Am I the only person who hates the rallying?

Well, one mistake and you spend the rest of the race playing catch up. Thats usually when I get frustrated and start to drive like my girlfriend.

lol, true. GT4 does it tremendous good to get one frustrating. But that's what i like guys. You must concentrate like hell in those hard rallys.

I love the Rally events. I'll honestly take my RS200 Road car, and just do the hard rally courses over and over for money. :)
I've even gone and started collecting all the road editions of the rally cars, playing around with them, finding out which ones are fun to drive, and seeing how well they do against the Lancer and Subaru, and Lancia rally cars you compete against under Hard.
Basically, playing with the rally courses has become my prescription for when I need a brake from drifting or racing, and nothing is more full filling than watching the replays from a rally event you feel you did good in. 👍

Not a big fan of it either, try driving with the DFP you will hate it even more.

5 laps of Chamonix, or Grand Canyon? Come on. The 5 second penalty, which is a good idea to an extent (otherwise everybody would be bouncing off walls left and right in an 850HP Skyline or something), is awarded way too often. Two particuarly aggravating instances include when the AI is blocking half the track and I can't overtake them, or when I just barely brush the wall. And let's not forget if you take a turn too wide and the AI car happens to be there! Two of these in a row, and the AI car is gone.

Despite these annoyances, rally racing can be pretty fun at times.

Exactly! The AI makes a mistake or decides to suddenly break on a straight, as usual, and BANG, you hit him. And suprise suprise, you get the penalty. :grumpy: The Grand Canyon in particular. 👎

getting a gold on the s-license test on chamonix was a *****.

i think they should keep the tracks like citta di aria, but they might as well ditch the dirt and snow. i'd rather have more real circuits or something.

NO No NO the 5 Second Rule is the gayest thing i've ever heard of....sooooo gay...come on who's going to slow down for 5 seconds in a real race? i know that if u hit these walls in a real race then you would go through them but the 5 second rule kills everything...but otherwise that i love rally...

videogame adict
IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT FIND ANOTHER GAME! Have you ever watched rally races before? All the cars DO handle like the ones in GT4.I'd know i'v rented a rally car for a day and gone on one of the tracks. All you need to know is how to turn! It's not that hard.

Right 👍

I tried my brothers' Impreza on snow - I tried my car on snow - I tried GT4 Impreza on snow - NO Difference - Great GT4 physics. I use the same technique on real car and GT4 car and You say it is not real?
CM compared to GT4? no way!

Rally AI is bad, but not GT4 physics.

I've just posted a video in my Video thread
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?p=1642881#post1642881
check it and then say GT4 rally physics is not real :)

I HATE rallying.

The one thing I hate the most is that they spent so much time on making great looking rally maps while they could have made the perfect road racing game if they put that time into other aspects.

I couldn't say how realistic it is, but it seems to me that even with dirt or snow tires, you're not gonna get much traction on dirt or snow.
I did find the rally races in GT4 a LOT harder than the ones in GT3, and I had to ride the crap out of the walls in a lot of them.

Praise the Lord!!!!! Someone said it!!!! Rallying is a CHORE!!!! Wake up PD, this is Gran Turismo. If I want to rally, I'll buy a rallying game. Too bad no one at PD is listening to the fans who actually buy the game. Don't even get me started on the Mission Hall events!!!

dont mind the rally races myself. gotta admit tho that the sealed road races are faves.
citta di aria is one of my fav tracks in the entire game :)

Ive knocked out a couple of the HARD races....Its still frustrating. What kills me most, is the computer "getting into the line" and hitting me causing the 5 sec. penalty. I try to race fair but the computer will force a bump and I get to watch him race off 👎

My avatar explains my emotion on these HARD rallys

Why do you think rally cars in real life don't drive with 2 on the same track? They race time trials. With rallying you don't drive clean lines, so that means you're only able to pass opponents on the straights, which is nearly impossible when up against the fastest rally cars. It's ridiculous the way it's implemented in this game, if you can't do it right then just don't do it. Don't put rally races in my gran turismo god damnit!!!

