I was just thinking...the next update for consoles should be a pretty big one, if they're going to do what I think they're going to do. Private lobbies are supposed to be coming, right? All cars finally on one version of their tire model v10 (including inertia fixes). New track Highlands, new car Audi Sports Quattro S1 E2. Has there been any mention when your next update might be coming?

Soon™ :D

I know. :( You guys have been waiting forever for those private lobbies. :irked: That's why I'm really hoping your next update has everything I just mentioned. It will be a killer update! The new track Highlands isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread or anything like that...but, I've personally been loving it. So far, my favorite layout of the four is the longest layout because it's a lot of fun blasting down the back straight, especially in cars that you can't often get up to top speed. I just spent a couple of hours just driving the two Porsche 962 C's & Porsche 917/30 Spyder -- continually tweaking things trying to squeeze an extra MPH or two out of her before I must lift or die. :lol: Normally, I don't care about top end, but this track really brings out the kid in me. :D

Some more ramblings on online.

- Further navigating through the available lobbies, I found some (potentially) nice races, like the Escort @ Brands Hatch and the MX-5 Cup @ Mugello. Unfortunately, the little people that were in there weren't even trying... A shame, really;
- As a consequence, had to resort to GT3 to play my final race online (promotion ended at midnight). At least, I ended the experience with a win;
- Had a nice trackday experience with someone at Nordschleife Tourist (me on a 911 R, him on a Turbo S). We would wait for each other everytime there was a slight delay. It was pretty cool, but I got the impression that it is difficult to find guys like that and that I was just lucky;
- Way too much time passes between the end of the qualification time and the race start... At Nordschleife, this can take forever. I waited for around 10 minutes and simply gave up.

Overall, I enjoyed the experience and I can see myself paying for PS Plus sometime in the future for this. Again, there are some dicks around, but less so than I was expecting;

The problem, for me, is that one has to waste too much time to finally be in a race. Between finding a decent room, the proper people, going through qualification, etc. takes forever. Also, most of the times you just end up racing with what's available; not with what you actually wanted to race.

For someone who only gets to play for a couple of hours a week, this is just not an option right now for me. But I am looking forward to see what Private Lobbies will bring us.

Private Lobbies, the Highlands track and the Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 will go live as part of v 1.14 on PS4. Stay tuned for more info...

Kunos has also said that console players will get the custom championships the PC version recently got. Who knows when.

The Highland track could be great. The problem is online its a wall riding track. You cant get away from the guys hitting the walls at every turn. They just bounce off them and keep right on going. The guardrails are to close to the track surface so they loose almost no speed. For serious online racing its worthless.

I thought they fixed that in 1.12.1?

1.12.1

  • skin template added for the new Audi Sport quattro S1 E2
  • Fixed Ferrari LaFerrari erratic aero behavior on Highland high speed jumps
  • Fixed shadows caster on grass at highlands long
  • Tweaked city surface ffb effects at highlands, long and drift
  • Fixed mirrors UV on Audi Sport quattro S1 E2
  • Fixed Lotus 98T yellow tyre wear indicator on new tyres.
  • Updated Lotus 98T performance envelope by tyres, diffuser and front wing ride height sensitivity and other changes.
  • Fixed Tatuus FA01 tyre compound wear
  • Updated acServer with a fix for bookmark registration mode
  • Added IGNORE_RESULT_TELEPORT in system/cfg/options.ini to avoid teleport to pit at the end of each online session.
  • Updated walls on highlands track in order not to use them as advantage

Sorry to say that update was a fail. It might of been reduced a bit but its still very possible to wall ride with little consequence.

Oh yeah...I completely forgot that you have to pay a monthly fee just to be able to go online against real people. What is it? $5 per month?

I know how you felt, when you finally meet one or two people in a lobby who are courteous & decent drivers you pray that you'll keep meeting people like that. I would often write down the persons name or take a photo of my screen when I was new to GT6...I had no idea of how it all worked, but I knew you could have "friends" so you'd know when they were online and I think even which game they were playing. Sending invitations, or receiving invitations to a decent track was so much better than having to wade through all of the idiots when I would randomly pick a lobby in GT6.

Dammit. I knew there was something else I as forgetting. Custom Championships. I haven't even set one up yet. I need to do that soon. It sounds like it could be fun...if I get the settings correct for my skill level. If I can win every single race then something is very wrong with my difficulty level (too low)

I remember seeing a post on the official forum complaining about people riding the rail on some of those turns. I know for a fact that Kunos did put in something invisible every so often along the length of the rail so if you tried riding it for quite a distance your car would crash. It's almost like they put up a hidden wall perpendicular to your direction of travel, but only wide enough to clip your front end on the left side.

Frankly, I think Kunos should have placed more of these things along those railings on sweeping turns - place them much closer together. I'm not quite as bothered by hitting a guardrail if it's parallel to the road you're on and it's just a bump, or lightly slid along the grass...because I suppose that could be technically possible in the real world. You would sustain some damage along the entire side of the body though.

@fatkrakr - you have the best solution, in my mind. Move the guardrails back away from the track. What would be a good distance? Roughly enough grass to fit an entire car with some room to spare? You are right though. While I'm happy that they've made those slight changes to the guardrails to cause severe damage and usually spin out the driver...I don't think the drivers should keep practically the same exact speed after colliding with a guard rail.

