i have used 3 cars yesterday, a strange toyota (aristo maybe) on london, accord on madrid and monaco, and that piece of junk called holden commodore on rome. that toyota was surprisingly good, some oversteer but not too much, the accord is a good car, sounds like a beast but in monaco the understeer was terrible and my tires last no more than four laps. on madrid i was very careful with the tires, always tryin to not spin out, it was really a realistic race from that side, like the moder f1, you have to look after your tires if you want to win a race. i think that we should stay with 8 - 10 laps races btw. commodore is really one of the worst car ever! its so slow and terrible in every possible way that i cant understand why the top gear guys was so excited about it, maybe the game doesent do justice to the car

You guys are running sport softs, right? I am 90% sure thats what I had, but I was literally barely scratching the surface by the end of 8 laps. Then again I was in the back of the pack every race, so maybe I need to learn to get more out of my tires...

Detuning most cars doesnt help. I detuned my Supra for Tsukuba for 90s JDM night and it had no straight line speed. But my RUF BTR can be quick at Rome and that has a lot of power reduction....so i guess it depends on the car.

AOK, your commodor was quick enough to overtake me at the end of Rome. I thought you had me until you started to get sloppy a few turns before the end. I didnt have much tire left to challenge otherwise.

I never have trouble with tires except maybe on muscle car night. Last night was the first time i chose a car that wasnt good on tires.

BTW, i also enjoy the slightly longer races. Ive been trying to make them about 15 minutes in length. We spend so much time in free run that it seems silly not to run longer races. They also give drivers an opportunity to come back from the occasional turn 1 accident...and it puts a little strategy on tire conservation.

Im all for longer races. It gives rise to more epic battles for position, and could make pitting a necessary consideration.

Edit: I guess I just said the same thing as chuyler. Anyways, I would be up for 10-15 laps per race

Not with lag issues that people get. It really sucks either suffering for 15 laps, or waiting for the next race.

When I host I do 8-10 laps. Anymore and people start to complain.
I would like to do some 20 lap races, but with this group I would probably be at least lap down by the finish.

I don't mind endurance races, I love a good 6-8 lap sprint. It really separates the pack into small dog packs going hard. I would do some 20 lappers, but I don't want too do 20 laps every single race. One or two a night wouldn't bother me a bit though.

I agree. I like some quick heats and some longer races as well. I think going for 5-8 minute heats and 15-20 min longer races is a good strategy.

shorter free run times, maybe 5 mins max of free run between races, just an opinion

edit: love the idea of 15 to 20 lappers and also 6-8 heat,

5 minutes isn't anywhere near enough time to make setup changes between tracks and to get a few hot laps in for qualifying. Need at least 6 minutes to get 1 good lap down (out lap, 2 hot laps), and that's without any tuning.

ugh, i wish they started the qualifying as a hot lap starting at the start/finish line. I swear the designers of this game went to extreme measures to make things take longer than necessary at every point in this game. "hey, we have a horrible menu system that takes 10 minutes to do anything, so why don't we add even more frustration by making the first lap of qualifying not count? "

i always thought more than 5 minutes was too much for "qualifying".

i wanna race.

your cars should be tuned already. at most you may need slight changes, or transmission changes, which you can figure out in one lap. so then, it is up to you to decide weather to finish a qualifying lap or go tune and not qualify.

Not qualifying makes it nearly impossible to do anything useful in the race. I think it's just a case of me taking it a lot more seriously than most if you guys. I'll still race and won't complain if we don't get as much practice time. I just get a lot of enjoyment out of tuning and running hot laps.

For qualifying, i usually shoot for a 15-20 minute initial free run for tuning at the beginning of the night. After that my goal is to runa recon lap, exit to adjust the tranny, then re-enter and put down a qualifying lap. So that requires a timeframe of at least 4 laps.

I think 10-15 minute races are the sweet spot. I dont want to bore people who fall behind. We've done longer races in the past but there isnt much action late in the race unless someone makes a mistake. It depends on the theme thou. We could have run 50 laps at deep forest on hatchback night because the competition was very close.

I still have fun starting at the back when the grid is messed up. I know it is supposed to save your position but whenver i drop to the pits to check cars it puts me at the back. However, even with a perfect race in a fast car i never catxh the leaders when i start very far back.

I like to run multiple cars per night, and don't have time to tune them beforehand, so 5 minutes between races for me is nowhere near enough.

Agreed.

I usually build a baseline setup on Tsukuba beforehand and change my spring rates/dampers/ride height/ballast-power balance and gearing depending on the characteristics of whatever track we run. Takes a few laps to get it right and since it doesn't always keep your lap time after exiting, you really only get one lap to qualify.

If you think about it this way, in F1 they run a 1 hour quali session. Races usually take about an hour and a half. I'd guess our races usually take somewhere between 15 and 20 minutes depending on the track (10 for short tracks). If you take this into account a 10ish minute setup/quali session makes sense for our races.

Just checked the OP and the PP for tonight states 450. I thought we were changing to 400. Can you clarify? I'm just shortlisting my cars at the moment to get ready to tune.

I need clarification on this too please. I was thinking it was 400pp & comfort softs for the lightweight vintage, but now I can't find the post I thought this was mentioned in the thread. I see that it says comfort softs, but it says 450pp.

I take back what I said before, for our races we need at least 10 mins between races if car change is needed + tune + qualifyng time,

on tonite, any make and model , pre '75, lightweights, 450pp, cs tires. right?

i think that we can stay whit the 450pp, i find a lot of pre 75 that can be used. my giulia will be on track for sure:sly:

wow Im practicing with my 65 giulia on autumn ring mini, and let me tell you the cs tires are overkill, we should go up to sports

Lol, people said we didn't want sport tires, now they're regretting it. XD

Also, I think Osprey is in trouble because they don't make a truck or MX-5 that fits the rules tonight.

EDIT: I'll be brave... Anyone want too compare times? I got a 47.6 in My Honda (yes a 1970 honda) at Autumn Mini. What have you all been getting?
