maybe even Touring Car? *begins to scratch his chin gently* I wonder if one of the opponents I was racing against called me an idiot for coming out there in a "regular" R32..instead of LM edition Skyline.. :dunce:

By "idiot" I meant some guy who shows up in an underpowered car (like the [R] Lister Stomr in GT2 ... couldn't even win the GT350 Championship) which gets itself lapped in the first ten minutes becuse it has the turning circle of an oil tanker ...

What do you think of these choices for the 24hr races:
Nurb 24 hours:Nissan Fairlady Z JGTC
LeMans 24hrs:Audi R8
Both with no engine upgrades or NOS.
Or would this make it to easy or boring to race against the AI???

ohhh,I feel this becoming heated, wouldn't you say? Hohohohoho :embarrassed:! Ah,my dear GTPlanet friend,it would not be in your best interest to underestimate cars with less horsepower. Sometimes that can actually be a good thing :P. From my experiences with beating my friends and my cousin while they were driving the Viper GT-S,Porsche GT3 (or was it 911?),Escudo (yes, even on rally for that matter..all it took was him to spin out once and I won this race ),R34,and RX-7 (FD3S),RX-7 (FC3S) all with my AE86 Shuichi Shigeno Version that had a total of 387 horsepower, compared to their over 450+ for the most part and especially Escudo with over 1000+ horsepower. It all really depends on the driver. And no,just because I beat these cars with an "underpowered" vehicle, doesn't mean my friends and cousin that was driving them, sucked at racing and slammed into everything. I was just better on corners than they were. Sure, they would blow me AWAY on straightaway, but they would also have to break heavily before corners and I could take corners at a faster speed than them. But anyways..please do not underestimate "underpowered" cars. Thank you ^.^

AE86Driver

~Ja ne~

P.S. Ah,and also..I would appreciate it if you didn't call people "idiots" with underpowered cars, entering races that seem almost impossible to win. Because there is ALWAYS a chance..but please do not stretch the lines of reality by putting a Subaru 360 up against a W12  thank you, have a nice day :embarrassed:

I know I am not moosejaw and I know the question is not addressed to me directly, but I would like to answer anyway (no offense moosejaw ;) and congratulations for your 24 Hours Endurance 👍 )

Since he was lapping faster than you were, AE86Driver, it means that his time average per lap was less than yours, hence by the time he got to 189 laps, his total time was less than 24 hours. Hence he had to do more laps in order to reach the 24 hour mark.

Hope this is clear enough, I can't find any other better way to say it :D

The Wizard.

hmmmm...:odd:...I don't EXACTLY understand how that works, but I think I can get a good idea :P. Hahaha,so..since it took me LONGER to run every lap..my time was already building up more than Moosejaw's? Since he ran faster laps..that would mean he would have to run more than me in the end because the laps I ran took longer than the ones he made? Hmmm..I think I understand now..maybe

AE86Driver

~Ja ne~

Ok, let's make an example with actual digits.
Let's say moosejaw's average time per lap was 7 minutes, while yours was 8 minutes (I know these are not the actual numbers, but it's just for illustrative purposes, so bear with me ;) :D)

24 hrs * 60 min = 1440 min

1440 min / 7 min per lap = 205.7 laps (rounding it up, 206 laps)
1440 min / 8 min per lap = 180 laps

So, you see, if you average faster laps, you will have to do more laps in order to reach the 24 hour (or 1440 minute) mark. :sly:

The Wizard.

Yup, that's the reason, AE86driver :)

Because it's time-based and not lap-based, by the time I had completed 189 laps, I had only completed about 23 hours and 10 minutes. I had to keep racing for another 7 laps... 7 laps x 7 minutes = 49 minutes.

Up until half way, I was on schedule to beat 200 laps (I was on lap 101 when it clicked over to 12:00 hours) but because I started to lose interest and handed it to friends who didn't really know the course, my lap times started to get slower.

It would have been nice to hit 200 laps, but I guarantee I'm not doing it again just for that! :P

moosejaw
It would have been nice to hit 200 laps, but I guarantee I'm not doing it again just for that! :P

I bet you wouldn't :D
But I also bet that there will be clubs forming, such as the '200 Laps Club', or higher and higher... In other words, who will be able to obtain the faster average time per lap, will have to do more laps to reach 24 hours (as previously explained). So, there will not only be the 'Regular 24 Hour Racer's Club' but also the 'XXX Laps Club' for the really hardcore, kick @zz GT Players out there/here :D ;)

EDIT: For some unknown reasons when I use double quotes they get replaced with some meaningless unknown code... :indiff:

The Wizard.

I would love to see a 200 lap challenge for the Nurb 24 hour race. Heck when I get GT4 I have given myself the goal for 300 laps (almost 6000Km!!!! ).Not with the F1 car but a JGTC 500 car!!! The key it looks like is pit stops. I you could go 5 laps both on tires and fuel it could be feasible. Have to work out equations to see what laps times to make it work.👍

Any one thought of starting a thread to list all the racers who have completed a 24 hour enduro?

(Im really sorry if this has been posted already)

I'm currently running the 24h race, but I'm still only 4hrs into the event (20 more hours to go!) I'm not planning to run the whole race at one time...just play a few hours at a time and press pause in between.

