From what I seen in the 2nd xcm beta video the feedback still looks soft . I think xcm will get it right (I hope) . Have any of you guys seen the review insidesimracing did on forza 3 ? They loved it . They said the feedback was great . I think if Fanatec can make FFB on Xbox XCM should be able to make it happen. Xcm been doing coverters for a long time , and I think they know what there doing . I just hope If xcm gets it right MS don't go and kill it with a update . Anyone Remember when MS killed that that memory card that took a sd card with a update . MS don't play well with others .

Looks to me like they're just piggy backing the gamepads security chip and then the wheel is merely simulating a gamepad and converting the rumble to logitechs FFB motors. The Xbox licensed wheels support BOTH rumble and XID FFB. The XID FFB would require its own circuitry and to work stand alone it would need a security chip from MS.

Emulating a gamepad isn't my idea of true wheel support.

We'll have to see. That was some decent wheel movement there.

Unless XCM reverse engineers the XID FFB which Fanatec has done for their wheels on the PS3, it's not XID but same difference. However, the game their testing on their second video looks like Need for Speed: Most Wanted which I have, and when I tried it w/ my Xbox FFB Wireless Racing Wheel Official from MS it had NO FFB what so ever, but I think just vibration.

So I think Shylock may be right that their just emulating the vibration, though I could be wrong about the game their playing there.

The game could easily be NFS Undercover though, I own both games, they look pretty much the same since they are using the same engine.

NFS Undercover supports FFB according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_Wireless_Racing_Wheel#Supported_games

As for the rumble effect, the old Logitech DriveFX xbox 360 wheel translated rumble to a simulated FFB and it wasn't nearly as violent. The G27 was spinning and locking very violently at 180 degrees. The old DriveFX worked by simulating FFB using rumble and having a strong center spring to feel the weight of the car, I own one, this adapter looks like its going to be better than that.

Did a little research too on previous XCM adapters, looks like I'm going to have to buy a wired 360 controller for this to work properly, a wireless one with the plug and play charge kit doesn't work as a "wired" controller for this adapter. So with price ($80), shipping(??), and an extra controller ($20-$30..hopefully pick up a used one), this is really starting to add up.

To make it support FFB they would basically need to use the brains of the X360 wheel instead of a controller. That way, the console thinks it's a wheel that is connected which would allow it to send FFB information. Also, that little box would have to have a little converter that converts the Xbox's FFB info to the Logitec setup.

This is quite possibly already in the device itself, I mean they already have adapters to use PS3 controllers on the 360. This one specifically they are marketing as being able to use the wheels, its possible it is just transferring rumble to simulated FFB, but its also possible that its using real FFB like the Fanatec wheels.

We shouldn't be letting the whole plugging the 360 controller into the adapter throw us off. It seems like the only reason you must plug the controller into the adapter is so the 360 reads the security device in the controller telling it that its a real xbox accessory. Its quite possible they have other chips in the adapter to emulate the force feedback style of microsoft (XID).

With the 360 wheels being discontinued and selling off for really low amounts at stores (walmart were selling them for $20), it wouldn't have been too hard for XCM to grab a few wheels and study how the chips work, since they are into the controller emulation business.

The good thing about all this is they keep stressing they can upgrade the firmware on the adapter as needed.

I'm being really optimistic about this, I'm hoping XCM come through with this 100%. Paying the extra $100+ for this (adapter, shipping, wired controller) isn't that big of a deal for me, considering the extra cost if I wanted to switch to Fanatec. The fact that I already have a G25 mounted to a Wheel Stand Pro makes this adapter so much better, way less hassle to race a few laps on Forza. I'm a huge GT fan, but the Forza series really fills alot of the gaps in the GT series.

It almost seems like XCM released info on the f1 converter with pics and a release date(wink wink) to then collect feedback from maybe buyers to make this to make this thing work best . I'm glad they held back from shipping . I got my fingers crossed on thing . Don't let us down XCM :)

You should be able to hook one into a second controller or use the Microsoft Wireless Earpiece-thing, but I can't say for sure.

