Haven't tried out GT4 yet so i don't know what the difficulty is like, though i hear its easier thean GT3, thank heavens, but i share your view, i find it a nightmare trying to gold licenses, i only really try if the prize car is very good and can't be found anywhere else. With a 1000 car garage limit, ill be keen on getting every car in the game eventually, ill get to that!

What car do you have to use on S-16, CFM? And what's the gold time on the 'Ring?

It's a black '91 Mecedes190E DTM Touring car. It's one of the best handling cars so far...very good tires on it, well balanced, downforce, and powerful brakes.

Gold Time is 7.07, silver is 7:30, and Bronze is 7:58 if I remember correctly. I've only done two laps so far, my first was 7:42, my second was 7:29. It's easy to take chunks off if you know all the turns. I still had to be conservative on the last 1/3 of the track since I don't have it all down yet, and I hit the brakes way too much on some of the fast parts. I feel the hardest part is remembering all the turns right now.:dunce:

It's been worth the effort, IMO. Golding all these tests has taught me how to use the 900 degree steering very well, how the new physics feel, and helped me learn all the new courses really in depth. Especially Costa d'Almalfi and Citti de Aria, you learn all the little intracacies and quirks that help you get the most out of the track. At least now in sim mode I won't be going into races blindly.:)

I doubt ill get the DFP though, as I can't remember where I've previously stated, i not long ago bought a DF3, but i will do License tests a lot though, to help me get the feel of this new handling. Over the past two months i've predominantly been playing TOCA Race Driver 2, so it will be interesting to see how well i pick up GT4 after that change in style.

I use the DFpro as well, at first it was tough but i have gotten the hang of it now. so far i am up to test S-3 in which i am .500 seconds of the gold pace but i haven't had much time to play today or yesterday. Hopefully by next week i will be done with all golds on the licenses.

Learning the courses in detail has been a plus in trying to get all gold licenses 👍.

I thought I could get S16 done tonight, but it's alot harder to gold than the last Nurb lap was, I think they gave you too much extra time on that one. I worked on it for an hour or so but I'm really kinda tired tonight and can't concentrate too well. I did manage to get my ghost down to 7:17.4 from 7:29.8, so I made a nice improvement. I keep forgetting the turns toward the end and start driving "reactively" intsead of knowing what's ahead and attacking the course. I guess I'll have to study my replay several times in a row to try and remember the curves.

Helpful hint - press the left analogue stick down (R3) on your DS2 to fast forward your replay and get to the part you want to see. Nice feature, especially here or for multi lap races.👍

@Angel - S3 was easy to get down low, but a b!tch to get that last 1/2 second off. Make sure you get the first left after the tunnel correct, that's a good area to gain time. The Saleen really can get traction on the rumbles on this course, don't be afraid to use 'em. You'll get it soon I'm sure.:)

7 minute licenses... <<shudders>> one mistake and another 7 minutes down the drain, that is going to be soooooo frustrating, resulting in plenty of :banghead: :banghead: :grumpy: 👎 :banghead: :crazy: :crazy: :crazy:

If you know what I mean...

I have all gold on IB and almost all on IA and I found some of them to almost be impossible, I wanted to jump out a window last night so polyphony make sure you only attempt it with adult supervision :)

I know exactly the feeling from GT3 but I have no windows high enough to jump out of....
I'd like a view from as many people as possible on this, generally, is it easier to do the licenses with a DF3 (of which ive had 2 months experience) or a DS2 (which ive had 3 years of experience)???

I finally got the hang of the last part of Nurburgring, and passed S16's Gold time. Finished about .500 under. Now it's off to really get into the game and do some more racing.:D

Very nice CFM. Right now I've got all gold in A, IB and IA licenses. Still got those 2 to get in B license. Currently working on S license. I've done tests 1-8 with golds and currently working on test 9.

every test on the S license has been fairly easy until now, I am stuck on s-12 at suzuka circuit. I am at 1:57 but i just can't seem to get any lower. CFM, any helpful tips?

Well, I've had the game 3 1/2 days, about 8 hours a day or so. Maybe 30 hours?:confused: That's my best guess at least.

Is all of that time spent in tests? Have you gotten in the game yet?

Edit: Sorry CFM. Didn't see you latest post.

Well I moved up to test 14 on S license and I can do nothing with this car on this track. I cant even complete a lap. I've gotten semi close but not close enough. So much for getting gold on this one.

That was one of the hardest ones for me, it took me about 3 or 4 hours. On the section of s-curves right after the first hairpin, make sure you don't run wide and mess up your line for the next one, if you watch the demo you'll see. Basically all of the sections that were taught in previous license tests are very important, the hard part is nailing them all on the same lap. The tightest hairpin about 2/3 of the way through must also be nailed so you get powerful accelaeration out of it...again, watch the demo for tips. I was stuck at .016 over gold for around an hour, finally it all came together and I finished .400 under, even with a few small bobbles. It's just persistance on this one.👍

@Viper_Maniac - Nice job:tup: between me, you, and angelx, we'll have some founding members for the GTP 80 Gold club really soon.:sly:

@JDMr32 - sorry I didn't see your post before. Yes, I'm using the DFP. I love this thing!:mischievous:

Indeed especially since I finally got gold on those 2 pesky tests in B license. Now back to test 14 in S license. Got any advice CFM?

Edit: NVM, just got it. Off to tackle the last test. This should be fun. :dopey:

Good job on the 80 golds CFM!👍
I'm dreading some of the upcoming tests :scared: So far I'm at...

