The reflections quality (refresh setting, maybe?) was lowered to improve performance, which is still a bit wonky unfortunately. What they've achieved at the beginning was quite good, especially considering the super low FPS the game was hitting when Kunos made the first console build but I think there's room for further improvements.

The reflection in the hood is the same since the beginning until now.
It was and is always laggy.

The difference is in 1.03 they add the AA filter that took rid of the tearing but introduced stuttering.
Framerate levels has stayed the same as digital Foundry stated in two videos, one at launch and one with the 1.03 update.

The only visible difference i have seen since the 1.03 update is that they lowered a detail of the headlights of the cars:

Before 1.03:

After 1.03:

About framerates, here are the videos of digital Foundry, framerate without improvement but kills tearing (and add stuttering, which for me is whorse than the tearing)

The only one that improve performance is the boost mode enabled on PS4 Pro..
And if the user above say that with the last 1.14 update of assetto even on pro it isn't so solid anymore as before... (and he isn't the only one saying that, some with PS4 Pro reported the same on the official support forum)

Hopefully we see soon a real improvement in the performance of assetto, or at least something that get rid of the annoying stuttering

Purchased and downloaded the game on the PS4 earlier thanks to the massive PS+ discount. I'm genuinely impressed by how s### the controller settings are out of the box. Even after trying plenty of other settings, it's still nowhere near acceptable. Urgh.
I use those:
- Sensitivity: 80%
- Speed: 30%
- Deadzone: 0% (any deadzone setting has currently no effect, should be fixed by the next update)
- Filter: 0%
- Gamma: 2.2
- Wheel rotation limit (visual): 320°
I think they work pretty well.

It was and is always laggy.
That's odd. I could have sworn they looked better pre 1.03.

If it helps, leave all the settings predefined and "Speed sensitivity" and "Steering speed" in high levels (70-100 more or less).
I went with 80 and 85 respectively and set the visual rotation to 240°. So far, so good. Far more enjoyable than whatever the hell other people used and suggested.

:P

Thanks!

Gonna' let this game collect virtual dust on my hard drive until I get a proper wheel setup in the living room.

The default settings truly are awful. You should have tried it before they were update. Far worse, which was odd because they were fine on launch day, better than the current algorithms.
Try these, this first one you can try with zero steering filter too. Bear in mind no matter how good a setting you find, some cars still won't be suited to your Settings.

What steering filter and steering gamma do?
I dont know for a fact but i recall seeing somewhere that Gamma affects how quick your steering is around the center, and that seams to be true. Filter just filters out the inputs. If you put it to 100 it filters out 100% of your inputs, which will obviously result in no steering at all.

That first photo i posted, if you set filter to zero the steering is extremely quick, kind of twitchy, but not uncontrollable. I think i could be faster with that setting but visually it doesn't look realistic which is why i dont use it.

I've already seen and proved what gamma and filter do. Filter like you say, makes the control smoother: it removes the stick movements that dont follow the average. If you are turning with the stick at 50% but you cant keep it on 50% always (because you dont have a perfect pulse and your finger is sacking), meaning your inputs are 50%, 50%, 70%, 50%, 50%, 30% the filter transform those 70% and 30% in something more similar to 50% (maybe 40% and 60%).

Gamma describes the exponential curve between how much you turn and how much the car really turns. For example, with gamma at 1, you turn 25% and the car turns 25%, you turn 50% and the car turns 50%, you turn 100% and the car turns 100%. With gamma at 2, you turn 50% and the car turns 25%, you turn 100% and the car turns 100%.

Is it?

Ah, Well either way I have lost the Highlands Tracks and the 6 cars that came with the update, Something I really could have done without there.
That is strange, pretty sure i saw someone else with the same issue. Try deleting your game save ( Back it up though) .

Occasionally my game crashes when loading Highlands long.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a go.

Funnily enough I remember having a similar problem a while back with the original Project Cars game. All the DLC packs wouldn't load for whatever reason.

But it just fixed itself in time so hopefully this will be the same scenario :)

It is strange because I've only ever had save issues with racing games dating back to GT5.
I'm curious about what does this actually provide on top of the regular 3rd person views built-in!? What's the difference?!
Well, you can set the height, distance and FOV for starters. Plus it generally isn't as rubbish as the default chase cam, it's actually useable.