Wireless headset should work fine. There is a lot riding on this piece of kit working. A lot of people from a Forza forum I know are hoping that it can deliver the goods.

when steering left or right you have to steer alot of degrees before (in the video) the car actually steers.....in other words, input doesn't seen very direct from youtube vid.

And like mentioned, we won't have to wait long before M$ patches things when this concept really lifts off.

If its anything like the XCM Cross Fire adapter to use the ps3 controller on a 360 you can only use a xbox 360 wireless headset.

Am I right in thinking you won't be able to use a headset online?

I'm really getting sick of Microsoft and the way they lock down everything, the Playstation market has way better accessories and options. It wouldn't even be so bad if Microsoft would release some decent hardware, but as we all know their hardware is not the best..the 360 itself is plagued with problems and that excuse of a wheel they released for their system is horrible. The wheel is loose, its completely plastic, horrible pedals, weak paddles, I mean you shouldn't have to take your new wheel apart and install a massive bearing to make the wheel feel good. Thats a horrible design, and even worse they pulled it off the market with no plans for a new one, the only option out there is the Fanatec for 360 users, and thats definately out of alot of peoples price range..but then again they'll lock down 3rd party companies from making accessories because of the "potential to break the 360".

OK, good, I really hope so, thanks for the information much appreciated, good to know indeed. Right that's what I was thinking in regards to the wheel locking starkly at 180 degrees, unless it's the equivalent of a rumble motor being constantly on, it seems like this adapter is indeed doing more than simply and mundanely transcoding vibration effects into "FFB".

Come on XCM, this device could be so awesome! 👍

The 360 hardware has been fine since the IBM designed Jasper mobo's came out. And the 360 is light years ahead when it comes to online communication, when I'm racing GT5 online with my friends we use our turtle beach headsets and get the game sound from the PS3 and the online chat from the Xbox 360 party lounge. I just turn on the PS3 and the 360 we meet in 360 chat by plugging the turtle beach mic cable into a 360 controller and then the main headset is wireless. It works perfect and 360 chat is much clearer and you can have parties and send voice messages. We can also hear the PS3 local room chat too!

As for the MS wheel, I said it was the worst AC powered wheel ever made, but the Fanatec Turbo S was the official wheel of FM3 not the MS wheel. even my old Fanatec Forceshock 3 from the original FM was a much higher quality wheel than MS' garbage.

I prefer the security measures MS uses, it means %&%$tards that use turbo buttons and the like to cheat have to go through much more hassle to do so.

As for the logitech DriveFX which used rumble to simulate FFB, it was a $60 wheel which merely emulated a gamepad. I really doubt a $60 wheel would have anywhere near the power of a G27. My old Fanatec Speedster 3 also used rumble to emulate FFB and it was MUCH stronger in force than MS wireless wheel with real FFB. You get what you pay for when it comes to FFB strength.

First time I've ever read TurboS was the official wheel for Fm3. From what I've read it was actually suppose to be the official wheel for RacePro. Even the clutch works better as a button than the pedal in FM3 as well as some of the top times was with the Microsoft wheel. TurboS support seemed more of an after thought than an official wheel as Fm3 didn't really take advantage of this wheel.

Agree w/ the online service trumps PSNs, but you're far wrong about the MS wheel, the MS wheel was by far a great wheel, not the best, but even w/o the bearing mod (which does increase the feel and stability a decent amount) was a superb wheel w/ high quality materials, plastics, and excellent FFB and control, albeit some saying weak FFB, I thought it was damn ok, you must be talking about a different wheel, haha.

Ah! Well, Most Wanted was better. :)

Can't wait for some real world reports on this adapter.

Oh I agree, some should be showing up in the wild now soon. I've been monitoring this thread since it has started, there are some games on the 360 i've been neglecting due to the lack of a decent wheel.

Pricey but if this works well... could be well worth it...

My fear is that last I recall the mouse adapter they made never worked very well because it was emulating control stick movement via mouse inputs and it had weird lag issues, but this seems like a much more natural switch so seems it should work better.

I'm extremely interested to see how this thing works once it's out in the wild, one of the main reasons I stopped playing Forza was because my 2nd MS wheel broke and I wasn't about to shell out for a new one.

The video didn't fill me with confidence tho, it looked like there is lag between the wheel and the game, although he was playing NFS.
