I don't think I have any chance of catching granpa1952. I'm currently at 1.34.175 and my objective is to get into the 1.33.xxx. I think I can achieve that.

Struggling with the last two rounds. I did bronzes 8-4 but not satisfied with it. I'm going to break down and and pull my wheel out toning after the OKC vs. Heat game. I'm running out of time. Does anyone have any tips? I'm losing speed everywhere on 8-5.

I just set my car up to what I thought might be a good place for a person struggling to get gold to start. I set the trans. to auto and TCS to 5 steering assist to strong and ABS at 1 which is default. I also us the driving line. Just by braking at the red and then accelerating smoothly I was able to run a 1:34.664.
I use the top time ghost and try to follow his lines until he is out of sight ;) He is usually a couple of car lenghts ahead by the first corner so it is not a distraction but a guide. Partial throttle in the chicanes and when accelerating is key.

I'll give it a shot tonight thanks much :-)

I see you smacked down my lap with a better one. 1.32.893. Nice one!
I finally hit the last 2 corners pretty good. I was shocked to improve that much in one attempt as my last improvements have come .005 at a time.
I had one lap where I was right on the ghost mid way through the first chicane. I chocked big time;). I have not been even close at that point before or since. I will keep at it to try and find it again. 1:32.5 is my next goal. :D

In the original GTA, the TT Demo in 2009, I tried following TimeAttack's ghost. If you're close to it, it distracts me ... if it's too far away, it depresses me, so I don't use one. I do watch the replays though, and learn a lot from them. I'm shootin' for 32.5 also, and think it's just a few more laps away. I've had some really good runs, 32.5 possibly, and blow it on the next to the last turn. Still crossed in the low 33's. I just can't seem to string out one good run. One will come up, eventually.

Usually I will use the ghost early on to see where I am losing time. Then I leave it loaded but just turn it off once I find the lines, brake points, etc.
Back to small improvements, 1:32.839 gets me under 4,000 in the world rankings. Still improving at the tail end of the lap.
My sector times for this one are;
34.677
31.094
27.068
When I view the fastest time replay I see sectors of;
33.740
30.465
26.540
I can see where I need to do the most work.;)

I seem to have hit the proverbial brick wall with a 33.361 - not managed to improve now for 2 days! It's that turn 2/3/4 combination that gets me. Interesting point on sector times, pity they don't show when you are on a lap with +/- delta times like in the game time trials.

I managed to post a 1.33.940. I will try to take some more time off in the last days remaining. I enjoy the challenge, the track and the car.

I've been stuck. Can't seem to string one out. A friend suggested trying Active Steering on Strong, so I did. He said the top guy had it that way. First lap I ran was a 33.1, next was a 33.3 and a 33.2. But then it just fell apart and I haven't been able to get it back. I'm loosing 1.1 sec in the first sector. I've tried to get that down maybe a half second, but can't seem to get them all right, and when I do, I mess up the turn after the chicanes.

I think I'm stuck at 1.32.998. I hadn't played GT5 since the last GTA. Probably need to practice more for the next one. I didn't know this one was running until a month into it. Didn't know there was going to be another one. I ran in the TT Demo in 2009 and the GTA last year, where I made the first cut. In every one of them, I found out after they had been running a month. I'll have to watch more closely, and practice in the interim, with sports hard tires:)

My best lap is 1.33.935. I have come with in 3 hundreds, but can't best my best. My reflex isn't what it used to be.

That's it for me now, 3 days driving hundreds of laps for a 0.001 improvement to 1:33.360! Have to get a wheel/pedals for the next one I think. Congrats to all the other oldies, especially grampa1951 & midiman007. Thoroughly enjoyable few weeks - now back to the seasonals I guess although assume will still be able to tackle the academy tests off line.

As far as I'm concerned you did very well at the Academy! You're placement percentage wise, overall, should show to be very respectable.

I ended up with 1.33.796 which is respectable but almost a second slower than granpa1951. Congratulations on being the fastest oldie on my friends list. There was no way I could match his time.

Just want to say all you old timers were a real inspiration. At only 41 I do not qualify as an oldie but am sure past my prime. Seeing Grampa1951 ahead of me in the challenges helped me push for better times. In the end I got there in 8-5 but 1.4 seconds behind the leaders seems like an eternity.

Now that GTA is over (for me at least) I would love to send out some friend requests and would be happy to accept any requests (jobyone71) from any one who feels over the hill:)

I especially love just hopping in a car going to the ring, setting the time progression to 24, damage and with weather on and trying to lap for 1 hour without damaging the car. It is fun to watch the sun set, drive through the night, and see it rise again. Not going for the fastest time just having fun. If you like the sound of that send me a friend request. And lets all do better next year:)

I doubt if I would have pushed to achieve the times I did, had it not been for this thread and the friends I have added through it. Midiman and I had a even match up in 8-5 and I expected him to best me in the long run. Sometimes we have other priorities over video games though. :D
Still accepting friend requests from any age group. Don't expect to be racing much though.

I was hoping to do just that ... but not this time. I plan to change my strategy ... I'm going to practice for the next one:)

Strange to realised that I just turned 70 (1942) and racing in Gold and best results than my younger friends...

Really enjoyed this last session and a chance to compete in a large international scale event.

Breaks the isolation and keep my reflexes at max potential
Having a ball.
