But then...

On to race 2, was doing well enough, however on lap 6 some moron called 'DanyShelby_Oc' parked on the first straight and drove across the track straight into me, then drove off. I didn't quit and kept going, and there he was, waiting down the very next straight and tried to swerve into me as I passed; but I threw him a dummy and got by easily. Unfortunately the idiot used me to brake into T3 and sent me off again. I guess I was marked for death... But again I carried on and still had a semi-decent race with the back markers, and eventually the imbecile disconnected. He probably hoped I would do the same after 2 impacts but screw that guy!

Now when did they say private lobbies were coming?

I remember that once on GT5? I had a stalker. The person would speed up as I picked up. Soon as I tried to pass they'd run me off the road. If I stayed where I was they too would stay further up the road.

Reminded me of Duel.

On the subject of this is it possible to complete all of those on PS4 (and using the DS4)? I've completed career mode and a bunch of the special events but some seem like they will be impossibly difficult.

You've done well to get through career on the DS4 :-) And yes, some special events seem impossible while others I nailed first go. BTW I am on a wheel and can't drive for nuts on a hand controller ;-) Not bad at shooting people but driving, nah!

Well I just experienced the highs and lows of online public racing in 2 back-to-back GT3 races at RBR:

...

Now when did they say private lobbies were coming?

Yeah I experienced that too, but I usually get angry fast and I quit because I really can't just sit there driving with some a**hole/s!

I mean I really go into analyzing the situation and try to understand why would someone do that. I get these random ideas:
-He must be a small kid that got this game as a gift and think he's fun or cool for doing so.
-If not, he must be a terrible driver, a sour loser, a maniac, etc...
-If not, he could be a temperamental guy and someone hit him so he's going crazy on a killing spree to get his revenge.
-Or maybe he's playing on the DS4 and he just can't control his car because he presses the buttons all the way down.
-etc...

I mean I can't really think that a mature guy, especially if he spent $ on a rig and a wheel can be doing that. There's just no way. He'll be ****ing himself and everyone else!

Bottom line, it really gets me thinking about those endless possibilities and I end up leaving because I just can't get it and I wouldn't definitely do the same to him even if I can, so I quit.

The number of races I actually finished online is countable on a single hand unfortunately. I try to drive as clean as possible and even leave the fastest guys go by just to keep everyone's life easier and avoid contacts, yet it ends up bad most of the times by some jerk hitting me; or even me hitting someone unwillingly which makes me go mad about myself.

Haha yeah that's it! Classic movie. Every time I saw an orangey McLaren up ahead I expected battle to commence and every time I saw another car off the track I assumed it was him that caused it.
And as @Georgeagea says, people like that are a special kind of loser.

There's been a lot of talk about Private Lobbies coming. But does anyone know exactly what they will be like? Will we have enough common sense options to be able to facilitate clean races? I remember the disappointment when Project CARS private lobbies were revealed, & the lack of no-brainer features that were missing. I wonder what AC will eventually offer in this regard...

Hopefully at least the ability for the host to start the race soon after the qualifying clock runs out so we don't have to wait in the pits for 9+ mins whilst someone finishes their lap at Nords endurance... :banghead:

Yea this is a huge oversight. People being able to connect to the server once the session is over is a big part of that I think.

It may have been in the end of year blog, but they alluded to the fact we would be able to run leagues etc so i totally assume, hope they have had the sense to add what we need.

I made the mistake of joining a session that said it had 1 min of qualifying left but the game took so long to load the track that when it finally did I was dropped straight on the grid just as all the other cars pulled away to start the race! By the time I'd guessed how much fuel I needed (what's up with that?!) they'd all disappeared. Made me laugh though.

I had a weird one. Drove into the pits before 0:00 qualifying, wasn't in menu mode. The race started counting down. It never put me on the grid or the obvious screen jump with the menus to select drive. I ended up crawling out the pits as the lights ended counting down. It was like I was still in the same session but now race mode.

Was quite funny explaining this over the headset as some noticed I wasn't on the grid.

That's odd. I had one today where the grid was waiting for the race start lights to come on, then all of a sudden someone drove their car through the pack and crashed into someone else. I didn't think anyone could move under the lights?

