A light-hearted look at GT4

Great thread Parnelli!!

When racing at the Nurburgring you'll always snag the fence on the last corner of the track as the grid forms up at the start of a race

Not all cars do that, I noticed about a week ago that my Honda S500 didn't catch the wall, probably due to the micro size of the car, or the fact PD forgot to program it to hit the wall.....doh......

And I only have the magical powers of swearing at machinery. And Roo. And Jondot.

But when it comes to LAN-ning GT4, you know what to stick, and where to stick it.

No offence, Jon.

Hundreds of thousands of people turn up to watch a stock Honda Jazz race against an Insight, Prius, C3, Micra and a Mini One.

and yet no one shows up to a race event at the 'Nurb....EVER.

spectators at rally events are superhuman, they're as strong as the orange fencing and will always make sure you stay on track. 👍

you only need daytime running lights to race at night

the sky is purple in Hong Kong, who knew?

to hold a race in NY you don't need grandstands.

Drifting is really really bad and unnecessary in a racing game. So are donuts. :embarrassed:

That's actually realistic. Notice it only happens at high RPM. Welcome to the Ford 4.6L DOHC. Also it's off-pitch to be a belt whine both IRL and in-game.

:shrugs: We've got a Mustang Cobra on our lot right now, and it's got a little belt noise (the belt is HUGE on those Fords lol) but nothing like the game! Rev it up, and all I hear is the engine/exhaust booming away. Any belt noise gets drowned out, even with the hood up.

It's not so much that there's belt noise in the game, it's the fact that it's very easy to almost eliminate it with a can of silicone spray! Instead, PD chose to leave the whine there...the same whine that's been there since 2001/GT3: A-spec!

And you will still win a prize car after winning the race....

Nissan actually made an infinite number of R390s, GT-R R33 LM race cars, NISMO 400Rs.

The R33 Skyline is faster than the R34.

Self-driven cars will be an absolutely crap idea. Just collide with a wall at a single car and the autodriver will just reverse and then hit the wall again and again until the end of time.

You can never die, when you crash a car.

Your car is never damaged when you hit something.

Best part is, you don't have to worry about the insurance or registration either.

EDIT: I nominate this for thread of the month. If there is such an accolade.

Now you all have really messed up!! I'm sure that now GT5 will not be released until all these bugs are fixed. I keep reading that K.Y. is a perfectionist, so I'm sure that you have now set the release date back an indefinite ( infinite??) amount of time.

In the nurburgring, you go much faster if you hit the straight going the other way than you do the right way, even though the right way is slightly descending.

1.) The Skylines can never manage to even get 900 hp
2.) The WRX's do not sound realisitc, I could make better car noises with my mouth as a child playing with Matchbox cars.
3.) The tyre smoke.. well it's pretty poor.
4.) Can't do donuts unless you're aided by the grass
5.) Sometimes the driver's helmet/head looks insanely huge inside the car.
6.) I know it's not Grand Theft Auto but why does that photographer always manage to get out of the way just in the nick of time?
7.) The AI must be visually impaired as it constantly rear ends you among other things.

That said, it's a fantastic game. Even 5 or so years after it's historical 2004 release it still provides fun and I can still sit on it for a few hours.

1. A fiat 500 can do 180mph in reverse, while hit with a ram head on.

2.The crowds in newyork, are not crowds at all.

3. Cars with under 20 hp, can not make up the "starting hill on the nurburgring, No matter what you try to do to gain more speed.

4. The Corvette Z06 sounds like a V6 camaro.

5. The yellow bird has a real European tag that says "MN : P911"

6. Seattle look's beautiful in the sunset.

7. AI is scripted and will spin out in the same spot, Very noticeable on Le sarthe.

8. you can use the "e brake" as a clutch, Very effective, even keeps the boost from dropping, the car also shifts more realistically plus back fires.

9.The SRT4 sounds just like a srt4 with a "sports exhaust" Good job PD.

10. Every light on car is a different color, and not just "White"

11. A fully tuned vitz RS Turbo can go around the nurburgring in the high 7 minutes mark.

12. with a super charger installed, You can't hear it.

