Detuning an LMP is the best way to win the event everytime, I've been running flat 6 minute laps with a 650PP R92CP on RS tyres.

That sounds like a quite a ride!! I gave it a try with the classic Jaguar race car but couldn't catch the Ford in front. Did it many times with various GT-R for laps around 6'23, an easy 1 million credits

It is pretty crazy at times, they corner much quicker than road cars. My r92cp went went round in 6'01, although I can go a bit quicker.

Got both Nissan LMP's. Will try it after my nice is gone today
Family...

The LMPs are really quick for this, currently working on the McLaren F1 race car, its really fast! :dopey:

Saw this post this morning and figured I'd throw some RH tires on the trusty Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car and managed to fairly easily beat the Ferrari 330 P4 set with a 6'41" and a 6'35" (slow, I know). will try a harder set to see if they slow down to my level.

Ford GT 06 (642pp/RS) will beat the Ford GT LM Race Car set with only a 6'41.3" vs a 6'47.5". I tried to upload a photo of results but got "invalid file" message. Needless to say, it can be done. I've seen it debated here, but it appears to me, that the weaker the car you have, the weaker the set you get INITIALLY, If you quit and reload you will get a different set.

Only one ive managed to do it in is the Xanavi Hiroto GT-R '01 with High range turbo, racing softs, quite a weapon

I managed a 6'16 in an xanavi nismo gt-r on RS, my favourite had got to be a 650PP R92CP! Capable of going under 6 minutes in the right hands!

Got 5:50 with the R92CP, it has some incredible handling! and tons of torque , got to be careful even at 650pp. :)

I tried detuning my R8 race car (LMP one), managed a pretty decent lap and ran a 5:53.1xx reckon mid 40's is possible with a pretty flawless lap. I found the r8 easier to handle and get the power down asap compared to the r92cp. The r8 feels about 10 seconds quicker than the r92cp despite having about 25 less bhp. The handling and speed on it is incredible. I much prefer using LMP's tuned to about 650pp rather than running at 100% power.

Detuned LMP's are the way forward in this event!

If you want some close racing fun you could always take out a slower car ...
Granted you won't be able to compete with the BMW/McLaren but still you can have some fun racing ...

A BMW M3 GTR '03 for example ( street car )... at 550PP with racing softs and no aero

Granted the overall time is not the best and it can go faster but overtaking others with a slower car isn't always easy so planning is essential ...

Still it was a hell of a lot more fun then using an de-tuned car in my opinion ...
However everyone should use a car they feel comfortable with :D

I would rather finish 2nd in a dogfight than smoke the field in an OP car.

With all the credit inflation in GT5 there is no real need to make the most credits every time.

I did 6:37 after the Camaro spun me out.

well i understand the usage of 6min or below cars incase you are grinding $$$ for a 20mill car , but i can't help i just love those 550pp ish rides ...
and unless i am facing the BMW i am still earning the big $$$ :D

next step might be a 525pp car still need to figure out wich one and tune it ...

a no spoiler S2000 maybe , or a F40 that should feel right at home on the ring :D

Will have to try the R8 if i find one in the UCD, every time i seen one i didnt had enought cr. to buy it.

Bentley Speed 8 on RS tires, 650pp, did 5'46.6 even with traffic that kept getting in the way. Pretty sure a really clean run could reach a 5'45.

I think going for sub 6-minute laps is a challenge - it's pretty hard to speed through traffic without losing time or hitting other cars or touching grass while they weave all over the place and brake test you.

I love a dogfight too, but the AI needs to stop that exasperating thing where they slow way down for 3 seconds every time you approach (especially if they are exiting a corner, or are driving right in the middle of the track, etc). Until that is fixed, the AI will continue to be nowhere near the potential pace of the cars they are driving.

I agree, I like seeing how far you can push a car at 650PP. I don't have the 8 speed but I have:

Peugeot 908\905
Mazda 787B
Both r8 race cars (LMP/car production RMed)
Pescarolo gv5
BMW V12 LMR
Nissan r92cp
And some more I can't remember!

