I will open the room before 945. I might be on earlier but i need to play with a few more cars before i open the room.

Great Racing tonight, ended a little prematurely, but ah well. AOK, and Nic, had it covered. But the Bus put it on em at Autumn Ring. :D

That was some good racing once I was able to finally connect and stay connected. I was having all kinds of weird issues for the first 2 tracks but I think I may have sorted it out. I didn't experience any of the lag on Sarthe or any track thereafter like I had previously. The ps3 either wasn't getting enough bandwidth based on QoS rules or I can't have more than one device on the network streaming while racing.

chuyler1, I saw your message after Sarthe but didn't reply quickly. I was so concentrating on making the upcoming corner and keeping rpm's at redline that when I looked up my immediate reaction was to pass, not thinking about the draft. That little 2000GT should have been shredded.

I've never really raced on CS so that was an experience, like walking a tightrope. Sarthe was fun as hell.

Tons of fun for me. I don't think I necessarily picked quick cars, and I didn't tune any of them aside from slapping on parts and maybe tweaking the transmission. Still though, it was tons of fun battling grip on Autumn Ring and trying to draft at le Sarthe.

I think this theme works best on the shorter tracks though. Even Deep Forest was a little too straight. There can be a big difference in power output between these vehicles but the right mix of turns and straights can balance them out. Totally didn't expect the Samba Bus to dominate Autumn Ring.

My mini-recap...

Autumn Ring - I had to exit to the pits to double check vehicles. Every time I do this, I lose my qualifying position so I started toward the back. First few turns I didn't quite have a feel for the car, then I got a 4 second penalty. I fought my way back the rest of the race but it took several laps to pass some cars. I could've raced this track for 30 laps I was having so much fun. My Lancer was prone to oversteer so I was using partial throttle through most of the track. With some tuning I may have been able to run WOT but it was a fun challenge.

Deep Forest - I think I stuck with the Lancer again. I qualified 3rd or 4th and finished 3rd or 4th. My car wasn't quick enough to keep up with anyone in front of me. BTK could stay on my bumper with the draft and probably could have gotten around me in a few places but I kept my lines clean and mistake free. Diablo was running similar lap times but couldn't close the gap.

le Sarthe - First race I used the Lancer and it was painfully slow. I didn't judge the transmission right so the only cars I passed were ones in the ditch. Second race I switched to the Cosmo. I did better with the transmission but about half-way up the straight I again ran out of gear. After I lost the draft I was losing speed slowly as my gearing was too tall without the draft. Esh came up behind me and it looked like was going to draft so I lined my car up for a bump...that didn't go over so well. He got loose and spun out. I waited at the next turn for him (which felt like an eternity) and we raced wheel to wheel to the finish.

Laguna Seca - If I had run clean laps, I probably could have kept up with the leaders but I struggle with consistency at this track. I went wide in turn 1 after misjudging the draft brake zone and never recovered. However I had a great 3way battle for the remainder of the race to keep my position.

Half the guys in the room use a DS3...and they were quicker than me most of the night.

Some tips for DS3 drivers...
1) Stop using X and O for gas and brake
* The right joystick works, forward for gas, backward for brake
* The left and right paddles work too

2) Find a mapping that will allow you to shift manually
* shift early to avoid wheelslip
* shift at the appropriate time to maximize acceleration in your car

Man, I'm mad I missed it. I was really looking forward to to 'classic night.' Maybe we can do it again in the future sometime.

cs + no tcs + ds3 + some skills = awesomeness! too bad i have properly tuned only the mazda, on le mans i wanted a french car but i do not have time to tune the trasmission so in the straight it was a disaster. on laguna i picked a lotus europa, good car, but very bad brakes.

My 2000GT was about 110KG over weight. Did not feel like doing a weight reduction on the car. ESH, did you have to do weight 3 on that car to get it under 1000KG? My mistake for thinking that 1000KG was the minimum, not the max.

By the time I rejoined, I could only go with the Honda S800 and that car was underpowered and oversteers on entry. I'll have to plan better and have the right car for the next comfort soft event.

The matte pink GNX should make an appearance tonight.

Sorry, I forgot to post the room #. You can get to the room if you are on my friend list. Instructions are in the first post.