I'm running the Audi TT DTM car with an average lap time of about 6:30, which is making the race very boring. I lap the whole field once every hour even with pit stops every 3 laps. I think re-fueling is required every 6 laps or so.

cjrciadt
Have to work out equations to see what laps times to make it work.👍

Here is the equation for the average lap time, based on x (the amount of laps you want to do):

Average Lap Time (in minutes) = 1440 minutes / x

Substitute x with the laps you want to do, and you will get the average time that you need in order to pull it off.

Example:

If you want to do 300 laps, you will need:

1440 minutes / 300 laps = 4.8 minutes per lap

which translates into 4 minutes and 48 seconds average. So, to do 300 laps you will need to run an average lap time of 4'48.000, which counting pit stops, sounds pretty impossible, even with an F1 ;) :D

Any one thought of starting a thread to list all the racers who have completed a 24 hour enduro?

It seems like I was the only one liking/suggesting the idea of the '24 Hour Racer Club' thread... :indiff: Until you showed up, of course, and stated the same thing 👍 So now we are in 2 suggesting the idea ;)

I would start the thread myself, but I can't be the founder of the Club (it wouldn't be fair) as I don't have GT4 yet, nor have I completed (one of) the 24 Hour Endurances (kinda hard feat to do, without the game, isn't it? ;)). So, it's up to AE86Driver, or moosejaw, or some other member that managed to complete the race (in A-Spec, of course) to found the club.

Heck, if they don't do it, I will do it myself (if I live long enough to witness the American release of GT4, that is ;) :D)

The Wizard.

There are so many different ways to approach these "24 Hour Endurances"...

Some obviously will attempt to complete as many laps (and therefore distance) as possible and some will choose to try attempt to win it with the least powerful car possible.

Personally, I will be trying the latter of the two. GT Endurances become immense fun when you choose a noticeably slower car than those you are competing against. This forces you to optimise your pit strategy and tires that'll last for an entire tank of fuel and no more...

Completing Endurances this way makes you have to try and drive every lap to the maximum potential of the car as when you happen to drive a 'bad' lap this could eventually mean you'd lose the race.

Doing Enduro's where you see the quickest car fly off, but you struggle to keep as close to it as possible and slowly claw it back with a 'less often' pit strategy, in the end often provides the greatest sense of achievement.

hellnback
There are so many different ways to approach these "24 Hour Endurances"...

I partially agree with what you said... Let me explain: true, if you use a slower vehicle, then you will have to manage everything, from pit stop strategy, to fuel and tire consumption (better if they happen at the same time), to concentration for every lap. But this also apply to the people that will try to run the highest amount of laps in 24 hours. In fact, you will have to stick to the average time (see my previous posts) in order to manage to reach the x amount of laps prefixed (if you make mistakes and have a bad lap time, you will have to run times lower than the average for the following laps, to make up for the time lost). You will also need to manage your pit stops as well, because they will make those particular laps longer, so you will have to make better laps in the 'non-pit-stop' laps, to stick to your average... Like I said, if you aim for a crazy amount of laps (300 laps = 4'48.000 average) you won't have much room for errors... and if you make a few, you might compromise the whole race and not make it to your goal.

In other words, I agree slow cars are challenging, but faster cars can be challenging as well (not as far as competing with the AI, but as far as competing for the highest number of laps possible)... it just depends on what your ultimate goal is. 👍

It would be cool to try more than one combination, but who wants to run on the 'Ring for 48 or 72 hours :indiff: ;)

Also, since you are going to use a slow car, you better be glad the race is not based on the number of laps, but on the number of hours... or else it would take you an eternity ;) :D In other words, it's going to take you 24 hours no matter what vehicle you choose... (but I guess we all knew that to start with :sly: ).

The Wizard.

 very well stated Wizard-san :P! Alright everybody,I hate to sound kinda selfish here, but how about we DO start a "24 Hour A-Spec Club" or something like that? I mean..when I said,"I hate to sound kinda selfish here..",I was actually referring to this next statement...seeing as I didn't notice (which just means I didn't necessarily see anybody post anything about it,before I did) anybody with reports of an A-Spec 24 Hour Endurance race being performed before I posted my thread..if you all would let me,I would like to be the founder/president (I guess you could call me o.O) of the "24 Hour A-Spec Club" :embarrassed:! To just go ahead and tell you right now though,I am not the type of person to go,"Man,**** your club! Our club could kick your club's a**!"! Sorry guys,I'm just not really the agressive type,I like things to be fun :P! So..now it's time for everyone's opinion on this. Who agrees and who disagrees for me being the President of the "24 Hour A-Spec Club". Please send in results now :D! For all the people who wish to be in the club, has to send me a Private Message, telling me so. So nobody just randomly does something that I don't want them to,hahaha..well..if you want more details, send me a Private Message !

I agree with the idea of the Club (heck, I was the first one to suggest it in the first place ;) :sly: - therefore, I should be the president :D j/k) and I agree on AE86Driver to be the president of it, since he was the first one to document a 24 Hour Endurance race here on GTPlanet 👍

I will join the Club as soon as I get my hands on GT4 :D :sly:

EDIT: Maybe you could make me honorary vice-president?! Just a thought :D
