Well ProjectCARS certainly is a different kind of fun. Think I played 3 or 4 hours on it tweaking the wheel, sensitivity, trying to find what I feel similiar to Assetto Corsa. Feedback aint far off, certainly not as detailed as Assetto Corsa. PCARS is ridiculously grippy. My beloved R8 LMS Ultra, its oversteering all over the circuit with nearly the power pinned everywhere. It's crazy!
In Assetto Corsa it happens to suffer a lot of understeer but the traction control sorts that out. Was surprised there was none on the PCARS R8 LMS Ultra. Was also surprised how poor the stock gearbox more so 6th was on Assetto Corsa. PCARS is quite race-y. Silly grip though. :/

Not loving the speedo this game has or lack of.

I wish, really really wish Abu Dhabi International was in Assetto Corsa. That track is lovely!

I was also looking at the cockpit adjustments as well as the field of view settings then thinking this is disgusting. None of it in the console Assetto Corsa. Up, down, seat tilt... Let alone forgetting about the customized hud and telemetry. Oh and the photo mode! A bit basic but does the job. Shame there is no tilt but it was gorgeous for the sunset at Abu Dhabi.

Think I'm going to spend somemore time tweaking PCARS. Granted its no Assetto Corsa as that feeling is so lush but I'm so sick of the lack of options online. Its breaking my heart.

May I ask why you didn't post this in Project CARS forum section? I get that you're comparing it to AC, but I think your impressions are better suited for discussion over there.

Why not? Its lacking these serious missing items. After all, some used to mention why they were slower in Assetto Corsa versus PCARS as I can understand with the insane grip.

If you're talking about the stock gearbox for the LMS then I'd say pCARS' is worse. There's only a few options for final drive, and the individual gear sliders are utterly useless as they can only be moved in one notch increments which do nothing useful as all, unless you want to get rid of 1st gear. This gear setup is in so many of the cars in pCARS and I don't get it. If it's realistic then that's absolutely fine for me and I'll eat my hat, but it looks to me like gearing options are off in that game.

I've also been driving the R8 LMS in both games recently and to me it's a lot more fun in AC. More visceral. Firstly the sound in pCARS is awful. The engine seems to cut out whenever you change gears. Very odd. But in terms of grip then yeah, there's a lot of it in AC, but the weird thing about pCARS (and this is a trait on a lot of cars) is that to me it feels like when you are at the limit of grip, and the car starts to slide, it's like the car is turning from the middle of the chassis, as if the front wheels are under your seat, instead of from the front. People said this of the Shift games and I think it's there to some degree in pCARS. Coupled with a distinct lack of feeling of car weight it makes everything seem very strange to me after playing AC for months.

I think to go back and forth between the 2 games will highlight oddities in them both, but as you say, if you're into online racing pCARS is probably the place to be.

Now I did have some epic 30-car races round Road America and Bathurst the other night so I'm not bashing it, it's still a lot of fun. Hoping for big things from pCARS2 though.

Its just a shame we can never get it all. Good and bad in both games but never a complete package. I still prefer Assetto Corsa though. I missed the lovely throaty gargly sounds right away when I was in PCARS. Nothing comes close to Assetto Corsa's thumps and bangs in the backfires. Especially those turbo sounds and all the subtle tones they have.

Strange though at times how Project CARS reminds me of Shift and traits of Codemasters. Cannot say I like that feeling of Codemasters. Some of the external effects and reflection/shine on the cars is quite cheap that it reminds me of Codemasters engine. Assetto Corsa's replays look quite a bit better on replays. It just lacks the deeper shadows and atmosphere effects which makes it look richer in contrast.

Though from what I've seen on Youtube, the PC videos of Assetto Corsa's internals of the cars have deeper shadows? Sacrificed for performance on the consoles?

I also noticed how silly you can ramp down the gearbox in PCARS. Didn't like that at all.

Does anyone else have this happen to them every single time they try to race the AI in GT3 cars @ Nords? It's utterly ridiculous. There's one kerb that kills the AI time after time. Other classes are fine, although some do still hit this kerb, but none crash out as spectacularly as the GT3 cars. I can restart then the same thing happens again. Every single time. Afterwards the cars teleport back to the pits and their race is over. Will post these vids on the official forum ASAP.

That last video was a real "brown trousers" moment lol! Well avoided sir!

But @bleeder is it all GT3 cars? or just Nissan GTR specific? (As your replay only has the Nissans in a one make race). But whatever, it's obviously a glitch! :)

Yeah I'm proud of those avoidance skills lol.

I have a video from several weeks ago where I was driving the 458 GT2 against same class and it happened then too. I had a response from a PC player on the official forum who says it's a known issue on the PC side and has been like it for a while. Doesn't sound promising. Surely an AI behaviour fix is possible in these cases.