I did some laps in the Europa at DFR. It was one of the quicker cars I had before I started modding them...but you're right, the brakes are atrocious. I had tons of trouble on that last turn of DFR.

I actually really enjoyed driving these cars moreso before I modded them. Specifically adding the clutch, flywheel, and transmission really took away from the classic feel of the cars...but I think they are necessary to keep up with everyone else. I wish I could run a shuffle night for only vintage cars, now that would be fun.

Every car I picked had oversteer. I tried a little ride height adjustments but I didn't want to touch camber. Actually, if anyone wishes to share what they thought was a fast tune, I'd love to try it out so I can have a goal to shoot for in a different car.

Yeah I think I did have to go to stage 3. It ends up at 998kg. I really wanted to use the Mercedes SL300 '54 (I use in-car view most of the time) but didn't think I could shed 295kg.

so... what defines a modern muscle car?

does it have to me FR? could it be MR? (ford gt)

vipers and corvettes?

or are we talking more like the camaro and new charger?

don't think you can get the ford gt down to 500pp

or the C6 Z06 ZR1, propably not the regular C6 Z06 either. C5, C4 you can along with the crappier vipers.

Requirements
1980-present day
USA Manufacturer
1400kg Minimum weight

Typical modern muscle cars
Dodge Challenger
Chevy Camaro ('88 concept, '90, '97, and '10)
Ford Mustang
Ford Taurus SHO
Pontiac GTO '04
Buick GNX
Chrysler 300C (shares platform with Dodge Charger which isn't in game)

What consider questionable but acceptable
Dodge Viper
Chevy Corvette
Ford GT

What are not allowed under any circumstances
Infinity
Lexus
AEM tuners (in fact any tuner car)
Despite appearing as US vehicles, they are not.

The reason I mentioned the Vette and Viper as questionable is because most versions in the game could be classified as American super cars and not muscle cars. However given that they meet the power and weight restrictions I will allow them. Just don't feel like your driving skills are elite if you negotiate the bus stop at Daytona at twice the speed.

In making this list, it is actually kind of sad how few modern American cars are in the game. No modern Dodge Charger but they include the 300C? Seriously? They need the Magnum too for wagon night. Apparently they also forgot the Ford Thunderbird ever existed. And the 90's Chevy Impala SS would've been nice...and perhaps a Crown Vic Interceptor and Mercury Marauder.

Ford Taurus SHO a muscle car? shudder. I know its slim pickings but FF muscle car is just wrong.

edit: as far as vettes, vipers and ford gts. If you really want to get technical they're Grand Touring cars, not muscle cars - so I think you have a point but again, slim pickings. I'll have a vette race ready but I'll prep one of the other cars from the 'typical' list as well.

I will use X and Square to gas and brake from now till the end of time. If I had a wheel, I may start taking the races too seriously :D It is just a game afterall.

I know, I doubt anyone will run it, but if they didn't get enough of FF on Sedan and Hatchback night they can try again.

Video from Autumn Ring last night. I tried to capture as much action as possible. I love this track because you have to prepare for a pass several turns in advance or wait for the driver in front to make a mistake. The end of the video shows everyone's fastest lap times. I'm not sure I could have run at the front. I was finding a little time here and there throughout the race but I don't see how I could've gotten another second or two out of my car without some tuning changes. Lap 2 you can see how tail happy my car was. It broke loose and when I tried to correct, it snapped back in place and I ended up cutting the corner. It took the rest of the race to make back that penalty.

The bus was extremely fast last night. If we had gone up too 450 I think I could have gotten a 44 in, at Autumn Mini. If anyone has a Taurus SHO they don't want, they can gladly send it my way. I've been wanting to tinker with one. I might bring out my secret vette, but if it's too fast I'll stick to camaro

I think I may build up a Mustang. I haven't driven one yet. My Challenger was fun last time but its a heavy beast and burns through tires.

ok just checking.

i have a few cars... i have a couple vipers, camaros of varying degrees, a cobraR, and a shelby series1.

i suppose the shelby series1 wouldnt really work either.... but i could give it a try. i doubt i will be winning with it.
edit: my shelby series1 is way underweight... so not an option...

fyi, my ford gt 06 at 500pp only has 322hp, but 491trq.... i doubt it would be a contender. lol.