You will actually come across the escort at Brands with serious racers if you played most nights, once it gets to 7 people it starts filling. Reg. Tourist and you two waiting for eachother, you weren't lucky. It's pretty common even with groups of 5 and 6 cars, it's good fun.

I guess wall riding wasnt the right term. Its more of them coming into the corners w/o braking much smacking the wall bouncing off and continuing on their marry way with little consequence. I have slowed down for a corner have the guy behind me come flying by, smack the wall bounce off and pull away from me coming out of the corner. :banghead:

1 month - $9.99
3 months - $24.99 ($8.33 per month)
12 months - $59.99 ($4.99 per month)

Not necessarily cheap.

Fair enough and good to know. 👍

$60 a year isn't too bad from my point of view. I fork out well over $100/yr to keep FNF going (Server + Teamspeak).

My point is, I pay you (sony/ms) for a console, for a game and I pay for my internet. Now to play the game I payed you for, on the console I paid you for, on the internet I pay for, I have to pay you again? 🤬 you with a capital F. Now maybe if I didnt need my internet to play it might be justified, but I gotta pay them too. :banghead: I know this is old news to most, but I honestly didnt know it was really that much.

Definitely agree.

Especially since the service is (said to be) good. 'PS Plus' also comes with lots of added discounts and free games as well, so an avid player can easily get a great chunk of their value back.

But then again, it can't be considered cheap, and I definitely won't buy a subscription without giving it a good thought.

Please tell me you don't buy a cafe,mocca, frappe,latte 5 days a week at your local coffee shop. Because PS Plus is cheaper and you get free games every month. Do people actually work anymore?

Ahhh...I see what you were saying now. I'm with you 101% on your original complaint -- lets face it, AC has a long way to go in the damage department. I'm not even necessarily talking about the car model crunching, although that would be nice...I mean the way it calculates a crash and assigns damage - where & how much damage is applied? Like I said before, if I'm slowly drifting into a guardrail I could technically see the car scraping off the rail that's running parallel with me, but even that is a 50/50 at best, but hitting the guardrail at 100mph because you didn't brake in time should not reward you will a pass around the guy in front of you. You should wreck. Plain and simple. Now, if you have damage down to 10% I can see that maybe it won't total your car, depending on the circumstances, of course. But I should still crash, spin, flip over, whatever.

I had completely forgotten about that $60/yearly fee. I know it's not the end of the world, but I'm sure some people think that because the PS3 online play was free, why should they have to pay now. Haven't XBox users always had to pay?

The difference is that for that money I am getting a cup of coffee I didnt already have. With sony/ms Im paying them to allow me to play something I already paid them for.

I tried to make this point on reddit and was down voted and argued to no end - You are paying for a grouped service that includes access to their online network, free games, discounts on games/dlc, discounts on other things as well (UFC fights, movies, etc) as well as some free tv shows.

People swear there is no effort on Sony/Microsoft side to provide online security for consoles (quality of said security is not the point here). Look at the number of games that have hacks/cheats on pc vs console and you will see part of the benefit.

Yeah they should allow people to purchase different levels of the grouped service, but in all, it is really not a bad yearly price. I could see a pro plan (current price and services) a middle plan (online and discounts but no free games) and a basic online only plan.

I always say.. if you do not want to pay the fee, don't. No one is making you. Go build a PC and play online for free if PC online gaming for free is going to be your argument. Stop punishing yourself and others.

Depends on the individual I guess. If I was still a console racer none of those extra things would be of any value to me unless there were discounts on the two racing games and their DLC, so I would be paying each month just to race online which wouldn't have sat too well with me (but I still would have done it). It's great that they offer the extra stuff for people that are interested in it though, I'm sure plenty of people get value from it.

The very few number of times I've wanted to benefit from being a PS Plus subscriber (free games, discouts, etc.) doesn't make up for the money I've spent on the service. Yes, I can play online whenever I want but that worked for free in the PS2 and PS3 days. Online multiplayer in AC will probably get more of my attention if the private lobbies are customizable down to the things we have no control over in the fixed rooms.

AC was half price on PS store as well as Season pass. So I guess the 0.164 cents per day isn't worth it. You also get free PS3 games that you can play online for free. If someone complains over 16 cents a day,we'll then you must have some serious financial issues.

Sure there's a lot of silence concerning private lobbies, custom championship and new track for consoles...

I read above that online is now not that bad, I guess some idiots moved on, but I fear as much as serious drivers did the same while no words or hope is spent from kunos.

It's getting like a wasteland day by day, sure dlcs do bring some people back (likely those who bought season pass...) but how long will they stay?

It's getting late kunos. Time to act, fast.

I purchased AC at full price before any discounts were offered, and I don't know why you're twisting my words into a complaint.

I agree.. I have not been playing AC lately, was playing Dirt Rally and SLRE then got hooked on Diablo 3..

They should really do a re-launch of AC .. with a 2.0 when it has the features added (private lobbies, custom lobbies, custom button mapping, etc).. It should include the season pass for a single price.
