More progress on my track modelling.

Still WIP obviously. But it's starting to look good despite the lack of shadows from the objects (I don't know why there aren't any, I selected them all to cast shadows but they still don't have shadows. :odd:

Could it be something to do with the material's shader? I had a similar problem in Unity or perhaps you need a certain type of light to cast shadows.

The hill on the inside of the corner in the 2nd render would look much better if you could make it less flat and move the bushes around a bit so it doesn't look as obvious that they are tiled.

Right well I finished the Cobra a while ago, so I guess I can post the finished stuff here. I got a new renderer (GPU renderer, much faster render times) so I had to spend some time figuring it out, but I'm pretty happy with the results I got from it (considering I had to self teach myself to use new shaders and a renderer, something I would have been hopeless at before).

Here are some "beauty shots".

Your renders look so good... I think I need to work more on lighting.

Lighting took me way to long. I'm still not even completely happy with it. I got HDR Light Studio (I think that's what it's called) to try to create my own HDRI for the lighting but couldn't figure it out in time so I just dealt with the best HDRI I could find. Thank you though. :D

I've started relying on Marmoset for my renders because it's so fast but it's not great for rendering cars, is HDR Light Studio fast? Also do you know much about Autodesk Showcase? because that looks pretty good for rendering cars.

So I got a Indigo renderer on a 30 day trial and decided to try it out. I got a McLaren MP4-29 model and did a basic recolour from the grey to orange. Similar to the old McLaren GP racers and Can-Am cars.

It's a good renderer, but the trial limits megapixels (hence the noise) and leaves a watermark (which I photoshopped out) so I'm just wondering anyone have recommendations for similar renderers which are free, or am I better off with Kerkytha (probably wrong spelling)?

The renderer I bought is called Redshift ($500, which is cheep considering how damn fast it is) if you're interested, there is a free trial, but prepare for watermarks. HDR Light studio is pretty fast, but I don't use it for the actual rendering, I use it to make the HDR for lighting. And I know nothing about showcase. :P

Been working on a fighter jet for about a week, I tried mixing ZBrush into my workflow and I had plenty of problems but I learnt a lot. Here's a sexy chrome render. ;)

There's some nice stuff in here! Just read the whole thread. I come from a Mechanical Engineering Background, so I only know solidmodeling. Just started doing cars last week. here's my very first with SolidWorks:

It's rough. Now working on this one to see if I learned anything :)

Looks like I should check out SketchUp, Blender, 3dsMax and renderers. Thanks for all the posts guys!

My football team over at ManagerLeague.com just advanced to the second division in the national league! To celebrate, I made a new stadium for the team.

bkp1 copy2.jpg

I based the stadium on the team logo, which is a white snowflake on blue background and a ball in the middle.

arena-top.jpg

The snow flake chrystal theme is obvious from the top. The open section of the roof forms a star.
arena-front.jpg

Side view. Lots of glass and angles to connect with the chrystal theme.
arena-iso_all.jpg

Isometric view, half X-ray, half textured.

And finally, the stadium as it appear in the game:

I gave myself the task of creating a prop that looked as realistic as possible and I came up with this pocket watch, any feedback to make it look more real would be appreciated. :)

Looks really great! The only thing I can think of is that the chain looks stiff, as if it was welded together. You should try to make it "fall" to the ground :)

For the wind tunnel? Autodesk Flow Design (used to be called Project Falcon).
Ahhh yes. Project Falcon has been a bit of a unicorn for me. Was wondering why it didn't seem to exist. Damn name changes...

Thanks anyway!

Just discovered the website p3d.in, you can upload 3d models that people can interact with. Certain websites and blogs let you embed the model viewer.

If you mean painting as in painting onto your mesh in real-time whenever I do it I use either Mudbox (personal favourite) or ZBrush, I think it can be done in Blender.

Looks nice, I'm guessing your making a living room or something, would be cool if you could see the Cobra parked up outside. I've been working on a scene as well for Unreal Engine 4 and the aim is to make it using a single 32 bit texture which will probably be 512x1024/256x512

Quite a broad question, download something like Blender, Sketchup, Modo, 3ds Max or Maya and just spend a bit of time experimenting with the tools and watching beginner tutorials on youtube.
If you want to create more high-poly objects in a way similar to clay sculpting try ZBrush, Mudbox or Sculptris.
