1st slot-America, started P2, ended up 10 because the 919 crowd have no respect when you trying to turn in Toyota, seriously, the few in Toyota with me were going off on them in chat too, im going again because i cant go out like that
Glad it was not only me. But I still don't regret choosing it, it's the car of the moment and I like to go against what everyone else is driving, as long as it's viable.

They also made this Toyota significantly faster in game than in real life as we can see in Le Mans.

Slot 1:

Surprised myself by qualifying P2 with a rather sloppy first lap (and one where I actually depleted my battery too early due to botching the end of my warmup lap). I briefly fell to P3 before completing my next lap and jumping back up to P2, which is where my final qualifying position would be, 0.8s off pole.

At the start of the race, unsurprisingly the pole-sitter easily gapped me, and I also built a comfortable cushion over 3rd place...until I spun myself in the middle of the final 2 chicanes because i turned in to the first one too early :dunce:. My 8+ second gap was down to under 1s, but I somehow managed to avoid losing a spot. From there, I grew the gap out again to about 6s when I picked up a penalty exiting the Porsche Curves on the final lap, then tip-toed through the chicanes to avoid a repeat of earlier, and finished where I started in 2nd for 279 points, over 17s behind the winner, and a little over 4s ahead of 3rd. That makes 2 2nd-place finishes in 2 attempts in Nation's so far this season.

Also, there were 3 GR010s in the race, and they finished in the bottom 3 spots...

Disastrous session tonight. All 3 quali attempts were ruined by other guys because I was using new Toyota and that was creating all kinds of disbalance with speed: much faster on straights, very much slower in turns, especially Porsche curves which was recipe for disaster.

First blind attempt, 5m before start without prep ended being best one, started 6th, had pace for 3rd but was rammed before Porsche curves which created back side damage and was not able to slow down for it even with 3 gears down, ended up in sand.

I wasn't going to settle for 10th or something, after all I won in this damn car in Toyota Cup just last week.

In all 3 attempts I had pace for top 3-5 but it was always ruined in one daylight lap, I could not drive that fast in dark. In race, you get them on straights, they ram you in turns, ruining everything.

Ended up quiting all 3 and I did massive revenge ram, 3rd attempt on random guy because I couldn't get to Italian who destroyed me earlier.

Oh well, very sad evening but I'm trying to console myself thinking I won on this track with this car last week, it's not me.

Not to be that guy, but like in qualifying, you could have waited over 1 minute in the pits, have a clean track and get the same 3 flying laps as everyone else. I have it as my priority in GTWS qualifyings to get a clean track ahead of me, usually I am the last one or 2nd to last one to leave the pits.

Another frustrating round in Nations. I am not too bad at Le Mans, but have trouble making penalty free laps. The cockpit view in Group 1 cars is pretty restrictive, combine that with strict track limits and darkness and it's a recipe for frustration. My first go round in the 11pm NA slot, I qualify P13, but I jump the curb on the 1st chicane on lap 1 and spin. I ride around the rest of the race and finish P13.

I try again in the final slot, not a great start in P10, but after some incidents I get up to P7. I'm running consistent laps and avoiding penalties, and make my stop on lap 6. Coming out of the pits I make another pass for P6, then suddenly boom "Session Ended". Second time this has happened to me this season. Even though I am nowhere near top split it is still very frustrating.

Thing is, by the lap 2 it was already dark so you're not doing yourself any favours waiting 1m in pit. But trust me, I had significant daylight in all my attempts, it just happened that I eventually catch them, either by just being faster or them making a mistake, and they ruin my lap. Always hated how PD does qualifying, just let me show how fast I can be without this stupid headache I have to endure all the time.

This is NOT the way to play, no matter what game it is. Bad move right there 👎
Agree, felt bad afterwards, especially to fellow UK flag. But it was not just Italian, it was accumulation of all the ramming and punting I endured in all three races because I'm in Toyota that does terribly in corners. You can only take so much bullying before you start to dish some of that yourself. It was, sort of, send off to a terrible GT evening.

Okay I hear you. Yeah seemed like at Le Mans everybody rushed to get a good lap in before the darkness. But then again, Le Mans is really not the most technical of race tracks, so I don't really see darkness as a massive issue there. I even improved my best practice time by 0,6 secs in complete darkness, lap 4 in qualifying. I also used the yellow corner apex markers as additional help due to darkness.

GTWS 2022 Season 1 round 3 participation numbers*

Given the sales numbers, this does seem to indicate a very low percentage of players participating in Sport mode.

Not surprising that the desires of the Sport mode fraternity seem often ignored. :indiff:

Finally got a good room in the finally slot. A lot of messy divers in earlier attempts plus a game freeze in the 2nd slot. Wish I got more time to feel this car out but happy to finished P3. 1st and 2nd blew the whole field away...

How do these numbers compare to gt sport online? This seems low to me.

Just as one point of reference, Manufacturers 2021 Season 2 had 19,000 people score 1 point or more in EMEA alone. So the participation numbers are way down on GT Sport.

EDIT - Should say that that's participation for the entire season, not just 1 round as shown above for this season. It still gives an idea though.

