Well this is a tuner club so i figure drivers can exploit the tuning options.

Why not just make the rules, with the only mods allowed are Full Suspension, LSD, Torque Sensing Differential, Transmission. Make for an interesting race in my mind.

It does add another dimension to it since this isn't a spec series. Given the nature of this club I think it's right to let everyone chose their own tuning direction.

Were only talking about adding a few mods to get to 450 anyway. I really cant police whether people install mods so thats why i think it should be open.

had fun last night battling for last place every race :) The battle for last was fought just as viciously as any other place haha

Was the game running in slow motion for anyone else or just me? I was fast during free run @ London, consistently pulling times under 1 min, but when the race started, I couldn't get under 1'03 and was almost down 4 or 5 seconds after the first lap. I ended up catching the leaders but based on chat, they were blowing through tires.

Madrid was even worse from the start of free run. The game just seemed to lag really hard and once the race started, with every turn I was losing 2 seconds and ultimately missed getting lapped by a couple feet. I bailed during cote d'azur free run for same reasons.

Anyone know offhand what sort of bandwidth a race w/16 clients requires? I haven't fully investigated how the ps3 connects to the psn as I just got it, but my router logs are showing both ~ 35 KB/sec up and down during those races which, in 2011, seems like a very small amount for that many people on one track.

I use QoS @ home and give all of MY devices priority but thought maybe I had not added a rule for the ps3, which would explain the low throughput. But that doesn't seem to be the case. I've never really experienced online play like that before.

I apologize for being real aggressive the last lap of London. I held a 2.5 second lead at one point and watched it dwindle 0.5 seconds per lap as my front tires got chewed up. I had the speed to get along side the leader before the last turn but I pushed wide while braking and made contact.

Grip was slowing me down on the rest of the tracks. I was quick enough to qualify about 3rd on the start of each race but despite running clean lines and never once hitting the walls I fell back to 10th almost every time. Everyone in front of me had a FR drivetrain or that Euro-R Honda so I think i did the best I could with the car. Sure I could've switched things up, but I was enjoying being a road block for everyone. I was literally cooking the tires through turns while people were honking at me from behind.

I just blame the FF drive train. The car stopped performing as soon as 1 tick was gone off the front tires...and that only took maybe 1 and 1/2 laps. I was literally 10 seconds slower at Madrid and I clocked myself running over 1 second slower each lap at Monaco (even with the draft). I had the grip to race at Rome for about 3 laps but after that I started misjudging brake zones and running wider than intended.

I'm surprised the car behaved so poorly. The FF hatchbacks were much more fun to drive. I messed with just about every part of the suspension and LSD to get better tire wear but nothing seemed to work.

I had real stiff rear sway bar (car still pushed)
I tried massive front camber (only made braking worse and didn't help corner speeds)
I increased spring rates and dampers (didn't notice much)
I tried high and low LSD settings (lower seemed to help prevent cooking the outside front tire a little)
I also tried the ride height trick.

It's too bad, because the car's engine is pretty decent. I had tons of straight line speed, enough to prevent cars from draft passing. I thought I'd do better at Rome but it turns out exit speed is more important than straight line speed and when you've cooked your tires just trying to follow someone into a turn, you've got nothing left to power yourself out of the turn.

So anyway, got feedback on the theme? Should we just allow AWD sedans next time to get in some of the Audis?

esh
I've never really experienced online play like that before.

I experienced what you described for the first half of our race at Madrid and for all of the race at Monaco. This isn't the first time I have experienced this in an online GT5 race. In the Flyin' Miata Super Cup series that I participate in I had a similar experience during two races early this season. It's so frustrating!

what exactly happens? Do you lose speed or grip?

Last night, all the cars on the track behaved properly. Usually when there is lag you see cars jumping around, left to right, fore and aft.

I had no grip all night during the races (things were obviously fine in free run because I was putting down lap times faster than 3/4rds of the room.

It literally was like operating at 80% speed, both in the speed of car and lap times and with the HUD display and game performance itself. Like the downshift indicator was blinking 20% slower than normal. Timescale was off so turns seemed to take longer.

And yes, warping all over the place is the normal lag I've witnessed. Not slow motion to where I was so affected and not other racers that allowed them to gain seconds at every turn.

That's what is so frustrating about the whole situation. It doesn't appear that anything is wrong besides the fact that your laps times are seconds slower than they should be.

