That's the kind of AI I want to race against. Real good, sensible stuff. I want pressure from AI I've just passed. Don't want to knock pCARS but that's behaviour you don't get in that game, and it's way too easy to pass half the grid from the lights (sometimes I do rolling starts just to stop this happening and I shouldn't really have to).

Well, it's still a work in progress and I haven't really tested it since the update, but it seems to be a lot better than it was. When I first started playing about 2 years ago the AI was pretty much like GT's AI, rolling chicanes that had no real idea you were there and didn't want to fight you. It looks like now they will fight you and they don't throw in the towel once you pass them. I think they still struggle a bit at the start, but if you give them half a lap to get going and sorted then you can have some good racing.

I don't know how skilled you are, but I'm a fairly decent driver. Probably average. The AI can kick my butt if I set the AI difficulty too high. On some tracks, if I set the AI to 90% I'm dead. Others, I can't win around 95% or higher. It all depends on the track, number of cars, types of cars and just plain old how well am I driving today?

(Haven't tried 1.7 AI) I struggle to beat 100% AI if they are driving F1 cars, or sometimes in GT cars if I can't get on with the one I'm driving. The front runners are actually pretty damn fast.

In less grippy or slower cars I wish they were a bit faster/more aggressive - they tap the brakes in places where they don't need to sometimes. One of them is in the video above at Monza, the AI will tap the brakes coming out of the Ascari Chicanes every time, in literally any car they're driving. In replays I have also noticed that in various cars, the AI will not downshift into Parabolica, meaning that they are bogging along in top gear coming on to the main straight.

I'm pretty confident there is no mode called Helmet Cam. Could you tell me what makes this Helmet Cam special? I ask because you can obviously move the drivers view around to pretty much any position you want. If Helmet Cam is just a view that's higher than the driver's line of eye sight, well, you could adjust it to be there.

Helmet cam is Cockpit view, with the difference that the head of the driver (camera) turns his view to the apex of the corners.

It makes a very natural view.
I only see this cam in Project C.A.R.S and the Shift series.

(Look to Apex) This is the reason I only use helmet cam in Project Cars.
After over a year using this feature I recently turned it off so I could get used to the regular static view in time for AC. I don't actually miss it now, but it's certainly a great feature, wish more games had it.

Lots of PC sims have had it, most notably many of Simbin's games.

However the pCARS helmet cam goes a step further with depth of field effects as you go faster to give you a feeling of focus and speed. I always found it over the top personally

Yes I turned that blur off straight away. Bit too distracting for me. Plus when you turn the helmet on it affects the audio which I didn't like either. But the apex bit was good! Lol

I personally don't like look to apex. I find it disorienting.
I think I set mine at about 30, just for a subtle effect. Too much higher and it looked like the head was turning way too far from the corner and was very disorienting for me also.

I'd rather just physically look over myself. But I could see how it would potentially be helpful if you use a closer FOV. I just use default FOV.

If
That's why the oculus Rift and VR are so good in driving games... Makes driving supernatural..
If you ever try VR goggles you will see that it has nothing in common with any look to the apex gimmick on a flat 2D screen.
VR goggles does not make driving super natural, it is just the opposite, the goggles makes the driving completely natural, as close as you can get to the real thing. Nothing else comes anywhere close as far as immersion is concerned, not only do you see, left, right, up, down and behind, but for the first time you can also see the distances. A total game changer!

I tried the Oculus DK2 and yes,it's a game changer.. But for long gaming sessions i don't find it comfortable.
So,a helmet view is better than a fixed view in case you don't have VR

We are on the same page about. VR then, l mis-read your post, :). Personally I don't like any look to apex gimmick as it feels totally wrong to me that the screen is moving in front of me, when catching a slide it is even pointing in the wrong direction.
Yes the goggle are a little bit uncomfortable, after a while, but it can also be seen has adding to the immersion, as driving on the track IRL, with the helmet on, is not so comfortable after a while as well, :sly:

Yes, nowadays there's VR, triple screen, look to apex, but personally instead of those I'd rather have a panoramic screen like the one used in the Red Bull simulator:
