ALMS Season V

Reducing oversteer makes the car unstable? I don't see the big difference. From everything I've heard, the car 'drives' the same way, but with a wheel it's easier to modulate throttle and steering inputs.

By far.

Also, there's also steering inputs. In wheels, you're usually not on the lock of steering, whilst in DS3's you are on the lock more frequently. Controllers can go from lock to lock in the flick of the thumb, so they can correct steering much quicker. This makes a big difference in suspension and LSD settings.

People with G27s complain about my tunes. (I got a 1/5 rating on one of my DS3 tunes, when the guy used the G27, but 4/5 with the DS3.)

I complain about G27 tunes. I found it twitchy, and it was slower, and worse on tires than my original tune. So, I ditched the setup, and reverted to my own.

The LSD settings are pretty self explanatory. Lower initial torque allows for the acceleration or deceleration to take affect faster. It provides a more instant response in what the LSD does. It makes the car more responsive with lower acceleration and initial torque settings, but it can make the tires easier to spin. You don't have to be a genius to get a decent set up, it may not be the best, but it'll be good enough.

That's exactly right. I had to completely overhaul the tunes that I had put on my cars when I switched from ds3 to G27.

I always look for tunes online that are for 1.)online racing (although I think you can test now with online physics offline from one of the updates) and 2.)wheel, if specified.

I think with a wheel it's harder to rely on oversteer caused by opposite wheel lock (the skandanavian flick or whatever it's called), and getting the car turned around based on momentum in general. Everything is more gradual, even braking and accelerating. I really have to work on hitting the apex and flowing in and out of a corner like IRL cornering. I've just started working on trail braking, which I never realized helps a LOT in GT5. It's actually easier than other sims and it really helps get the car turned more precisely with the right brake bias.

But yeah in general I've noticed I take corners differently than DS3 people. I can't just "attack" corners as easily.

Hey TT13, clear your inbox man.

I would but people keep filling it up every time I do :dopey:

No, but seriously, I'll clear it up after I post this. 👍

Yeah. I can see, that I tend to Scandi-flick in every corner, while driving a rally car, or a drift car, but, I can't clutch kick, while G27 users can. There are trade-offs to each.

Just be glad that I don't send PMs. I get lots of PMs. Like, 16 in about 6 hours. :scared:.

Well, looks like we can forget about a Porsche Prototype in the US.
This is complete bull ****.
Will definitely go to Lime Rock next year as it will be the last time a proper racing series goes there for a long time. I pray that this series goes down under, just so the money making cocks get what they deserve. Ruining sports car racing.

DPsare the wave of the future.

Of NASCAR.

You still have the chance that there will be two rounds of the WEC in N.A. (COTA in Texas and possibly NJ with the F1 street course). And this merger said they still want to keep a tie in with the ACO. Of course that's probably just GTE.

Calm down. They're keeping the ALMS somewhat similar. ALMS would likely not exist, though, if the France family hadn't supported IMSA..................

DPs are not a forward-thinking technology in my mind, they are fast moving bumper cars, as compared to LMPs that are variations of hybrid fuel, technology, etc. And just when LMPC cars are going to be the first in the history of motorsports to use natural gas. You think NASCAR is going to be as enthusiastic about things like electric car racing and natural gas? About the Green X challenge? I mean ALMS has garnered the support of the EPA--a racing series, in conjunction with an environmental agency.

My huge problem with the merger is that ALMS is a forward-thinking form of racing. If the money were there in prototypes especially, it would only get better. Even Corvette is talking about running NG cars. Corvette, one of those cars that waste a gallon of gas when you take off from a stop light.

I REALLY hope ALMS keeps going in that direction, keeps the challenging tracks that don't favor DP cars and Camaros, and looks to the future in all that it does. I'm not a fan of the merger, and I totally get the money corner ALMS is in, so I see why they're doing it. But I don't want to see a Grand-Am style culture influx into the ALMS style of doing things, which would largely set it back IMO.