If it's for the season then that's less of a gap. Especially considering gt sport at the end versus gt7 a few months in. People still doing café, etc... But I do feel more needs to be done to encourage players to play sport mode and enjoy the experience

I was expecting more of a fanfare about it. The official season was announced with less than 48 hours notice, and the ongoing connection issues certainly don't help.

It's a shame PD aren't making more noise about it. If you don't check the news page or a sub menu in Sport Mode (and only 16% of players have completed a Sport Mode race), you'd probably not even know the GTWS existed.

It feels like it needs something front and centre to tell people what's going on.

Agree 100% more fanfare, more avenues to do online races. maybe creating an iracing style mx5 series (begginer league) to help get people into online racing? Maybe a more arcade style physics (stronger ghosting, less disruption for contact, better grip off track?) I think people would enjoy online racing even without winning if the racing was clean and they felt that getting better was worthwhile.

Delayed update from the weekend. Finished 3rd for 150 points.

Attempt 1 - I was one of  those guys in a 919 that punted a Toyota in qualifying. Apologised via message and would go on to have a fun race later with the puntee. An honest apology goes a long way! Ultimately qualified 12th and would finish 6th. Felt I could do better.

Attempt 2 - black screen for a while resulted in 10 entrants. Qualified 7th and then had a freeze. Another attempt needed.

Attempt 3 - qualified 2nd. Finished 3rd. Should have finished 2nd here. Was 3rd approaching the final chicane, got punted through it and finished 4th but then moved to 3rd due to P2 not pitting. The guy who punted me said it was ok because someone else punted him earlier in the race. Logic checks out.

Overall happy enough with the result and enjoyed this race.

Indeed, what's the source for this?
PD. It's from the data they use for their result lists on the official site https://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/gt7/sportmode/championship

Currently there are 12580 users listed in the data for EMEA Manufacturers. 1740 are in GT1, 4006 in GT2 and 6834 in GT3.

It's completely meaningless in the long run but I'd be interested to know the % of controller/wheel users in each split. I know that's data we can't get but I think it'd be a fun thing for us to know.

I think you'd be surprised at how many thumb pilots are in A-A+. Wheels and rigs are large and spendy
Maybe! I am one of the A+ thumb pilots after all lol. I can definitely believe that it's a pretty high percent for GT.

I'd probably use the wheel every now and then but mine is an xbox compatible thrustmaster one and I aint shelling out £90 for a drivehub.

Sardegna A in the new Suzuki. Slot 1, Asia (2nd split I think).

I didn’t have great pace in FP so no high hopes here. Strong lobby lowered expectations even further.

Qualified 12/15. Kept making little mistakes and couldn’t get within 6 tenths of my best FP time.

The grid start was messy and I tried to brake early, stay wide and keep away from trouble. Incredibly no one died at T1 and I exited DFL.

Cue several laps of running at the back of a long cue but not losing touch. Made a couple of places on laps 4 and 5 as cars clipped walls/ each other. By lap 6 I was p12 but soon lost a spot to a recovering car that was much quicker.

Entering lap 9 and I was focused on holding p13. As I approached the final turn for the second last time, a gaggle of cars ahead had bunched up and then, chaos. One of the leaders had hit the wall on exit and the group ahead had driven into the back of him and each other. I managed to avoid all contact and cruise up the inside to p10. P9 had a 2 second penalty as well.

Just managed to keep everything neat for one more lap and crossed the line in p9. A really fun race but lower splits will be absolute carnage.

189 points. One and done.

Had a go at the Nations round at Sardegna. Got 5 or 6 laps in prior to the lobby. Felt slow, but reasonably stable in the car. Joined as was in the back of the pack, which I was fine with. Qualified p14 of 15. Race started and made a couple of spots with messy driving. People keep drifting wide and bumping and somehow I'm suddenly in p9. Make a pass for p8 and I'm in way over my head.

Trying to hold my best but really holding most people up. I screw up the sweeping left near the end and as 1 car gets by the next blows the braking zone and punts me wide, using me to make the corner. I get dropped to p12 and my steady mistakes getting squirrelly on turn exits get me with the last 2 on my rear. Eventually Eventually get by and I lap it out. 1 quitter leaves p14, where I started.

Not all bad. I was too messy to really do any better, but had hopes for a better finish after the starting chaos. I made free spots from mistakes by the guy who punted me in a race A couple of weeks ago so karma evened out.

Good luck all and be steady on the turn exits.

True but a G29 set is not that expensive. But yeah I myself stay off the expensive Fanatec stuff as well 😅
Agreed, and it seems there are many wheels for sale on marketplace these days. I think as the pandemic ends and people start to socialize again. Sim rigs might be collecting dust. Personally I can't barely get my friends and family to try my setup, much less buy one.

That Nations Race was quite fun. Qualified P2 with a 1:52.4 in a B/S Lobby.

I had a great start and was some tenths ahead before the first corner. Idiot that I am, I started breaking at the usual breaking point (so way too early for standing start) an caused quite a pileup that I left last, but only 8s behind the leader.
I made my way back through the field to finish P4 (only 2s behind P2 and P3, and 18s behind the leader)

Race was fun, but as it is still 🔥 I took my P4 and 65 points and called it a day.