Take for instance what I experienced at Madrid last night. I set a lap time in free run that, at the time, was good enough to put me at the top of the time sheet by 1.2 seconds, I believe it was 1:36.xxx. So I started the race on pole and right off the line the first five or six cars are faster and barge past me. In the first carousel turn Nic drove, I mean drove, by me on the outside like I was standing still. When he passed me I looked down to see how fast I was going and the speedo read 65 mph. All of you know that there is no way using last night’s restrictions that someone can pass another car on the outside (like they’re standing still) of either of Madrid’s carousels while the inside car is going 65 mph.

Now recalling that I qualified at a 1:36.xxx I found it very odd that all I could muster for lap times during the race were 1:42s despite the fact that I hadn’t changed anything. I was driving the track in the same manner as before. My speedometer was showing the same trap and corner speeds as before. My braking points were the same as before. Everything appeared to be the same except that other cars seemed to be faster and my lap times were now roughly six seconds slower.

Then, on the start of Lap 6, something changed and over the next three laps I was able to put down consecutive 1:38s. I even managed to catch leadbedr and twichie, who were six seconds ahead of me, in the last chicane. The only thing I noticed that changed at the start of Lap 6 was a person left the room (Gilgamesh???). I don’t know if that had anything to do with what I had been experiencing but the “phantom” lag returned at Monaco. So WTF?

I noticed the performance lag too, and have several times. I don't know what it is. I had a blast battling dsgerbc, it seemed like every race (or I guess both races I was a part of before everyone bailed) had us constantly fighting for position. Some of the most exciting online racing I have done.

EDIT: Also just picked up a new Alfa from the UCD. I think it will make an exciting entrant in Hot Hatch night ;)

Hmm, I'm not sure if i was experiencing that or just plain grip issues. On the carousel before the final chicane I could barely maintain 45mph. I was hugging the inside and if I applied any more throttle the car would just veer wide. i had throttle understeer and brake understeer which basically meant I had to come to a complete stop for the hairpins.

Do you have replays from London and Madrid and if so would you mind posting them?

I think I do. Do you want a youtube video or the actual replay file? If youtube, let me know what laps I should check/record. I don't know when I'll be able to watch them since I'm pretty busy this weekend plus I need to do some recon on cars for Sunday night.

I was using a FF at Madrid and had to go through the the second carousel (the same one to which you are referring) at roughly 45 mph or I would push wide. The first carousel is the one you could go through at 65ish mph while slowing to 55ish on exit to keep to the left and line it up for the sharp right-hander.

Were you able to replicate your lap times from the free run sessions?

Just the files. That way I can see everyone's lap time to compare to mine.

I recall being 2-3 seconds off pace during free run. I was placed in the middle of the grid. I'm not 100% sure but I think my fastest lap with drafting was around 1:45 during the race. I hit the walls a few times trying to keep up, but if the leaders were running 1:35s I should have at least been able to hit a 1:40 on one of my clean laps.

I listen to the tires more than I watch the speedometer so I can't really tell you where i was losing speed. I know I was entering turns slower than any other car I've ever driven just to prevent the tires from overheating. I was cooking the outside drive wheel on those carousels at very slow speeds. For the next race i lowered the LSD thinking that it was perhaps causing issues. it helped a little bit for Rome but not enough for me to keep up with the leaders for more than 2 laps.

Rear tires were blue the entire time. That kind of bugs me. The car's default spring rates were almost even. 4.2 and 4.0 or something. That usually signifies a car that has decent weight distribution. I should have been fine mid-corner but whether I was braking, coasting, or applying minimal throttle the car would never stop understeering.

What I meant to ask was were you able to replicate your lap times from free run in the race? Were your lap times consistent between both sessions?

No. I was slower during the race and the tires wore down much faster....possibly because I was trying to keep up with the FR cars and may have cooked the tires a little more than during practice.

i was aggressively following you in Monaco at the last 2-3 laps and i was noticing your understeering woes. My car was faster in the corners but couldnt catch up with you in the straights, there were lots of opportunities but i did not took it clean hence the bumps... sori! :nervous:
then somebody overtook me i think the red Mazda, we took turns trying to overtake your position. These Bimmers up front were in a different league..... :)

Here are some pics of last night action. Love seeing all these sedans!
