I have a PC with a 4080 (i7 14700K, 32gb) and it works very well for me. I don't have a Q3 but a Reverb G2 which is a bit more demanding and I have it configured at 100% supersampling resolution (around 3100 X 3100) and both CPU and GPU are relatively comfortable (60-70% load) in normal configurations (I mean, daytime races, grids of up to 40-50 cars). It maintains a constant 90 fps without motion reprojection (I think that's what it's called ASW in Quest?). I've always read, especially on the CSP Discord, that AMD GPUs are not recommended for VR, especially since they don't support many technologies that NVIDIA does have (SPS and others that I can't remember now).I'm thinking about upgrading my current pc to get better performance with VR (in AC mainly)
(I know next gen NVidia and AMD cards will arrive soon, but then I'd have to also buy a whole new pc... )
my specs: Gigabyte x570, Corsair 850w Gold, 32gb ddr4 3600, Ryzen-9 5950x, Gigabyte 3070ti Vision OC 8G
oh and using Quest3 via Link cable
Max i can fit in my current case are either one of these 2 cards:
GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7900 XTX GAMING OC 24G (950 EUR new at the local pc shop)
or
ASUS ProArt GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER OC 16GB (new 1250 EUR , but I can buy a second hand with still over a year of warranty, for 1000 EUR)
I'm on the fence to get the AMD or pay a little more and get the NVidia one.
The 7900 has more GDDR6 ram (24) , but the 4080 Super has GDDR6X , which is supposed to be better...
Any thoughts / suggestions (pref. from people with experience w either of these cards , w AC on Quest 3 ) to help me decide?
... aaaaaand mild panic just now because Windows decided to update itself, despite being told not to automatically update.Reminder to any Win 11 Reverb G2 users out there to consider turning off automatic updates (at the risk of losing security updates unless you manually check for them, of course) so that you remain on version 23H2 and don't get automatically updated to 24H2, which is rolling out as we speak and could (and reportedly WILL) stop your G2 from working with immediate effect, and NOT in Nov 2026 as you might previously have thought.
How to turn off automatic updates in Windows 11
Here's how to temporarily or permanently turn off automatic updates in Windows 11www.tomsguide.com
Seems like the official MS Win 11 downloads page is already updated to 24H2, so making an official 23H2 backup ISO now (in case you get 24H2 and it bricks your G2) might be tricky.
24H2 seems to be the only version on offer.
23H2 archives can be found on unofficial sites, but these obviously carry significant risk.
Hi and welcome ! Yes it will run fine, but I recommend you stick to 72Hz and set the slider to max resolution (in Meta Quest Link app). With an AMD Ryzen 5 5600, RTX 4060 Ti 8GB, and 32GB of RAM, will it be possible to run Assetto Corsa smoothly in VR (quest2) with decent frame rates and settings? What kind of performance should I expect, and are there any recommended tweaks to optimize the experience?
If your eyes can focus happily at 1m without glasses then you'll be fine. For me without my reading glasses, it's a little too close. It’s a strange thing on the 1M focus. I thought I would have had a problem with it due to having cataracts done in both eyes. I now have distance lenses fitted but also wear variafocals for driving in real life. But I don’t need to. But in VR with the Pimax Crystal I use it straight out of the box. No glasses or lenses. No problem with vision. Perhaps I’ve just been lucky
Yes ashame you don’t live closer. If your eyes can focus happily at 1m without glasses then you'll be fine. For me without my reading glasses, it's a little too close.
The 2m standard that most other HMDs use (G2 included) is perfect for me.
Unless you DO usually need glasses at 1m distance?
In that case, the Crystal Light might be OK for me after all.
Wish there was one local that I could test.