The real bad thing is the 5 second penalty.
I spun 180 degrees and stopped, watched the A1 drive into me and I cop the penalty, go figure.
Also in the narrow Italian track "Cost me another controller" or similar sounding name in reverse the A1 take the uphill jump at full pelt and hit the wall about 10 feet up and keep going. If you are following at the same speed you hit the wall but get the penalty.
Rally sucks in GT4.

Firstly videogame addict, I've actually got 100% in the game, completed, done, the lot. Did all the rallying WITHOUT cheating. And I still hate that damn rallying! I paid the money I'm entitled to think what I like of the game - which is love the circuit racing, hate the rallying... and judging from the postings here, I'm not alone in that :)

I ended up doing a simple technique to beat the tracks 1. Use the 206 rally car (the 600+ BHP monster that gives the escudo a run for it's money) 2. Throw it into every corner so the back of the car hits the wall, thus avoiding penalties. 3. use it's superior acceleration to get me the hell out of there!

Doing this, even on hard meant I was winning by 30+ seconds... easy. But what the hell is so realistic about that???

I wouldn't mind if the cars actually drifted round corners... they don't. Even at low speeds, they refuse to respond to brakes, turning or anything else. They just crunch into the nearest wall, and end of story.

Between the lack of point to point, the Godawful AI, the 5 second penalties, and cars that seem pretty much the same regardless of which you choose, I just think they should scrap it. If you want rallying, go buy a rally game!

After all, it's the "real driving simulator", not the "real rallying simulator"

Come to think of it, what's so damn realistic about tsukuba wet? Don't they MAKE rain tyres for race cars anymore..???

I actually preferred (hugely!) the circuit tracks in special conditions to the rally tracks... Citta D'Aria, is actually great fun... but it's not a rally track is it? I call that as a street track, something maybe PD could do more of in 5 instead of their utterly boring rallying...

(And to put another nail in the coffin, I didn't even use a rally car on Citta... I started off on easy using the Tuning car R34 Golf, and (having earned enough cash) eventually switched to a tuned up Buick Special... totally destroying the rally cars on hard..!)

Oddly enough one of the few rally cars that actually handled was the Mitsubishi Pajero (the old one) - tuned up, I found it extremely useful on the snow circuit, as the peugeot lost traction badly on tarmac at speeds above a mind blowing... 30mph.

Alternatives to rallying? well how about drag racing. A genuine touring car special conditions series instead. Hot rod racing. Indycar racing. Karting. NASCAR. Hell even truck racing, or monster trucks would add a bit of light relief from time to time!!! I'd love to take a race-tuned Kenworth around Laguna Seca... or how about a kart???

All of which seems an awful lot more fun than 5 laps of the grand canyon, with 5 second penalties for daring to drive faster than 29MPH...

Hi Ving! :)

Glad to hear it... thing is, if it's only supposed to be tarmac rallying, why allow people to use whatever car they like? Kind of defeats the point of it being a rally, doesn't it?
Yet another reason, the rallying just... *makes vacuum cleaner noises* ;)

not really FTB... oh and hi back! :)

here in oz (sorry but dont know where you are from), we have a rally in tasmania that is not part of the ARC (aust rally champ) where you can drive just about any car you like. there have been monaros, porsches, evos, old RWD cars, new FWD cars... just about anything...
its a huge event over here.

targa tasmania.

LOL. You all whiners learn how to drive and stop complaining that rallying is crap.

The physics are extremely close to real life. Do you really think that driving fast a 300 BHP car on gravel or ice is easy? (not to mention a +600 BHP one) It requires a lot of skill.

I did all the races in the special conditions hall with stock cars (only tuning was to turn off the TCS & ASM):

Easy- Lancer Evo III
Normal- Impreza STI Prodrive Style
Hard- Impreza Rally Car '02

It is not about power, it is about skill.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I play GT4 with the DFP.
