3D Modelling, Post your 3D models! (Cars, Planes, People, Landscapes etc!)

The cockpit can now be raised and lowered, so the vehicle can drive over obstacles up to 5,5 meters tall, or drive through water up to 9 meters deep.

I added front and rear "arcs" to make the construction a bit sturdier. On top of those I added solar panels, so it's a bit more friendly (cough, cough) to the environment.

I added powerunits on each side of the cockpit. Those are housing whatever the power source for this thing is.

Finally I changed the colour from red to steel blue.

While on the topic of landscape modelling, I made a random terrain generator in Excel a while ago. It's not the usual approach to landscape modelling I suppose, but it produced some interesting results.

I don't remember exactly how it worked, but I think I started by make a grid of like 5x5 data points (lets call these alpha points) with a random value within a certain range (say 1 to 10, for example). Then I added new data points (let's call those beta points) in between those points and made them have the average value of the surrounding alpha points plus a random addition or subtraction (say -2 to +2).

As a result, in the areas where there was a big difference between the values of the alpha points, the landscape got mountains and valleys, while in the areas where there was a small difference the landscape got more flat.

The result was displayed as a 3D chart (basically a line chart in 3 dimensions), where the height of each node represents the value of its corresponding data point.

Began working with Adobe 3DS Max.

It's... Tricky but I found some great tutorials for beginners

If you want them here's the first. Great channel, and a good series of videos for beginners. Such as myself.

I'll be learning from my media gaming teacher soon so will have a few things made in a while. A long while.

Working on my second track for several PC sims right now.
Since I want to release it too for Assetto Corsa, I try to keep the mesh clean and at the same time complex.
This way it's also possible to add more faces in BTB without huge issues.
Kinda proud of myself:

That looks excellent man. I think that would be an excellent addition to AC!

Autodesk makes the 3DS Max product, not Adobe .... Just sayin'.
Yeah. My teacher pointed that out today

"Adobe...? It's not Adobe."
"Isn't it?"
"No."
"Ah. I thought-"
"You're wrong then." (We actually get along by the way)

Man, I need to get back into 3d modeling...
The last thing I messed with was a minor aerodynamic tweak to my F-58 Hammer fighter design, which was about 6 months ago lol....

Might mess around with it sometime soon if I can get in the mood. Need to do a few other random aerodynamic changes...

Please do, this is brilliant!

You should finish and optimize the model as good as you can, so it can be used in games like Assetto Corsa.
It looks great, would almost be a shame if it will be a static 3D model without interaction possibilities.

How's the polycount?

That sadly would have to be something I do after I'm done my schooling (this is going to be one of my demo reel pieces so I don't have time to go through and optimize it, it would be my first time doing that too so it might take me time that I don't have). Thank you though.

How's the polycount?
A little high.. Everything is a subdivided model right now so it's really unoptimized. Currently sitting at 29396 for low poly, and for the 470368 high poly sub-d mesh.

That's high, but not extremely, definitely a good number even for a game (well, not with the LOD-0, but still).
Everything between 500k and 700k should work with some optimization and different LOD versions.
If you don't have the time now, at least don't throw it away, I bet a modding team would love a model like that.

Mine looks pathetic in comparison to those, but this is my first Design/Technology project :D

It's a small drawer, the blue panel is for a picture of your choice (mine's GT of course :D). My class is full of incompetence however, somebody tried to remove a pin with a soldering iron.

So after my teaser I decided I was going to make a quick race transporter for it. Kinda like a send-off for Sketchup.

Few quick notes on the XR2030.
*Autonomous driving- useful for driving cross-continent to a race
*Runs on a hydrogen-diesel hybrid producing 1,234 bhp, high weight means 149bhp/tonne
*Can run up to 130 MPH on Autobahn in Germany
*GPS tracker- allows for the race transporter to be tracked; reduces chance of theft, also allows for teams to take remote control.
*Rear deck (where Guy-M and Thomas are standing) serves as a pit wall in a race- each assigned to their personal cars.
*Crew goes on plane- allows for less tiresome journey
*Trucks are assigned to each drivers cars- monitor car info, driver info and track info to best determine when to pit. This truck is assigned to car #13, or 'Lucky', and piloted by James Read for Velocitta Motorsports.

Lucky is coming soon.

Just got Autodesk 2013 32-bit on my Craptop and it keeps on crashing

🤬

So yeah, this is how it looks. Nothing special but this was my first encounter with Solidworks and it doesn't require a lot of detail so this is what we have so far :)

Right, I'm having a slight problem.

Basically, I used the student license (as I am a student) to get 3DS Max 2013, I was forced to as my operating system is 32-bit, not 64-bit.

I try loading it and it comes up with the loading screen, and it is all well and good until "Loading plug-in: C:\Program files\Autodesk\3DS Max 2013\stdplugs\HSDS.dlm" when it freezes completely. It won't go past HSDS, and I've had it open for the duration of TRON:Legacy trying.

Before I reinstall it (Which I kinda don't want to do) I want to know if there are any fixes or if it just won't be possible to sort it out. Any help?

Are you inside the "AppData" folder or in the program files?
Try ding a search for "HSDS.dlm" on your computer (Inside your users folder). To my knowledge that is the configuration file and by renaming it you you will force 3DS to generate a new one.

Doing a search of the computer threw up a few results but I did find the one I'm looking for. Thanks a lot! Literally saved my bacon :)
