Just too bad those AR MAX codes doesn't seem to work. My magazine with the demo is on it's way. And my PS2 doesn't handle copied DVD's too well, time for a new lens.

Hmmm...not sure, though I remember doing it (I think). I don't have time tonight to screw with it, sorry. Can it make a .BIN file? If it can Gumby will make the .ISO.

You can also find something to make a .RAR file or .BIN file and gumby will make the .ISO.

I typed in "iso mac os x" in google and found this link,

http://web.brandeis.edu/pages/view/Bio/MakingCDs

maybe there is something in there to point you in the right direction, I'm sure if you spent some time with google you can find a freeware app.

I KNOW OS 9 and it's disk utility or disc burner (it's been a while, can't remember) would make ISO files.

Good luck.

In regard to mac issues, I have made the files into a .dmg and opened them on PC with Cdmage by changing the extension to iso. I have also converted the file into .cdr with disk utility. Once again this can be opened by Cdmage, yet the problem is that when I click on track one, the program fails to produce the pcpx_966.49 file.

Any ideas?

BTW, my mac has DVD-R…PC does not.

So you had the CD from the mag right? Made an image of it with Toast? If so doesn't toast make a .ISO file anyway, at least shows the option? Or a .BIN file?

Changing the extention on the PC I think is your issue. The .DMG isn't actually an .ISO and CDmage knows it. You need to go back to the mac side to make a real .ISO. Gumby will make the ISO, but it needs a .BIN type file.

You may also try mounting the .DMG file. Copying the files in it to a new folder and finding a way to produce a .rar archive of it (there HAS to be shareware for that). Gumby will make the .RAR an ISO and them bring that real .ISO into CDmage and follow the earlier instructions. they worked on the first try for me on my Powerbook with VPC 6 /win XP.

Thanks kensei, but I am without toast. I came across a site that described a command prompt method of converting the file. Do you know anything about Mac DOS??

Nope, sounds painful.

If you are comfortable with the command line there HAS to be a .BIN, .RAR, .GI file maker for Linux.

I wish you luck.

Crap. Why can't someone just post the hacked iso somewheres!? Or even just mail a copy to me, I'll pay for the disc and shipping.
I've wasted three DVDs trying to get this crap to work, and I'm down to my last peice of quality media (the other Memorex discs don't work for PS2 backup discs...), so I don't want to burn another unless I'm SURE it will work.

I will upload the no time limit demo on a.b.ps2.dvdiso tommorow. (newsgroup)

It's faster and i just don't know how to host a bittorent file.

This thread is turning into a useful lesson on why not to buy a Mac. I have given up…back to laps in the torque-less little 1 series.

Pshaw! Macs are the only way to go (well OS X/Linux). It is windoze that has the issues.

I just realized something. You have a Mac with a superdrive, correct? You also have Virtual PC? Why are you making your life painful and ripping your magazine disc on the mac end? Why not rip it on the PC side with some windoze DVD ripper/imager? There has to be hundreds of those out there that are free. Once there you will have a nice clean .ISO that you can hack the way described with CDmage/AXE and then saving (exiting) CDmage with a nice clean .ISO, they using windows file sharing on the mac side transfer that .ISO back to the mac and burn with the disk utility to DVD.

On my powerbook when in VPC I can see and mount CDs/DVDs, but Win XP doesn't have a driver (or one that I don't have) for the superdrive. If you can find a superdrive (or whatever the OEM name is for it) driver for windoze you can image/hack/burn all with in VPC. It will be slow as death but should work in theory. :)

(Re: Egghead) Well that would be great, assuming I could access that newsgroup.

I try entering that for the server address in Netscape's Newsgroup functions, and it can't connect.

Would you be able to upload it to my FTP server if I gave you an account?

Yeah, just pm me the login and i will upload it to your ftp, np. Altho my upload is kinda low, around 60 KB/ps so it will take a long time. (i guess it will be 4 hours or so.)

A nice thought, though I have a super-drive equipped Mac without virtual PC. I have imported the demo files onto my mac and compressed them onto a CD so that my Pentium 4 could carry out the required actions. The problem is that the PC is without DVD-R…

Oh, yes I have legitimate magazine version of the demo.

Edit: Sage is an accomplished Mac man; maybe he will have some useful ideas.

Thanks Egghead ... that will help lots of people out there
think about how many people access that group per day

Where? Google?

No, if you use newsgroups you can find it in a.b.ps2.dvdiso. Use those words in a search (8 hours left) to find the demo. I'm not going to explain how to use newsgroups because there are alot of tutorials on the internet. :)

so did the hex edit using AXE actually work for anyone?

I just used that method but I gotta get my friend to bring over his laptop with a DVD burner

As both methods of freezing the time limit use AXE, I guess it worked for everyone who patched the demo successfully yet.

I hate to bother you but I have no idea what you're talking about when you say newsgroups. I just did a ton of searching and I realized that if you're talking about a specific one, I'll never find it. Are you refering to this site or something else?

http://www.newsgroups.com/

It's not a website, it's a newsgroup. Every ISP (or nearly every one) also offers newsgroup service. As far as normal news, you can read it right through your email program (Outlook, whatever). But for files, you'll need a dedicated newsgroup program like NewsBin Pro. Once you have the program, input your ISP's newsgroup settings, and it'll bring up a list of servers. There will be hundreds of thousands of them. Most begin with "alt.binaries.whatever". Then look for the specific group mentioned above (I can't remember it's name offhand), add it to your "list", double-click it, and it'll download all the headers (the "subject lines", as it were, of the individual posts). The demo will be one of hundreds of various games on the server, so you'll need to look for it. It'll be split into many smaller RAR files (rather than uploading a single 1.2GB file). Just download them all, open it up in WinRAR, and bam.. there's your ISO. Burn it and go.

Where do I get that information?
Do a search on your ISPs website. There should be some info how to configure your e-mail account and stuff, you should also find some info about how to configure your software for newsgroups, if the ISP offers any.

Where do I get that information?

It should be with the rest of your internet information.. the same place your mail servers, login information, etc. Worst case, call your internet provider. Every company distributes that information differently.. some by paper, some by email.. I've no idea where you should look for it.

Finding the FF FF 42 24 07 00 40 14 line is the hardest thing to do. :)
lol, that´s true.

Is the AI much better or am I just too crappy at Nordschleife?:odd: I mean, they still ram onto your back sometimes, but it´s hard to win the race now, they keep up a good fight until the end of the race.

Either way, now I have no doubts that GT4 is gonna be THE racing game to own. I think it´s very hard for any game to come close to what GT4 is going to offer overall.

Thank´s Kaz and PD, you´re awesome! 👍

You had doubts before?

It was clear 2 years ago that this would be THE racing game.