Interesting that you could adjust settings at all once out on the grid. I've been dropped in like that a few times and was never able to adjust settings. I have had 3 instances of being dropped onto the grid - once immediately after the track finished loading and twice from sitting in the pits - where I was then unable to select "drive" to start the race. Always waited until after everyone took off without me, no luck. Once I was able to quit the session from there, but the other times I couldn't do anything and had to restart the game.

I always wonder now if that's what's going on when there are a few AFK players sitting on the grid from the start of seemingly every race. Obviously there is some work to be done there, hopefully people have brought these things up on the official forums.

*edit* also notable was my first ever attempt at online, where I just sat there until the lights went out and everyone took off, because I didn't know to hit "back" to get from the session screen to the menu and then "drive" to start my race. I figured once the time came, it would automatically punt me behind the wheel. Nope!

It would be nice if they had a pop up you had to respond to by the time the last couple lights come on to be put on the grid. The dead cars on the grid that you have to avoid each lap is annoying.

I must've dropped in a nanosecond before the lights came on I guess.

Actually that makes no sense either.

That happens if someone is about to be kicked.

The gearstick and clutch is quite fun in saving spins. I really need to fine tune it though. Did manage to find a bit more foot room fine tweaking the Playseat without compromising the wheel position.

So much fun with the stick. A lot to learn though for speed. Feels like learning the cars again.

Voo, that's not true! It happens when someone joins the session too late and the race is about to begin! That moment between end of quali and start of race!
It happened to me twice and I was able to drive away and i wasn't kicked out!
But yeah i (and everyone facing that "issue"/advantage) should be kicked out!
I mean, this bug should not be there in the first place!

For once I'm allowing myself to speculate a bit, on custom / private lobbies.

I would say let's not get ahead of ourselves, be pragmatic.
From what they look like on PC, do not expect to be able to:

- change the track once the lobby has been created
- allow any car to be used. At the lobby's creation, the models (and how many of each) will be decided. Then that's it
- change cars without leaving first
- have time limited races. It will be a number of laps
- leave your own lobby without killing it
- have a simple 'tuning not allowed' tick box (see further below why)
- (speculating) send invitations other than how we currently do

What we should be able to do:
- the owner should be able to restart, skip and kick at will
- optional practice & optional quali (both with choice of duration) and race (n laps)
- pick time of day, weather, whether ABS/TCS are on/off/factory, all these settings available offline...
- make these custom lobbies private via a password
- (speculating) save lobby configurations for future reuse

What I'm not sure about yet is whether fixed tunes will be possible. My theory is that it will be possible but later.

If it is implemented, the way I see it is that we'll be able to use saved tunes as default, fixed tunes. And we'd have to save a fixed tune for each car used in the lobby.
These fixed tunes would also be the way to enforce 'stock only' lobbies: by saving a stock tune and using it as the only allowed fixed tune.

Or they could be working on a completely different system and all of this is wrong...

Also, Im not sure of what kind of performance can be expected from a privately setup server in a console.

Well that is the most depressing part right now. Nearly everything is stuck on Red Bull of Nordschleife. Or its 1 - 2 car slots available.

For 24 cars, under 3Mbits/s is to be expected according to the tool for PC.

Sure, but this is not only about raw bandwidth, but also about the quality of the connection itself.

And on top of that, the CPU limitations of the consoles, independently of how optimized the server is.

Fair observations. Perhaps they will be using dedicated servers, configuring them from your console is still possible.

@Orayani at least you'd be able to set your own combinations.

I expect the same regarding the first point. The 2nd point though i dont think will be true. They said "You"ll be able to run your leagues as you want". I dont think Kunos can afford another major disappointment, and if they haven't understood what console customers are expecting from these lobbies then there's a real problem.

What are the odds that we'll get voice chat? Would be good for public servers too, so long as it would be very easy to mute all or selected people.

On that thought, when you pause the game during a race, the car should become a ghost and the AI should take over. It would momentarily maintain your initial speed at pause unless it needed to slow (going into a corner) and then slow at a steadily decreasing pace. Once you unpaused, you'd blink a few times before coming out of ghost. This way, you could pause to mute or kick people without major impact on your race or others around you, but couldn't use pausing for any strategic advantage.

And that's one of the limitations I'm most convinced about.
