What gives away replays as opposed to live gameplay? I assumed most onboard videos posted lately were direct capture of gameplay. Off-screen footage isn't something I find too reassuring, and ultimately it's probably just best to read what players are reporting based on experiencing the game first hand on their own displays with the day one patch installed.

Is there even a way to do direct capture on a PS4? I don't know, I'm just passing along what I read in a few comments on the AC forums. Based on what I know of Kunos/Stefano I can't imagine they'd let screen-tearing go unabated. And like I mentioned in a previous comment, Stefano already has made some pretty big performance enhancements (higher FPS, lower response time, better reflections/anti-aliasing) that's probably hitting the PC in the next update so hopefully all of that will help address any screen tearing on the console side.

And as I've also said before, it's rarely wise to make decisions from YouTube videos since their compression is known to cause some random abnormalities.

The lack of Xbox footage also concerns me. Third party developers have treated the console poorly far too often and it won't wash when there are games that achieve 1080p60 on the console.
In all fairness though, it has to be more than coincidence that the Xbox version of cross platform games generally underperform in comparison to the PS4 version.

I'm pretty sure they've said that they are working on showing Xbox One footage before release. The fact that they haven't shown anything yet may come down to what we've known for a while - higher specs of PS4 version.

I think this is the best video so far to (try to) judge tearing and other breakdowns:

1080p60 in game footage from a Race, with 12+ opponents.

The trees and general background are not 100% fluid, but I think (and hope) it won't be much distracting when immersed in actual driving.

Yeah, car count is not something which is a deal breaker for me. AC still has 90+ cars and with the Japanese and Red packs, plus Porsche coming next month, more than enough to keep me occupied. Heck, it's not much different to PGR or Test Drive Unlimited 1 & 2 or Shift 1 and 2 for that matter.

I honestly believe too many cars can be an issue, even Forza 4 which was a pinnacle in that series for me I would have so many cars and so many choices sometimes I'd waste time deciding what car to drive in.
OK its a 1st world problem and and a nice problem to have, but in a gaming context imagine for example if PCars only had the Clio Cup I'd still be playing it as much as i do.
A game can be days old and some gamers are already Begging for the DLC (DiRT) and worse than that is when you get people saying "this game is dead now they stopped DLC".... huh?! Just enjoy what you have! When did part of gaming become getting DLC?

P.S. Can someone explain to me how once I've posted I can respond to another post without getting banned for a month for double posting? cheers.

Isn't it just +Quote and then Edit?
Anyway, a lot of us have double posted a few times without being punished for it. (You shouldn't do it though :)).

If I've already made the first post, what I do is hit "reply" on the next post I want to comment on, copy it, then edit my original post, paste the new quote at the bottom, type my response, and save the changes. But you won't get banned for double posting.

Thing is us xbox owners get that (remember we didn't chose a console just to fit in) but what i'm saying is if the game runs very badly on xbox then instead of keeping us in the dark about it they should either be honest or not release it on xbox.
Its the taking of the cash first then the excuses of poor console performance 2nd that can irk (mentioning no namesms).
If it releases in bad state on xbox they would of been well aware of this it won't be a surprise to them so for that i'm hoping the lack of xbox footage is just down to giving out preview copies to the most popular console.
Personally I think it will be fine on the xbox though.

P.S. I got 30 day ban for double posting. I'll hold my hands up i did it a few times as i got over excited.

I like Billy's videos generally, very informative. There is tearing present, as there is in Digiprost's video, but it's not as bad as I'd feared, and hopefully won't cause too much annoyance. I can deal with trees and so on tearing, just hope the cars around me are pretty free from it.

EDIT: Although having just watched his Nords upload the level of performance isn't exactly great by any stretch. Hope the day one patch addresses the v-sync.

My concern is that he doesn't mention any wheel calibration options but does say there was no way to adjust brake pressure in the setup screens. I can accept that, but surely we need proper wheel calibration? How will the game know how far I want to depress my brake pedal before it hits 100%, especially with the T3PA brake mod?