B - 6 golds and 10 silvers
A- 6 golds and 10 silvers
IB - 0 golds 5 silvers 0 bronze

Loving the game so far! and soon to get a DFP too :cool:

I have had my PStwo on for the last 4 days and I'm attempting it every chance I get but I'm still stuck on IA Coffee Break. I'm a damn .565 from the gold. ...F#%KING CONES!

I know Coffee Breaks don't count, but I don't want to look in my diary and see: gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, gold, SILVER, gold, gold, gold. ...sticking out like a sore thumb.

Any pointers, or should I just pass it up and come back later? At this point I'm beyond caring, I think.

My stats:

A: 3 golds, 13 silvers;
B: 2 golds, 14 silvers;
IB: 16 silvers;
IA: 1 silver;

Thats it so far. :)

Oh yeah, that one was very tough as well and quite the arm workout, I had a solid 2 hours into golding that one. The whole point of this lesson is to teach holding the proper turning radius using throttle control. As you exit the initial slalom, head to the right as much as you can before going left around the sweeping curve. Adding throttle makes the turning radius wider (farther from the cones), letting off gets you closer. Stay as close as you can through that section and use as flat an arc as possible. Then, the right/left/right U turns are fairly straight forward, just remember to think ahead and start "unwinding" the wheel as early as you can as you exit the last U-turn, floor it ASAP, and get ready to round the next corner as you would any other 90 degree turn. Blast through the kinked straight and into the final turn. This is where you make or break your run. You HAVE to stay tight the whole way 'round until you are sure you can hit the gas 100%. Don't run wide until the end as you exit and prepare for the braking zone. Hope this gets you headed in the right direction, all you need is repitition and stubbornness.:)

@Kelly - I highly recommend the DFP, it's like crack cocaine to a gearhead like me.:crazy: The 900 degree mode is awesome.👍 I know you're every bit as good a driver as me so you won't have a problem. (HA HA that makes me sound a bit smug:P but I probably am!:lol: )

@ Viper_Manac - Great work bro. Have fun on the Nurb, it's tough at first but you just have to keep at it. PS, you interested in a LAN get together anytime soon? I'd love to actuallly race against a good driver for once. My neighbor sucks ass.:dunce: We could also try that X-Link Kai sometime, I just need to hook up my router and crap and figure all that network stuff out. If you wanna, just PM me or email me. I'll be off the weekend of the 11-13th, and some other weekdays here and there.

CFM...

Are you going to do a detailed write up of your gold techniques?

I'd love to see it and it could be held as a resource for helping people pass the licences and getting the Model T!

C.

PS would also like to just see a write up of what the actual tests are in the first place for that matter!!

Yea, I am planning on doing it when I get some time, hopefully this week. I'll post Max Drive replays too for some of the tests.👍

so i suppose you can save replays to your max drive and load them onto your computer, am i right? then put them into windows movei maker and change them to .wmv? and another thing, just going off topic for a second: is it possible to record video tapes onto recordable dvds?

OMFG, I DID IT! After four days of frustration I got up this morning and checked the forums and then I decided to give it another try. As my morning grog wore off after a few attempts of getting back into the groove with the wheel and the physics, I got a 41.532 after being stuck at 41.565 for 4 days. I was excited... there was still hope! A few more tries and restarts, tries and restarts, and another few minutes later I got a good run and got 41.299. "I'm going to get this thing now, there's no way I'll give up being this close!" Another couple tries and I came up with 41.499 and then maybe another 2 or 3 tries go by... finally I get a good run through the slalom, probably tied/slightly ahead of the ghost. The next turn I pulled a little further, but going into the kinks I saw the ghost pull ahead of me. "Oh no, I hit the brakes too early." But the lower speed helped me through the next section quicker. I cam out of the last 90* of the section tied with the ghost, but in a better position for the final 90* turn. I shifted to 2nd mid turn and slowly pulled away. Through the kink and a little too early and too much on the brakes for the final long turn, but the slower speed again helped me get a better position to speed up quicker on the final straight. Approaching the end of the run I could see my ghost in the rear view, "I've got it this time!" I thought. Then as I was going to shift temporarily into 3rd before braking (the demo goes into 3rd for a moment, so I mimic) I stupidly tapped the left paddle instead of the right, downshifting me to 1st and sending the engine banging against the rev limiter. "Oh no, I'm DOOMED!" I was thinking, but I acted quickly and got back into second just before getting on the brakes, downshifting again to first (at the right time) and coming to a stop with a time of 40.982!

HOORAY! I've finally done it. Now I must be off to work in about an hour, but when I get home tonight IA will be mine! Plus I'm off for the next two days, and surely in that time I'll have S as well... 80 golds will be a reality for me soon enough!

finally i sat down and got suzuka under gold time. on my first try i thought i had it on;y to find out i was .025 away from gold but after 10 restarts i managed to beat my old time by .650 and was very close to beating the demo replay. i have completed all other tests in gold and now the ring is the on;y one left. :scared:

well... i could not be more pissed off right now. :grumpy:

so much for all golds, i had 79 golds and was on my way to the 80th after a lap at the ring which i saved for tonight. However i put in the game and guess what i get a freaking "your game data is corrupted" message.

guess i will import my GT3 licenses and just start with 10,000. Oh well, maybe when i start getting tired of racing i will try and gel all golds again.
