3D Modelling, Post your 3D models! (Cars, Planes, People, Landscapes etc!)

Sorry a bit off topic. What "frames per second" do most 3d animation studios use in their films? I know 24fps is mostly used for 2d but what about 3d?

I've only just noticed this thread, but modelling really intrigues me and some of these designs are incredible! I work with SolidWorks (used to be Pro/Engineer at old workplace) but wouldn't advise using it for sleek aesthetic designs. I have a copy of 3DSMax as well, but yet to even install it for fear of becoming divorced!

I think it's usually 24 fps for 3d stuff as well, this is from Animating a Blockbuster: How Pixar Built Toy Story 3.

"...The average frame (a movie has 24 frames per second) takes about seven hours to render, although some can take nearly 39 hours of computing time. The Pixar building houses two massive render farms, each of which contains hundreds of servers running 24 hours a day."

Thank you. So do you think they also use 24fps for motion capture? I thought they're doing up to 60fps.

I don't know much about mo-cap but if they are only making a 24 fps animation then it doesn't matter how many more frames they are capturing, mo-cap data usually requires a bit of cleaning up by an animator so I don't know if they would rather work at a lower fps.

Tried my hand at Blender for the first time today making a cup:

I used to the force to make this one float. :P
cup 4.png

I think it turned out pretty nicely.

I couldn't help but notice the shading on the bottom of the cup in the 3rd render which is probably caused by some high valence vertices, I like the little lip on the top of the cup.

The lip came out on accident. Don't know what I did though.

I love the rally version and the little details like the wiped mud on the windscreen and the motion blurred wheels, how did you create the clouds of mud and dust? All you need to do is stick a Subaru badge on there and a DIRT logo and you've got promo work for the next DIRT game. :)

The dust and wheel motion blur was added in post, but everything else is from the render.

Should have a quick few grey renders of the MP4-4 mid week

Nice Subaru! Now we just need 3D printers that can do engine blocks...
I got one of those too as of about 4 weeks ago :P

The MP4-4 will be my first print. Been test printing random parts to get it calibrated and working as I'd like.

Designed a blocky futuristic speed record plane (you'll recognise the Motorsport reference here...)

Basically, my school doesn't like rendered so I decided to give an illusion of low speed fast flight in Photoshop.

The hoof like boots seem a bit weird and out of place for a humanoid. Mesh is nice and clean, maybe make the sleeves hang a bit more, they seem a bit stiff and perfectly cylindrical right now. This just a character for renders?

I'll pose it a bit before rendering, I was looking at Ninja style footwear and I kept seeing something like that but the proportions look off a little bit and good point on the sleeves.