Gonna try some of the peugeots out on this event. I don't tend to slow down for AI, toughest overtaking part is around the flugplatz area. I tend to go on the left hand grass along flugplatz to avoid hitting AI and without losing speed. Even with the mclaren gtr as lead car I tend to overtake him before the 2 minute mark.

Heres the R92CP '92 run, could been better but the AI definatly make it difficult to have a clean run.. overtaking wasnt too bad but i missed some curves later on the track... :)

It also had low top speed, should had used a wider gearing with all that torque!

I wouldn't reccommend using the standard LMP1 cars to grind for money/exp because you will put a lot of miles on it. if you want to keep them in good condition buy the premium ones that you can buy again at any time. Examples: Audi R10 TDI 08, Mazda 787B 91' (fun to drive on the course.), the two peugeot LMP1 race cars as well (except I hate everything from France but the Citroen GT.). I'm not saying you shouldn't use them for a few races, I like to take my Sauber C9 (prized possession) out every once and a while.

I *try* not to slow down for AI :sly: but ... I also try not to go in the grass unless the AI shoves over when I'm next to them, I'll do it to avoid contact. Hatzenbach and Schwedenkreuz are the worst for me with AI shenanigans.

5'47.477 tonight in the R89C, I like its handling slightly better than the R92CP. Going to try the R8 LMP next...

Nice run with the R89, dont have this car so i cant try it but 5:47 is good :)

The times you guys can run are amazing! I'm lucky to get below 6.20 with DS3 and 6.30 with the wheel! How do you do it???

I was about to start braking to go over quiddlebacher hohe (the deceptive hill where if you don't brake, you go flying) and an AI decides to move into the path of my car. I was doing 190mph and he was probably at about 140mph you can probably just use your imagination for what happened next

My imagination: shove AI into that protruding barrier where he'll come to a very sudden stop, with a few hostile gestures at him :sly: Then some mild profanity and a restart... at least that's how it goes for me.

Wow man, you were very right about the R8 LMP...

Here's the tuning I used...
650pp: 499hp, 900kg, RS tires
Aero: 60, 72; Trans: 217mph; LSD 8, 48, 8; Brakes: 4, 6
Susp: spr 14.8, 15.0; reb 10, 10; comp 8, 8; anti 6, 7
Align: camb 2.4, 0.8; toe 0, 0

Also, thanks mike_gt3, appreciate it mate - yeah the R89C if you get a chance to grab it, nice car for the 'Ring.

I finally won the event last weekend. Did it in a (very?) bad time of 6:37.xx using the R89C. The lead car was the Ford GT LM Race Car Spec II however. It's gonna take me a lot more practice to beat the McLaren.

I still maintain guys if you want a good race, the Xanavi GT-R (premium one) and the other premium GT-R race cars are great(but beware some are slightly better than others). I use them with mild tunes, 700bhp and some extra aero. I think my best was 6.14.xxx beating the Mclaren F1 easily.
Havent tried it in the audi r8 lmp, in the R92 i got like 6 mins.

6.12.549 in the Yellowhat YMS Tomica GT-R '08

I was running this a few times last night(un-sober). Happened to get the Lister Storm as the polesitter. Wow is he slow.

I was using my 5,000 mile 638PP Camaro LM since I didn't know if the McLaren would be there and was ok with racing him if he was. Ran with SM tires, a 6:5x.xxx beat the 350Z LM by 18 seconds after he finally passed the Lister!

So I tried Comfort Hards for a laugh. 12th with some mistakes. I could gain a few tenths in some sectors but lost multiple seconds in others that didn't seem too bad. The Lister won with a 7:20! I switched to Comfort Softs, a big slingshot from the Lister saw me almost but not quite make a miracle pass on the 350Z. Then the 350Z got around the Lister too early to catch, but on my 5th and final(by now very un-sober) attempt the Lister stayed up front and I barely caught him in the final corner to win, with a 7:15  .

Just felt like sharing how amazingly slow the [AI] Lister is(no surprise I'm sure) and how much fun driving a GT1 car on street tires was. :)
