I've composed a letter to SCEE. I couldn't find a direct contact address for PD but i'm sure this will find it's way there. Feelings are running strongly about version 1.07's restrictions and we can make as many polls as we want but i think it needs a more direct approach. Just finding a contact email for SCEE took me half an hour or so, they don't like being contacted! Hope it's ok and gets some approval from this forum, after all it's my sole intention to get our game back to how it was 👍

Hello, my name is ######. I’m an avid Gran Turismo fan and have purchased every single uk release to date gaining many years of pleasure from them. GT5 has been no different so far, it has bought a lot of pleasure. The game is far from faultless though; the lack of races in A-spec is baffling as are the poor rewards (both credits and XP). In effect, what you have created with GT5 is a game that relies upon you grinding away literally thousands of times on one circuit to gain enough XP to reach level 40 in order to purchase the prize car – the X2010. Of course, for those of us who have a life outside of the PS3 ( a family, a career etc) the gifting function was a wonderful method of gaining this car as well as many of the other machines on offer that are difficult to obtain. Indeed, a whole online community has been formed purely for trading such is the popularity and scale of this feature.
So, what gives you (or whomever makes such decisions) the right to remove the ability to trade cars over 1,000,000 credits? This is our game which we have all paid for with our hard earnt cash. By all means keep adding updates that improve the game but to remove a hugely loved function is just mean. What possible harm can enabling the function do to anyone? I don’t see how you can possibly justify to me or any member of the online gaming community how you have the right to impose restrictions upon our game after it has been released – surely you should be seeking to improve the game, not make a whole community angry? I was thoroughly enjoying this game but now i feel that i am being dictated to on how i can play MY game. You only made the game, it’s not yours - it’s the publics so therefore you have no right to restrict methods of gameplay that a community has established over the past quarter of a year. I for one will never ever purchase any future editions of GT; what’s the point if i’m going to be dictated to how i can play my game a few months after buying it?
Of course this letter could have been written by any one of the THOUSANDS of GT5 racers and traders that you have upset with this ridiculous update. I may be one man but i am positive that my words reflect the feelings of a whole community and therefore i ask you to take this email to the top – let Kaz, the game developer see it. We need the restrictions on gifting cars above 1,000,000 credits totally abolished as well as the restrictions between shared accounts on one PS3. Please see sense on this and remember who you made this game for. When it comes to a franchise such as this, can you really afford to upset so many loyal fans? The public will vote with their wallets a few years down the line when GT6 comes out. I think your sales will drastically suffer if we keep getting such backward steps as 1.07 delivered. So lets hope then that on March the 3rd instead of this backward step being re-implemented that you do the right thing by your loyal customers and give us back our full game to use as we want.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email,

Yours sincerely,

######

Nice job, you kept talking about rights.
I'm sure they have the right to change it because when you play a game, you also accept a contract.

Who cares about trading and 1,000,000 restriction?

All they need to do is add a lot more A-Spec events and change the reward system. Problem solved.

How is trading/gifting (a function that was given to us from day one) cheating? It;s a driving game so surely we should all be equaly able to use any of the games cars as we want ? We're all equal and all paid good money for this game. Does trading hurt you in any way? Has it detracted from your personal game play?

Excellent, well written. I'm not sure it will do any good. I think the reason that they did this is not the selling on ebay or the trading, it's because they plan on offering content on the Playstation store for purchase and download and the selling and gifting was going to be eating into their profits. Redbull X2010, $2.99. Unlock all cars, just $29.99. Just my 2 cents, I have no basis for this, just a gut feeling.

Open your eyes and read the boards and you will see that plenty care about it. It's not just you here, there's thousands of people who will be annoyed by this. If it doesn't affect you, good - i'm happy for you. This letter is on behalf of those who have been affected by it. Try not to look at things from such a selfish view point.

It wasn't at first but it's only been used for cheating since save protection was removed, it totally destroyed the value of cars on the game (both their financial value and exclusivity), just look online how many X2010s there are driven by level <30's that have probably been bought with a 10k Daihatsu.

Theres your main mistake.

Its not your game, or our game or the public's game.

You purchased a license to use a software program and you purchased the media its on and the box it came in. You have no rights to how the software runs, its not yours.

As a part of a large family myself, it's important to let all users on the PS3 use the gifting system, so please include this in mails beeing sent. As of now it's discriminating that only one family member gets to gift a car, remove completely or open it up again.

Exactly, a contract was signed to play the game.

I don't care for such technical iregularities. If i've bought it, it's mine - i don't care in what legal context.

Yeah, honestly... OP: You need to rewrite that letter, it comes off as whining from a kid. Sorry, I even agree with your cause.

Everyone else: Does this REALLY need to get sidetracked into a legal discussion wherein neither side appears to know what the hell they're talking about?

Edit: OP, just write a simple note saying that trading expensive cars with your friends was your favorite part of the game, and now it is gone and you would like it to come back. There's no need to act as though you've been held up in Guantanamo bay.

Not at all. If i drive down a road the wrong way then i know i'm breaking a law. If i play a game and choose to play it how i want then i've broken no laws or broken no contracts. Games are surposed to deliver pleasure, not anger. Get this conception out of your heads that these cars have values attatched to them, they're just computer generated images. An X2010 holds no more value than a Vauxhall Corsa Comfort. Does it affect you if someone has 20 of them and is only level 8? NO !!!!! Live and let live.

I don't recall signing any contract when i bought my copy?

Its an implied license contract and by law they have the license posted online and a note on the back of the box that if you want to read it go there. You used to get software inside the box in a paper or plastic wrap with the contact printed on it that by opening it you were agreeing to the contract.

Either way just because you feel one way, doesn't make the law any different.

No, you have. Just because you haven't taken the time to read the contract does not make it invalid. Go to www.us.playstation.com/support/useragreements if you'd like to read it . This has nothing to do with values attached to the cars or anything else like that, it has to do with theres a contract in place and exploiting a bug is breaking it.

Thats like saying I don't agree with laws so I'll just ignore them.

Exactly.

yeah,or make it available to buy at level 30,not just unlock it to so it would stay there until 10 more levels, which some of us will only achieve 4-5 years from now LOL.the main issue of this restriction is clearly because of the exploitations of the X1s,but why because of one car,u have to kill off other 80 cars, that i guaranteed most of us wouldn't even have the licence to drive it in real life LOL.isn't this is a simulation game huh?

Your laws are not our laws. ;) EULAs mean nothing over here in NL, because of they way they are offered.

Anyway, on-topic: if the OP wants to make a point, return the game to the shop or demand a refund from Sony, writing another complaint thread on a forum will help nothing.

Have a look on ebay if you think that, and I do care if people have X2010s without earning them, this car was meant to be a status symbol that you got when completing the challenge (especially the prototype), but now anybody can get one for free.

For reference, SCEE merely distribute the game in Europe. They didn't "make" anything.

Then more fool them for seperating with real money to gain it when they could just come here and trade.
Also, to be fair, this letter was written for those who are against the ban - to try and help out. You obviously don't care for it which is fine, i respect that. So why can't you respect our view? If you're not bothered about the restriction then this isn't the thread for you!

Read my letter properly, i'm aware of that and have asked them to forward it to the game developer. It is in referance of "to whom it may concern"