Anyway on an on-topic note, my internet is down for good until we get our own installed (next week or two hopefully). Sorry, Team Dodge! I want to be there, it's frustrating, but hopefully I'll be back in no time. In the mean time, I'm accepting replacement drivers for the races I'm not there. Got a good car I can send over for the races! Let me know if you're interested if yuo're a reserve and interested in driving the dodge for a week or two.

Looks like you won, what do you need me for? Haha, but heres a good baseline setup that i would normally start with.

ballast
40 to the rear

ride height
F +9
R +10

springs
F 12.0
R 13.5

extension
F 5
R 7

compression
F 4
R 5

roll bar
F 4
R 5

camber
F 0.7
R 0.4

toe
F 0.0
R 0.0

LSD 10/10/10

Brakes F 5, R 7

This gives the car really good turn in while you ease off the brake, i guess you call it trail braking. Camber is low because of GT5's crappy tire wear, toe is more of a user preference thing so i rarely ever used it. I adjusted the ballast to compensate for tire wear mostly, on short tracks like monaco i move it to the rear more and on long/straight ones i move it forward like for monza or le mans. I normally would get the best tire wear with this setup though as long as you ease the car in and out, some tracks i could last a full lap longer than anyone.

Thank you, Thank you!! That was way off from what I was running. Ghs you might want to try this out. Car stays solid in and out of the corners. What are good gt times at indy this week? I'm running 1.33's Is that good? Only had 30 mins of practice this afternoon. I was running-20 ballast, lsd was set at 10/25/10, and ride height was f 2 r0. LOL! Thank you again Kevin!!

:sly:

Glad it works for you, you should notice a slight difference in tire wear as well. Thats as low as i would set the car though, on most tracks i would have it 5-10 clicks higher because of the curbing.

I think thats where I'm at also. I wanna say I got into the high 32's but I honestly cant remember. Everytime I try to get on to tune for Indy I end up tuning another car in my garage instead. I'm showing more love for my standard cars lately. 👍

Just watched Baltimore. :ill:
I'm ready to start brainstorming new names for this series, because I can guarantee you we won't be running under the name ALMS next season.

The tuning in this game is so off with certain things. Higher ride height being one of the things. A lower rear end than the front, GT5 is weird. I just leave things stock and tune from there mostly with the toe angles and the LSD. I don't really mess with springs unless it's an FR. I try stiff springs in the rear to help turn in.

I'm guessing a low 1:33 is pretty good going then? Thus far, I'm on a 1:33.348. I was close to knocking 0.2-0.3 off that too but messed up the turn before the Speedway complex, hence the 1:33.348

Edit~ Uh, oh ummmm. That's with Racing Hards by the way.

LOL Baltimore was pretty...strange.

Doesn't the merger happen in 2014 (meaning regular 2013 ALMS season)? And why don't we try running a classic LM series exclusively next season? Since that's basically what we're doing already. CMS does a classics series on forza. We could do something similar?

Just an idea. I'd like to really give the classic LM thing a try, whether it's this series or another. I just have to wait until I have internet... :ouch:

Soon...

I know why I got 1:33's with Hards. Best test with tyre and fuel depletion on this time. Oops.

Oh goodness. That didn't make much difference at all.

1:33.267 with tyre wear on. And hard tyres.

Oh my god! As long as we set the damn laps for 2 hours and stop there. xD

Oh FH, noticed my times man?

You might upset those PURE guys and their WEC series. I have a 90's LeMans series with those types of cars. R390, CLK LM, McLaren F1 in 'GT1'. C5R, Viper, Jaguar XJ220 LM, NSX LM, Zonda LM, Panoz in GTS. If you guys want to run a sort of classic type of LeMans series, you could use those cars or just combine my series with that. It might gain more interest. I have no problem 'not running' the series. I already have all the cars spec'd and all that.