Try it and you will figure out at the first lap. Original chase cam is completely useless: moves randomly and doesnt give you any info (more than that, it's confusing) of how is the car. ""My"" chase cam doesn't move, but that way you are able to know when the car is oversteering.

Ok I'm getting really fed up with this now.

Finally managed to get the game working and all was well last night.

Back from work and stick it on.. boom back to square one.

Turn it on and back to the X Box screen.

I really don't feel like going through this again.. Good thing Project Cars 2 and Forza 7 are due out soon.

I hate whining but it's just beyond frustrating at this point.

Well, Kunos are in contact with MS so its best to just wait until they've resolved the issue.

I hope you planned on getting Forza anyway, because buying a rehashed first-party title might just be the worst possible answer to a problem Microsoft seemingly caused for a small and hard-working third-party studio competing in the same genre.

I can't remember if I asked this recently, but I feel like I remember them teasing about Laguna Seca coming to Assetto Corsa... is there any update or truth to that? It's my favourite track.

It's coming. Kunos has already scaned it. On PC at the end of the year. On consoles probably on 2018.

I am pretty sure they could save themselves the trouble on consoles. I very much doubt *any* PS4 user will be on this game in 2018 ;-)

PS Is it just me or are online lobbies at the moment just full of aggressive idiots that have NFI of how to drive or what racing etiquette is? Kunos have no idea how much they have let PS4 users down with their poor implementation of online lobbies >:-(

I will be. But then again I wouldn't even notice if online disappeared...

Right now, I just wish Kunos would move on to AC2.

Releasing a fresh piece of software (equal for all platforms) as soon as possible is the way to go, in my opinion.

On this matter: do you guys think It's possible for Kunos to just release the DLC cars and tracks (without extra features, tweaks etc.) to minimize the time gap between PC and consoles?

I dont think so. That would send a very bad message to the console users. In addition to that, the game still isn't what was promissed and it's full with bugs.

I'm highly against that. A game that is full with bugs, very short on features compared to PC and they decide to abandon it and go to the sequel?...

And you really believe that those fixes will happen now, 1 year after the launch?
That's being too optimistic, if you ask me.

I understand that it shouldn't be the way to do things, but realistically it's the only way, unfortunately. And the sooner, the better.

AC2 could mean a loss of RUF and Toyota production cars, which would be bad news for me considering how often I drive the Yellowbird and Supra, and I'm more interested in getting everything they planned for the existing console version before they even begin to talk about a successor. If they stop releasing DLC next year, I might be ready for AC2 sometime around winter or spring 2019.

On the subject, once again I'm surprised by how long it takes to bring an update to consoles. Stefano said this one should come out quickly compared to version 1.14. :boggled:

I will be. Stefano also said if there are zero players on console they will still continue work on it.

I wonder if they could just release an expansion with an engine swap, call it AC Evo or something then market it as a new game whilst keeping current content.

We know they will be developing AC for the remainder of 2017 at least, so it remains to be seen what happens beyond that.

I wasnt saying what they will do, I was saying what they have to do. And they have to develop the game just like they promissed.

To desire that they drop the actual game (with all the bugs, issues and features missing) will automatically delegitimize yourself from complaining about bugs, issues and features from PC missing in the next game. Just like, for example, all the G29 users cant really complain if Logitech do the same thing they did to the G27 users on the new generation. It will still be unfair and you are free to point that out, but you cant feel betrayed because you knew that was coming.

Now, What they will do? Probably a middle ground: solve all the issues and bugs and adding most of the features the PC is receiving now, but a lot of other features the PC has since a long time probably wont be added (drag races, showroom).

And I, that I has been one of the most ferocious defenders of Kunos in some matters like for example private lobbies (because it was reasonable how they did it), will be the first person to point out "Do you want me to believe this?" if they promisse anything.

The issue with the XBOX ONE 1.14 update has delayed everything else on consoles. Also it's fair to point out that private lobbies were being developed since 2016. They took more than 6 moths, with Stefano (in his words) working on that as his first priority.