I've just been diving into PCARS. Haven't played it much but geez. Barcelona I do not recognise at all. Its all super tight and feeling small. Little elevation. Feels like a glorified karting track trying to emulate Barcelona. The turns feel so sharp. The lack of brake feedback. Has Assetto Corsa spoiled me?
Sounds more like difference in FOV to me.

Yes, the pCARS version of Barcelona isn't perfect, but it's not THAT bad.

Been off for over a month! What did I miss? Bought the season pass and tried out a few porsches. Any recommendations for me to try now that I've quit playing ark and I'm back on AC?

Finally got round to trying out the online tonight and it was actually not bad. Saw a few incidents but nothing major, survived every first corner, but even those were relatively incident-free.

Something I noticed a lot of was the yellow flag popping up to be followed by 'so-and-so has disconnected'. On the whole quite fun, won a couple of races but due to cars ahead dropping out. I don't get why no one uses tyre warmers at the start of a race in the relevant classes, but it's good to see AC has decent grip levels with cold tyres at least. Annoying how you can't save tweaked setups in this mode, and that you can't see how much fuel is needed per lap. Private lobbies would obviously be a much better situation, hopefully a matter of weeks away.

Yes, Barcelona isn't one of the most accurate tracks in Pcars for sure...

For The rest.... I'm playing a lot Pcars due the racing leagues that I'm participating in..

Today i went back to Assetto a while and did a quick race against the AI in nurburgring GT...i really couldn't finished the race due the very bad framerate stuttering... Men...i didn't notice before how bad it really is (16 cars on track)
Even with 30 cars on track in Pcars the game goes smoothly in framerate.. Very Rarely i see little stuttering.

I always play with headphones... And...The sound of Assetto are still glitched, and in the IU there still the issue that you hear the sound only trough one chanel...
I Like the engine sounds of Assetto, but globally i find pcars sounds on a higher level for now..

The FFB is better than Pcars, but not a lot in my case thanks to the good FFB settings I've found for the wheel together with the car FFB settings from the Pcars.oscarolim.pt website

The fov settings in Pcars makes also a good difference...

Damage....in Assetto you keep a car in full revs...and nothing happens with the engine in most cars, in Pcars every car starts to overheat and ends with engine failure..

I realy love the physics of Assetto, giving a very natural feeling (playing alone on track)
But that's quite all..

AI behaviour in Pcars for me is more "human" doing mistakes, avoids cutting track if needed... I'm seing Assetto AI behaviour like the one in GT5-6 but faster...

I decided to go back on Pcars... And Will stay there for a while... Hopefully Kunos improves the game fast, fixes the sound issues that are still there from day one and start to put in the options and features missing from the PC version... And that framerate need really a lot of work..

Those KTM X-bows! What a new experience driving them with the stick shift. Can really throw it about now. So much fun. Must have been playing 7 hours on and off. What fun!

Sadly I'm being handicapped by the Playseat centre post. :/

Will have to find some way of making some new modifications. Lovely gear stick the TH8A from what I remember using the Logitech G25 shifter. It was very hollow and plastic.

A little getting the feeling this afternoon. Still a long way to go. Horrible reaching with my right foot squeezing around the centre post.

Tried the sequential on the Lotus 98T. Quite fun.

On the subject, yesterday I had one of my favourite experiences so far in AC, driving the 962C Short Tail. And this is from someone who's not much into race cars.

Other recommendations, off the top of my head and from the PP II are the 718 Spyder RS and the Cayman GT4.

Still waiting for the 911R from PP III, for that ultimate 911 experience.

I love that short tail. Just feels nice and solid and sounds great. Only shame is the AI are a little heavy-footed on the brakes so don't always make for a good race. I hope that Mazda 787 comes soon and also handles nicely.

You know you can screw the Playseat pedal plate on in several different positions? Have you tried moving it to the right?

Mazda 787b, Jaguar xjr-14?, and maybe another thrown in from Nissan and we'd have a great group c class to play around with.

As for my late opinion on the cars, I'm still thinking gt4 in general is one of the best to drive. Really wish I had Cayman gt4 clubsport and Maserati GT gt4 in pcars. Both were super easy to handle yet had loads of character. Also the 917/30 was a pleasant/scary surprise. Much scarier than the Mercedes c9!

Won't that then interfere with left foot braking?

This is another reaso why I like the Playseat Challenge so much; the absence of a central post.

Yes, I've tried every scenario. Where you gain with right foot braking you end up with the same problem with the left foot. I had to move the pedal stand to the left. Then if you do manage to get more space for your feet by pulling the centre post away from the pedals. You suffer with lower steering. As you have to lower the wheel because you've pulled the wheel stand back. Ending up like a tomy toy wheel with the bottom of the wheel nearly touching your thighs. I detest a wheel at stomach height.

So which poison do you pick...

What were Playseat thinking with this? Bare in mind I've had this Playseat since 2008 when I first started getting into wheels since the G25.

My legs just simply isn't long enough.

It was also the reason I went with the wide Sparco brake plate to try to help with this.
