grandstanders.
For some reason this reminded me of the several times I went to NHRA events as a kid. Grandstands full of shirtless alcoholics and their over-tanned wives who definitely should not be wearing tank tops. They rode a Harley fatboy to the race, parked in a grass lot, and got stuck on the way out. One time, I was washing my hands in the round trough sink and some old guy walked in, presented himself, and started pissing in the sink right in front of a maybe 15 year old kid, not sure how old I was. Like two feet away from my hands, drunker'n a skunk.

These are the people who vote Republican.

The problem with the GOP is that the functional parts of it are terrified by the grandstanders.
And with the death threats, can you really blame them? I mean tough tits--they cultivated and coddled the crazy for a controlling stake and now they get to cozy on up with it.

That pretty much is the long and short of it. If you invite a vampire into your house you can't really start complaining if they decide to bite you.

Jim Jordan appears to have lost vote #3 since he could only lose 5 votes and he's now lost 7.

I admire his determination but he is literally going to die on this hill.

Looks like it’s 194 for Jordan and 210 for Jeffries. But remember it’s the unified Democrat’s fault, not the disorganized Republican’s fault.

GOP did a closed door vote on whether to keep Gymbo as the nominee and a majority voted no. So they are going to start over on Monday from scratch, apparently.

I don't think the house can select a speaker without it being someone that has moderate support on both sides of the aisle. Talk about death threats though...there's gonna be blood in the water from the Gaetz brigade if that happens.

I think the biggest takeaway here is that the GOP has become truly rudderless, at least in the house. McCarthy wasn't a strong leader, but one could make an argument that he was respected by the house Majority. With Scalise unable to secure the job, and Jordan clearly unfavorable to many, it seems that the GOP is so fractured that it is not capable of being led. I genuinely wonder if the conference will split into it's constituent parts - the Republican Party and the Freedom Party.

It is a good thing that they sort of set up a SOP while doing this stupid circus show, but Gaetz should be fired out of a cannon into the sun if this dysfunction causes the government to shut down (at least Gaetz).

Is this Emmer guy the kind of Speaker Democrats can get behind? It sounds like he has too much respect for marriage (regardless of the sexes of the participants) for some Republicans to.

He voted to certify the results of the 2020 election, so maybe - but the MAGAs won't.

But at the same time, he also supported Texas v. Pennslyvania, which contested the election results.

Emmer also, at one time, supported allowing people with DUIs to drive or get their license back sooner and referred to climate science as "Gore Porn".

I can't see many, if any, Democrats supporting this guy. There were also, supposedly, 26 Republicans that voted no on him, meaning he'd lose worse than Jordan did.

Mike Johnson is an evangelical Christian and so against homosexuality that I'm going to guess it's only a matter of time before he's caught in an airport bathroom with a dude. He's going to receive precisely 0 support from Democrats and I wouldn't be surprised if some more moderate conservatives don't like him either.

They really should just draw names out of a hat. Or, they should create a rule that if the House cannot manage to function as a unit, all elected members must go to a special election.

I think the writing's on the wall for this one too if Elise Stefanik throws her endorsement his way

At least maybe now the House can actually get on with the business of keeping the government from shutting down. I'm not confident they'll do anything remotely meaningful, but I can at least hope. Also, I really hope this doesn't come back to bite America during the 2024 elections since Johnson is a known election denier.

Yet sits in a Congress he and his ilk should be decrying as illegitimate.

Lying, fraudulant maggots. Incidentally the three qualities needed to be a Republican.