13. in Mono the car's sound more realistic..who knew.

14. you can pull spectacular stunts hitting the guard rails at test course.

15. if you hit a car head on in a caterham you will fly backwards while he keeps going.

Yeah but that's epic, I love that license plate.

I liked that tag for the YellowBird saying "MN: P911" too, it really represents the car! :) Most people who like the YellowBird would know it as well as that cool looking car.

Actually if you watch the demo for license test A11 in 3rd-person (full car) mode, at the very beginning one of the photographers manages to run thru the back of the Lancia!

The worlds greatest DTM touring car driver (in terms of championship wins) is a little known guy called Bob who drives whenever I can't be arsed.

It's ok to enter an 1100BHP LMP on supersoft slicks in a race containing Toyota Yaris', Nissan Cubes and the like.

The TVR Speed 12, channelling 800hp and as many lbft to the rear wheels, is a real danger to its tyres. Its front tyres.

I love how the FPV F6 sounds as it does in real life. I'm glad they got that right because that is one of the best car sounds I've ever heard.

Isuzu has only made 3 different cars.

Brabus, MCR, Alpina and Gemballa don't exist - and neither do Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and thankfully Kia.

It's always sunny in the Eifel, a region that is known for rapid weather changes, rain and fog :dopey:

If you ram an opponents car, all the energy gets transfered to him and he flies off track, while you can continue as if nothing happened

Ginetta G4 Can be turned into a 4 wheeled motorcycle when fully tuned, and can blitz the ring in under 7:30 seconds. 227hp220FTQ, 403 IBS top speed 180+ with out nitrous or draft  Funnest car in game period.

Cones come back.

SRT4 can be the highest powered FWD car in the game.

Honda civic 94 only sounds good with semi racing exhaust.

post 18 century cars "ie, The T and Daimler motorcarage" Come standard with TCS with 10 settings.

In no other game can you drive a car made by a shoe company.

In no other game, can you find a dodge viper and a honda today G together.

Apricot hill has a Forrest fire in the background, curitsy "Smokey"

Headlights light up the ground where the fog lights illuminate..and sometimes overlap.

A player dodge ram cannot be stopped, no matter what car you hit. not even when you hit another ram.

In no other game can you do a track day in a honda oddessy, toyota prius, honda insight or honda element.

Toyota prius is an excellent track car when tuned right...who knew.

No other game has the Jay leno tank.

When you want to have a nice lightly tuned car battle at tsukuba in "ai 5" that damn mitsubitshi pajareo shows up"

The honda oddessy has the best drag coefficient in the game.

no V8 should exceed "sport exhaust or in some cases semi race" Race full is just a no no.

Stock hot hatches are fun as hell to drive on the nurburgring.

Dang you took my answer today. :)

I'll go with this one instead: pit crew workers never have to remove or install more than one lug nut per wheel.

They also walk like stick figures and often vanish as we pull away from the pits.

1) When you do a full pitstop, and refuel to the brim, only one tyre man stands up after he changes the tyre. The rest still squats with one arm raised up.

2) When you select to refuel only, they car still get jacks up, although no tyres were changed.

3) They never show the tyre changing process of the Jag Silk Racing car. Why? I don't know, maybe because the rear wheels are covered?

4) When you make a mistake and lock up, no matter if your in a 100 hp car or a 1000 hp car, the amount of smoke resulted by the lock up will be the same.

5) In the open cockpit cars, at the start, for some reason, the driver's head never looks straight. He's always looking towards his left.

6) When you take a trip to the kitty litter, the same amount of dust/sand gets kicked up, no matter what speed you go. And, they never seem to spill over on the track.

7) The Nissan GTR Racing Version (not sure of the model, but it's a basically GT version of the R35) always bottoms out at every part of the track, resulting in massive sparks flying. Not even the F1 car bottoms out that much.

8) Although, there's no overtaking in rolling starts before the star/finish line, in some circuits, you tend to overtake the 5th guy even before the race starts.

9) Only at the end of the Mulsanne straight, the front disc tends to glow under braking.

10) The cars mysteriously don't lock and spin out when you gear down too fast before the corner approaches. Instead, the engine just revs higher...
