First read it in News Of The World. Can't find anything on the web just yet, but here's the first few lines of the story:

Fernando Alonso will join Ferrari next season and so help McLaren pay off a huge chunk of their stunning £50million fine.

The world champion, whose relationship with McLaren boss Ron Dennis has broken down over the spying scandal which shocked Formula One, has agreed a £20m-a-year deal to join the Italian giants.

He will replace Brazilian Felipe Massa and team up with Finland's Kimi Raikkonen - leaving Lewis Hamilton as the No.1 at McLaren.

An Alonso source said : "Fernando know's he can't stay at McLaren after what's happened in the last few weeks."

"Renault, Red Bull and Toyota all made approaches. But Fernando wants to be in a winning car and if it's not McLaren it has to be Ferrari."

when boat starts to sink, the rats are the first ones to leave.. I don't think that this will happen..

All I can say is Ferrari is going to have one hell of a DREAM TEAM!

Frankly I dont blame Alonso, who would want to be in a team that he can longer win the championship in, whos boos he no longer gets along, and whos team and fans pretty much only care about Hamilton.... This is the way it should be with Alonso in a top team and Hamilton top dog at mclaren.

For some odd reason I think the Kimi pairing will work better because they have different styles, with Hamilton they both were the same creating conflict.

This is however my personal opinion...

Ive been a devout mclaren fan and its a pity that its all turned out like this...

For some reason I'm seriously doubting this. I bet a fiver it's a hoax.

For one, Todt wouldn't take his crap and he certainly wouldn't be the Number 1 driver.

Its in the News Of The World. I wouldn't believe any story from them that's not reported anywhere else.

I believe it. It makes perfect sense. Send Alonso to Ferrari, reduce bill by £20m, hire someone to kill Alonso, job done, happy Ron. :mischievous:

Alonso would rather return to Renault then Ferrari methinks + Ferrari already got contracts with Kimi and Massa for next year, or so I've heard...

Not happening.

Perhaps only if Massa swaps with Alonso. Personally, I can't see this coming to light.

Hamilton and Massa have been awful chummy so I wouldn't be surprised if Massa wanted to go to McLaren, especially since rumour has it that Todt (who supposedly prefers Massa over Kimi) will be leaving soon.

Also, McLaren's performance usually goes from one extreme to the other every other year or so. So maybe Fernando is trying to cut his losses.

However, Kimi and Fernando together? Would be a great way to find out once and for all who is the better driver, but I honestly can't see it happening.

I still think he will be going to Renault next year to be the number one with Nelson Piquet jr. playing a supporting role. (Kovalainen to McLaren :))

I doubt we'd find out, since Ferrari is the benchmark of #1 and #2 drivers.

McLaren don't have No. 1 drivers.
And that is the stupidest logic a racing team can use. Two drivers, neither with any preference will have two identical cars, again without preference. They are prefectly, evenly matched ... but when you get to the first corner, there's only one racing line. And since the drivers are created equal by the team, neither will yield to the other when they get there.

Bah! What crap story is this? I don't mean to be rude but since when Alonso agreed to join Ferrari? For all i know he may not even have a seat next year! But if the rumor is true, hah! Its going to make Ferrari look bad. :mischievous: and lets hope Hamilton can prove that he is the best, without a world champion by his side (and even team up with Nico Rosberg! *faints in disbelief*)

how can they drop massa? :(
If Alonso wins the world title, he could be reigning triple world champion and looking for a drive. Why would they not drop Massa in favour of Alonso?

No offense to Massa but his a bit like Barrichello. Without Ferrari he wouldnt be much at all. People winged about how Barrichello was #2 to MS and how he deserved better.. the way i see it he only won what he did because ferrari hired him, if he didnt go then he would be where he is now. Take away Ferrari and Barrichello is well, coming last. Same would happen to massa. His a great driver for sure, being in F1 he has to be, but he doesnt stand out amongst the crowd, his just one luckily enough to be in a Ferrari. you could put half - 2/3 the field in a Ferrari and they would do what barrichello/Massa did/does, but how many could do what MS done? As for the actual topic, i dont think thats true.

Quick note: I've editted the thread title (to incorporate a question mark) since it's factually misleading to omit it. As yet, Alonso moving to Ferrari is pure speculation and therefore the thread title should reflect this.

The News of the World isn't widely regarded as a reliable source for F1 news. Or any news come to think of it.

I agree. I once read a book about a dog that used Scrabble bits to communicate in English with its keepers. I believe that about as much as I believe anything from (Alternate) Views Of the World.

If this is in fact true and Massa will not be with Ferrari next year then I will be wishing so much evil on Alonso next year. Though this will all probably be some sensationalized story just to get everyone stirred up.
