3D Modelling, Post your 3D models! (Cars, Planes, People, Landscapes etc!)

My latest model: a folding sun chair, made in SketchUp.

Where's the eye patch? :dopey;

Doesn't need one, too tough for one. :sly: Seriously though I tried to avoid making the pirate that everyone sees in their head (big beard, eye patch, tricorn hat, parrot on shoulder, etc.) to try and make the character look more interesting.

Part of the main square in my hometown is under construction. The site in question has a long heritage as a place for speeches, demonstrations and democracy. The council is collecting ideas and inputs from the public on what they would want to see on the site.

Here is an idea I'm working on.

The marble howling wolf monument is a reference to a manifestation in 2003 (I think), where a local author held a speech in which by the end she got the crowd of around 4000 people to howl to the sky as a protest to the upcoming war in Iraq. It could also represent the wilderness in northern Sweden (although there's not many wolves around here...).

Facing the square is a rostrum in black polished stone, with the name and coat of arms of the city.
The patch of grass is a subtle reminder for politicians and other people in power to keep in touch with the roots, i.e. the citizens.

The wolf monument is standing on a black and white stone wall. The white part is meant as a space for opinions and discussions, although I have not yet decided how. One idea is to have a projector integrated in the rostrum that will project pictures, videos and text. Another idea is that artists can be hired to decorate the wall with a work of art that comments on some important topic.

The black part of the wall could perhaps have a text describing the history of the site, or the city. I'm also completely fine with having it remain as a polished stone surface.

The wall also serves as a divider between the "stage" and the "backstage", making it useful for theater when you want to get on and off the stage, hiding props, etc.

Next to the wall there is a birch tree, which is a symbol for the city (it burned to the ground in 1888, and when they rebuilt the city they planted birch trees everywhere, as their branches are good for putting out fires)

Around the sides there are stairs inviting people to get up on the stage, but also providing seats.

Behind the wall there is a space that can be used for various things. In the example, there's some benches and a fireplace.

Edit: Update with some basic shapes of the surrounding buildings.

So I haven't posted here in quite a while, but I thought I'd post one of my assignments from last week (attending BCIT and taking digital animation).

head_SSS_2%20(5).jpg

Neither the model or the textures are mine sadly (though I did tweak one texture to create the back scatter colour), the assignment was setting up sub surface scattering to correctly "simulate" the appearance and properties of skin. What that involved was the a diffuse texture, a front scatter texture (the colour of the under layer of skin basically), a back scatter colour (the colour that shines though when light is hitting the object from behind, in the case the ear), two specular textures, and a displacement texture. It was fun using SSS for the first time and actually being able to get a good result.

Quick one from me

Edit: that was a plus rapidement post seeing as I was supposed to be doing French work

Anyway, I made a few updates before going home. I added a steering wheel, some instruments and began to add a few colours. Can't work on it any more until Monday. Also don't have Plugins such as smoother as my school sees downloads as the devils advocate :boggled:

Great, now I find a thread about 3D work, right after I created a new one.
Well, thats my current project. Still work in progress.

Jesus, man! Are you using this for anything or is it just a model?

Irridance mapping primary + photon mapping secondary. Me gusta vray. Me gusta Monte Carlo ray tracing. Can't wait till I build a PC.

Ugh I have to learn to use Solidworks and that program is a total nightmare. Ofcourse it's a professional instrument, but you also need to be a professional to operate it. I have to model a FSAE body in it, so far I've been failing to draw two parallel lines. Dammit. :grumpy:

Hi all. Recently I have been getting into 3D modelling. I took a course in school that got me started. After roughly figuring out how to use the program (google sketchup) I wanted to start making cars. At first I tried and tried again but was unable to model anything correctly, but after hours and hours of practice, I was finally able to create my first car (will get pic later).

Now after almost mastering the program I've started work on creating an Audi R8. Here is what I fave done so far:

Blueprints for reference:

Blueprints set up for modelling:

The hood modelled:

The Front bumber added on:

Now the grill:

Now the headlight:

Now everything (done up to that point) smoothed:

I am working on finishing up the front ATM and will upload pics when done.
You can get these type of results from Google sketch?

FSAE body?! Good luck my friend. Really going to need it of you can't draw two parallel lines :). Wish you the best with you FSAE endeavors. I hope to be doing the same... Or at least making a publication to the SAE from my studies.

With the subdivide and smooth plug in (that's how I got the smoothed version at the end of that post). I wouldn't recommend sketchup anymore though (I can't even remember how to use it). For a free program it's probably best to start out with Blender. Though from what I hear it's got a pretty horrible UI so it takes some getting used to. I use Maya and Zbrush now for the most part. In my classes we sometimes use Softimage, though I don't really like it for anything other than the node editor.

That is so damn good, did you find the schematics for it somewhere?

For the car dimensions I used a blueprint, other parts like head/tail lights, dashboard and the rest of the interior are based on photos. I collected at least a thousand photos from Google, Ebay and Wartburg fan sites. The better the photos I found, the more detailed the parts became at the end. but like always theres some guesswork involved too.

Some of you might recognize this (posted it earlier in the thread):

I'm starting work on the Cobra 427 again as I'm going to have it in my demo reel (I'm in the last term of my course so I actually get to pick what I work on now). If you go back and look back at my old "render", you'll be able to see I actually somewhat know what I'm doing now. Don't mind the low samples on the shadows though, this was just a test render to figure out the materials.

Ladies and Gents! I made this plane for a friend (also made a TRON bike, but that's a different story)

I decided on the name and because it was the night Schuey was in a coma, its the MS7. Some improvements needed I guess, but yeah.

Here's a monster machine I'm working on. The project name is: "All roads lead to Rome. But what if I don't want to go to Rome? No problem, who need roads?"

tracks2.jpg tracks5.jpg

The drivetrain is electric, with one engine in each wheel. Not sure if it's going to be a hybrid or simply nuclear powered.

Edit: Here's an x-ray image.