There is wheel and pedal calibration. And you can also adjust the brake gamma. That's what I'll do when I receive the conical brake mod I just ordered for my T3PAs.

Yeah, the Nords video by DigiProst looks a bit worst, doesn't it? And that's without any AI cars in it.

It's a lot worse IMO. Be a good time for Kunos to tell us all what's in the day 1 Patch. VVV said UI and online elements, would love to know if any graphical updates are included too.

I agree with you 100%, if I was an Xbox owner I would be very apprehensive about the fact that no footage has emerged yet.
We can all see tearing on the PS4 version as it is , and if past performance is anything to go by then the Xbox version will probably run like a bag of spanners.
All this day one patch nonsense is disgraceful if you ask me. PCars was unplayable for me for over a month after it was released.
What ever happened to releasing a finished game?!

He did not show the option to drive the car from the behind view of the whole car?

On the PC version, can you drive the car looking from behind the whole car? Like this view below:

Would you rather have a Day 1 patch or wait another few months for the game? At this point people are tired of waiting and KUNOS wants to release their highly anticipated game to the public. The sooner the better, work out the kinks as you go but at least it's out.

Yes, there's a chase cam option. If you watch Digiprost's Audi video he's captured the whole race like that in one of the screens.

I made a post a while back about recording PS3 direct footage, same setup wills still apply for PS4 if you are curious, or you can stream it of course: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/how-to-convert-gt5-prologue-replays.125393/#post-3771038

Mostly agree but the flip side is there can be a detrimental effect if the game launches and doesn't run well as that'll get players bad-mouthing it (cough* No Man's Sky) which can be hard to recover from (cough* pCARS). Time will tell.

Yeah, I knew it was possible like that, but I don't know how many people have the stuff to do it. I was referring more to a built-in feature on the PS4. I'm presuming most of the PS4 footage we've seen is replays exported to YouTube directly from the PS4 (that's possible, right?) and I've seen a few comments recently suggesting that replays have some issues with screen tearing. So if that's what we're seeing it's probably not entirely representative of what one would see when they're actually playing. I could certainly be wrong though, I've been trying to scour the AC forums to see if there's any information on this I can pass along to you guys but there really isn't much discussion about screen tearing on consoles at all.

That depends on how much they can achieve through a day one patch. I'd gladly wait for as long as it takes to release a game without any major flaws. Let's just relax about it until the thing is released.

It's identical to the F1 2016 situation. It's Fanatec and Sony at issue here.

See the Codemasters blog for details: http://blog.codemasters.com/f1/08/f1-2016-supported-wheels/

"Statement with regards to Fanatec not being on the supported wheel list on PS4:

Codemasters will continue to support officially approved peripherals for PlayStation 4 in F1 2016. We appreciate that this is far from an ideal situation and as always we are making every effort we can to support our community. Sadly this matter is out of our hands, but we will continue our dialogue with both Sony and Fanatec to try to find a solution."

(Note that Codies already delivered Fanatec support on PS4 for F1 2015 and DiRT Rally)

Best that can be hoped for is for Fanatec to license their new wheel soon, and Codies and Kunos are allowed to include Fanatec wheels again at that point.

Kunos are gonna lose some amount of sales over this. My pal is canceling his pre order right now.
do any sony games support it then because it seems like a issue on sony's end though im not sure if those consoles are like pcs where if its not officially supported then it will at least attempt to provide some modicum of ffb

I would sure like to know who is writing the "Statement with regards to Fanatec not being on the supported" line Sony or Fanatec? Its pretty clear someone gave them their statement.

They likely knew that going into it and already took it into account. Sounds like it's an issue that's out of their hands.
I've no doubt it's out of their hands and it's the last thing they wanted, but they should have announced it long before now, not a week before the game's release. That's poor form.

They work just fine on PCars and Dirt.
