Am I the only person experiencing problems with the Pagani Huayra? Even with "auto clutch" option on, the cars bangs on the limiter between shifts and the shifts themselves take about 4 seconds!

I need to tell my story while that glorious experience is still fresh.

First off, I think I've found my reason for living. I shall invent a time machine, go back to about 1965-70, get born somehow, and grow up with the will to drive in whatever touring car series the 3 group A cars in assetto corsa would have driven in.

Between group a Mercedes, BMW, and Alfa, I loved all three. Set up a full race weekend at nurburgring gp-gt and started qualifying with BMW. (Remembered it from pcars fondly) while I still really liked it, I thought I'll see how fast the Alfa is. Alfa=much faster but much harder to drive. Okay. So Mercedes. (Keep in mind I've restarted the weekend each time to switch cars) this time around, I set up the car a tiny bit, get going about 3 seconds behind a pesky beemer, and 5 laps of practice later, about 2.9 seconds behind a pesky beemer (on hard, but I think the AI for these cars is a bit easier than other classes). Eventually, my persistence won the battle as the ameteur beemer driver locked up the brakes on the chicane and I was able to bring the gap to "I'm right behind him". Eventually working my way around, I think wow, that was great racing! And then I realize I still have 2 minutes left in my practice session.

All in all, that bit of battling felt very similar to pcars. That's what I liked about pcars were those close little battles in the best car class ever. However, this just felt slightly better to drive than pcars. And when you think that i have a t500 wheel+ps4, it was so much more reliable to drive than pcars (not having to unplug-plug in wheel 20 times per session). And on top of that, the tiniest details I was changing on the car, I could feel and notice while driving. I remember in pcars where I would change an entire setup of a car and not notice the difference.

I genuinely hope each and every one of you can have as much fun as i just did. Didn't even get to qualifying.

Yes. You are still driving the old version on consoles if i'm not mistaken, on PC AI behavior was recently updated so that will be done to the consoles too, and they also confirmed that they are looking at the difficulty balancing (easy being too hard).

Let's hope so. If I'm honest, I haven't even bothered to attempt any of the racing event because I just can't deal with crappy AI. I'll stick to the hot laps until the update lands, otherwise happy to turn to PCars for racing and keep Assetto as my "hot lap" game

I prefer the updated AI in AC above the one in PCARS, they are fast but do a lot less banzai moves and try to avoid contact. In PCARS they often turn 'Maldonado'.

There are some really good racing to be done with the AI. You simply need to experiment a bit. Take the old DTM cars for example, they are great with the AI put on Alien. The AI is really decent in this class and don't let Alien scare you, they are not that fast in this class.

I love that the epic battle you describe was just in practice - brilliant. I totally know what you mean.
And it's great that such niche titles like this are getting console releases. I hope it doesn't crash and burn sales-wise.

Lots of grumbles about the fact they 'forgot' to put an actual game in, but sod that - there was a time where you were forced to put in all that extra crap to justify being published. Not any more, and that is a great thing.

Viva Assetto Corsa!

Not sure why they made it not so alike. The one during this period is way similar. But thats a big problem isn't it ?

@jm79 take a look at the one here.

I actually think the Sakitto track is the original Suzuka from the 60's or something like that.

Anyone bought the console season pass? Seems a bit steep tbh.
But then I'm still not quite reconciled to the idea of season passes anyway...

I am a bit in the same boat as you. For the moment I am not in a hurry to buy the season pass. I must note that I like this game very much that I might consider buying the season pass in the future.

Let's see what the patches are going to bring and afterwards I'll make my mind up about it.

I had been praying Assetto Corsa would kick butt on console. As a PC player, I have nothing to lose and only things to gain by its success on the console market. For months I was sacrificing chickens to the Computer Gods, asking for great sales numbers.

For some reason, when the numbers come out, I have a really bad feeling the numbers aren't going to be very great. :nervous: The delay and then f'ed up game that was published at release... Between here and a few other places I was seeing Assetto Corsa get criticized so much, and in many ways deservedly so, that so many Americans were saying "Oh man...So glad I didn't bother pre-ordering it. What a waste that would have been."

Now, I totally get the percentage of gamers who visit forums like these make up a small percentage of the game market - but it is still a sampling. When you hear Presidential Poll numbers, they have usually asked perhaps 1000 people and usually the actual numbers end up being pretty darn close. +/- 3 points in either direction, usually. Anyway, once Gran Turismo Sport comes out, if the physics are even halfway as good as Assetto Corsa's a ton of AC players will bail just because GT is GT. Even if GTS's "game" portion is lackluster, they'll get the numbers because so is AC's Career Mode!

And for the vast majority of console players interested in racing titles, but don't want to, or have the time to read forums like the ones I visit, if they read the Week 1 reviews the vast majority of those said "AC sucks! Controller support sucks! Career Mode sucks! AI is absolutely impossible to beat!" That last one is going to scare away a huge number of casuals. Oh yeah, and you can't put on your own aftermarket rims or put a turbo and awful sounding muffler on cars lowered down to the ground. More things casuals believe make a game good or not. :grumpy: I hope I'm wrong...Even if the numbers are good, but not great, that could be a huge win for Kunos -- I've got to go sacrifice another chicken.

Poor chickens!

You know, thinking about this, I think they got their marketing all wrong here. Those shiny, expensive-looking trailers seemed to make out that it was basically a Gran Turismo style game. If they had pushed it more directly as a 'proper' simulator, and as a result of it being proper, it was amazingly fun to drive, then it wouldn't be getting the hate it has. Because, you know, that's true.

Contrast to Dirt Rally - which from the moment i heard it being mentioned, it was spoken of as 'difficult', more 'sim-like' but as a direct result of that, amazingly fun to drive, then no-one was confused on release, and it got a great reception.

Now I'm not saying the games are comparable in terms of content/polish, but there are certain similarities in their core philosophy and stripped-down aesthetic.

Make it clear what you are + don't promise something you can't deliver = generally everyone is happy.

There's a few people on here saying PCars is arcade and quite a few on PCars forum saying AC is flawed and arcade... I disagree with both, why can't some people just enjoy both games, or at least enjoy one but leave other people to enjoy what they chose? Why this awful hostility?
What is wrong with people?
Insecurity. First you've dropped money on a console, then added a new wheel... No one wants to feel that they've made a mistake so you get that sort of response. Its silly, just because you've bought one doesn't mean you're not allowed to buy the other..

Try race weekend. Single make with a car and track you like. Start on hard and progress to alien if it's a road car. Your guess is as good as mine if it's a race car..

Both are arcade...compared to reality. MWHOAAHAHAHAH! (ok, too much coffee)

Nailed it!
I wonder how much of that was 505games.
DiRT rally has to of been the most honest game I've played in years, and with no DLC you can either look at it like they have not bothered to do DLC, or look at it like they gave us everything they had in one go...
I believe in the latter. Good on them i say.
It' pretty clear to me that AC could have come with all the cars from PC version but they withheld them for DLC reasons. We maybe be used to that by now, but doesn't make it right.

I tried yesterday special events.. it's me or are they even harder than career? Damn hotlaps require some serious skills, races are on Alien and drift medals start from 100k. The conclusion is that i suck a lot.

It found it very hard and difficult as well. I drove the hell out of the AMG at Zandvoort but only just managed bronze. I think (no promise) I focus on it for the coming week to see if it is possible at all to get somewhere near silver.

None of the trailers had anything about "collect, customize, and upgrade" in them. The message about it being more sim than game has been communicated to the point where people can't blame marketing for their misunderstandings.

I know what you're saying, but the trailers had that general GT style - nice music, lots of slo-mo, very very slick looking.

It doesn't communicate the very dry and stripped down 'feel' of the game, in the same way as the Dirt Rally stuff did, I think. I know it isn't clear-cut or anything, but for me, it seemed misleading.

This is not taking away anything at all from the driving experience, it's second-to-none, and I am loving it. I am merely talking about the general critical reception, and how that creates expectations in the punters of a sub-par experience.

I will try this too, see how bad I am!

Yup, i bought the season pass already!
Even with the little letdown of the non inclusion of the private lobby's on launch i really know what type of game i buyed, cause i tried the AC PC version.

So I'm pretty confident in those Italian (and one Greek) guys and they got my full support.

Sure that game will improve and getting better just like the PC version.
Now i just have to wait until the release of the Japanese DLC, red pack and the 3 Porsche DLC's. And that's just the beginning..

Don't mention multiplayer trols... Last night full lobby GT3@Spa, everyone decent except one guy who kept waiting on every lap crashing anyone he could - so I saved video of his "action", just don't know how and where can I report him?
