After some more testing and playing with ffb settings i have some advice for people who still have doubts about AC :

BUY THE GAME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!

The driving model (physics an ffb) is MIND-BLOWING, it's so addictive to drive a car that you can forgive all the shortcomings.

First 30 min of play : good, but not as good as pCARS
Next 30 min of play : hmm, maybe it's as good as pCARS
Next 30 min of play : OMG, it's freaking awesome, it's MUCH better than pCARS
:gtpflag:

I like this /\
Like i say, this generations Race Pro, ugly as furless cat but stunning physics.

Would you be so kind to list/check the preset ? Is it possible to use gas/brake with X and square ( face buttons ) or the shoulder buttons for gas/brake ( L2/R2 ) while shifting with square and circle ? Any clutch button assigned ? Can the gas/brake/clutch be setup ( deadzone/range ) ? I have asked several times with no response :/

If you have optimized the steering settings on the DS4, how does it compare to say GT6 with the analog steering ? When drifting for example ( countersteer ).

Also, any graphic options that can be changed like in PC ? Something similar to Pcars, so user can scale the LOD/graphic effect etc to increase FPS peak/stability.
You need to get a wheel, so much better.

Sorry, not possible, I don't have that much money to spend on a wheel ( I will have to buy a stand/seat to go with it ). I'm not even sure I can get NEO when it released. Life takes priorities for me as I have lots of expenses to cover for at least 2 years ahead.

I manage just fine with stick controller, never really cared about FFB, physics/accuracy is what matters.

Ok, I was playing while the patch was loading as i couldn't wait! :P

I was then prompted to install update 1.0.1 of 200+mb so i did so, and when the game restarted the improvements in graphics AND sound were clear. ( I used same car/track combo to illistrate) Lighting and textures improved, and also pit limiter working as before patch i could leave the pits at full blast!! :P

And here's just a short replay to show the graphics......

Out of the box the game is great, a bit of tearing here and there, but for sure that will be sorted over time, and with lots of DLC to come in the future this game will be epic!! No game is perfect to start with these days, but this game really could be something special over time!! I'm happy! :)

Based on the videos we've seen so far it looks like there's just the preset option, no ability to change them (it looked to me like there was just the one preset but I could be wrong). I'd like to think this would change in the future since every pad player seems to use different combinations of controls, but who knows.

Second that - some things in life are important

Say what you want, you won't get the full experience with a controller. Once you have tried AC with a decent wheel there is no going back.

It's also a pretty big commitment if you want to do a wheel right, you need a stand for it, a seat, and ideally a dedicated tv/monitor. Sure, it's a different experience with a wheel but it can still be enjoyed by pad users if that's what their situation allows. For some people a wheel setup just isn't feasible, no matter how many times people on the internets tell them it's the superior way to play. It's easy for me to have a triple-screen wheel setup because I have no wife or kids and I have an extra room in my house to put it all. But my buddy that's married with two kids and lives in a small two bedroom apartment, no way he has the finances or space for a wheel setup, but he still has fun playing with a control pad (and used to be just as fast as me when we raced in GT5/6).

@SlipZtrEm - Is the GTP video showing version 1.00 or 1.01?

That'd be version 1.01. 👍

Currently, I'm running the default preset, so that's triggers for gas/brake and shifting is Square and X (down and up). I haven't seen a button for clutch yet, but I may need to turn off auto-clutch for it. My testing was brief yesterday: I've had some real-world things pop up.

Drifting is next on my list of testing, I'll report back with findings (or, most likely, on the front page).

No graphic options that I saw. You can alter the POV angle though, from 50 to 60 degrees. I'm really impressed by the camera options, actually: while the chase cams feel very strange because of how loose they are, I love that I can have both a hood view and an interior-sans-wheel one. 👍

My ps4's HDMI port is broke and needs repairing, which will cost a lot. I am actually considering preordering it on Xbox so I can play it now, and then buying it again on the ps4 down the road (or even just wait until I can build a PC). Which leads me to ask: is it still a great experience on a controller?

Based on limited experience, it's much easier to come to terms with than PCARS was on a pad.

I'll save more thoughts for our review, though.

Irrespective of what you have said, it is still far better with a decent wheel.

No graphic options that I saw.

Yeah, I wouldn't think there would be. They're necessary on PC because of all the different machines being used but on the console everyone uses the same hardware so the game should be optimized to have stability on that hardware at all times, thus no need to adjust the graphics levels.

I never said it wasn't, neither did anyone else. But whether it's far better with a wheel or not has zero bearing on if someone has the finances/space for a wheel. Right? I mean, a Ferrari 488 is far better than my Mini Cooper S but I can't afford a Ferrari so I have to make due with what I can afford, and my Mini is still hella fun and puts a big smile on my face when I'm flogging it through the twisties.

Why would Kunos not include an option for custom controller setup? That has been a basic option since the PS3 days. Hopefully it will be added with a patch.

Maybe because coding a video game isn't as easy as a lot of people think it is. I doubt the scenario was "Screw the console plebs, just give them one setup", but probably something more like "Well, crap, that isn't working how we wanted. Let's just put a default setup there for now until we can get this working to our liking. Not ideal, but we're kind of against the wall here and need to release it".

Graphics options have been around in consoles since PS1 days, options always good right ? It's not only about graphic details, also HUD placement, screen size, mirrors, gamma/brightness/contrast, motion blur, smoothing/anti alias, filters etc. They have been implemented in many different games on console.

FTFY. Reminds me of PS2 Toca Race Driver 3, it had extensive options for controller, including clutch. Heck, even Advan Racing from PS1 days, late 90's had clutch button and custom options.

Khm, guys - yes, it would be better to remap buttons in-game, and I hope for you it will come... Until then, you CAN remap buttons in PS4 menu. It is a bother 'cause it will carry-over in other games, but that's at least an option.

Don't know about Microsoft?

The PS4 can change controller settings can't you do it that way?

Edit. Settings - Accessibility - Button Assignments.

@BrandonW77 raises a fair point. I bought a wheel in the late 1990s to use with GT1. Admittedly, it wasn't as sophisticated as today's wheels and game physics weren't too advanced, but I never felt it enhanced my experience due to sitting in a soft sofa while using a coffee table as wheel stand. It was uncomfortable to say the least. I have serious thoughts about getting a wheel for AC as I'm not denying that wheels provide the best sensation, but the living room logistics are still a factor causing hesitance on my part.

I didn't mean any of that stuff, I meant things like FPS, reflections, AA, FXAA, crepuscular rays, world detail, etc., things that effect performance. If those things need to be included on a console to improve performance the dev has not done a good job of optimizing the game for the hardware.

Nope. The season pass and the performance pack are the only two AC add ons at present.
So Preformance Pack is free they just told us it's preorder bonus for digital version so that we could preorder...
That aint fair at all...

It's fairly common for the season pass to be a loophole to access preorder content.

I use a T300 in my lounge, I just pull up my two seater sofa in front of my 50 inch Panny and good to go. I did buy a a race style swivel chair but can't get it low enough. I also bought a stand off eBay, which was only about £90.00.
