That's silly, but i feel Marco should stop focusing on that kinda stuff each time he posts something. It's getting a bit repetitive.
I would imagine the complainers are getting very repetitive to Marco. Remember Kunos started very small and only really catered for the extreme simracing enthusiast with Netkar Pro. They are becoming rudely awakened to just how unpleasant official forum moaners can be.

As I posted on the typically moaning Racedepartment thread about this news... imagine if Kunos were able to give us a nice off-road track to race all these shiny SUVs on? The taste of racing such things off-road in Horizon 3 has definitely got me wanting them in a sim too :)

Free is free.... I Sure Will take the macan,Panamera and cayenne for some rides on the green hell and black cat county!

And a good photo session also

The Maserati Levante is quite funny BTW:tup:

I don't mind that post at all. It starts out funny, it gives the facts and gives fuel for the fans of the franchise that frequent the forums, some heavy ammunition to deal with the cave trolls that know how to skirt the rules of the forum. No whining, no raging, no banning..it's all good:lol:

FS7
Some really dumb posts in that thread.
If one doesn't like certain cars/tracks one can simply ignore them and not use them. It's pretty silly to see people complaining about free content.

Most AC threads on RaceDepartment devolve into arguments like that, it's sad.

Free cars are free cars. I don't know why people are surprised; of course they're not going to offer things like the Cayman GT4 or Moby Dick for free. They'll offer the latest road cars for Porsche promotional purposes.

Sim racers obsessed with driving nothing but the highest-performing models (or just race cars) are missing out. I used to be of a similar attitude, but the diverse monthly DLC in FM6 had me trying each and every car. Some of the models you'd least expect to enjoy turn out to be a lot of fun. The Macan is actually quite entertaining.

Absolutely. That new little Audi is a good example, I expected nothing of it and ended up liking it quite a bit, so much that I did a club race with it. I haven't driven the Levante yet but that seems to be the same case, genuinely surprised at how many people really like it. If it has wheels and a motor, I'll drive/race it.

I see your point, but I don't think that is the best comparison.

The S1 is basically a 4WD hot hatch, a type of car that car enthusiasts usually love and has been very popular since the 80's or so.

What I mean is that, unlike a big, heavy SUV, it is expected to be fun and people look forward to drive them.

And for the record, I'm not complaining. As I've mentioned several times, I'm all for road cars. 👍

I was replying to SlipZtrEm about some people only liking high performance/race cars? The point was that there are cars in this game (and other games) that one might think they have no interest in but actually turn out to be great fun if given a chance, whether it be a hot-hatch street car or a big SUV. With so many people complaining about street cars being included in a "racing simulator" the Audi was my most recent recollection of a street car turning out to be a lot of fun.

Interesting post by Marco. But it makes me a bit sad. Kunos is such a passionate team and they really love what they are doing. And now these whiners are giving them a hard time. Marco should probably ignore them because he won't be able to satisfy these people no matter what he does or says. Even if Kunos would give away all 24 cars for free these whiners would still be complaining because of a certain model missing.

Whats funny and sad at the same time is the fact that sim racing is a rather expensive hobby. I mean, i bought a 300 euro wheel a couple of weeks ago and there are people who spend a lot more than that for a wheel base alone. And those whiners are actually unable to spend 20 or 30 bucks for the cars they want to drive soooo desperately? Rather than just spending 20 or 30 bucks, they keep complaining, raging and whining on the internet all day long? I mean, serious. That's so stupid. But i guess that's the way some people are nowadays.

I saw the context and I understood what you were trying to say.

It's just the part about the expectations of a hot hatch being fun versus a SUV that I don't agree so much. But I'm just being picky, so don't mind me. 👍

Thats the thing about being a developer, you cant ignore it, i dont why we do it to ourselves but we are drawn to negativity, its the same with every developer ive ever talked to. So many of my friends have got depressed, left the scene or need some form of counselling as a result of the ****ery of the feedback they get. Its massively common to work 50-70+ hours in a week at times, as a result you generally arent in the best state of mind and pair that with some complete fools spewing garbage out of their keyboards and it can result in a real bad time. On paper being a game dev is one of the silliest possible moves to make for a career but its a drug, the euphoria you get some finishing something whether its a new tyre model or new feature, game mode or animation it sinks its claws real deep, its just a shame that they just keep being called lazy when the fact is they cant humanly work any harder without losing their minds.

I wasn't making that comparison though, I never said anything about a SUV, my comments were in reference to the never-ending street cars vs. race cars debate. Anyway... :)

Any update on when the Porsche pack is due to land? As disappointed as I am that there has been no talk of the Carrera GT being included, I am hanging out to drive the rest of them.

I can see myself spending a lot of time setting hot laps in the "holy trinity" to see which is fastest around each circuit.

Speaking of which - am I missing something or is there no lap time leaderboard in time trial or hot lap mode? I have heard of third party add-on leaderboards for PC, but surely there must be a way to store and compare lap times on the PS4?? Time trials is basically the reason I bought this game!

Seeing it's missing from the PC version too (unless you install an app), it won't be in the console version neither. Should check out the official forum see if this would be in the pipeline, no idea.

But in the meantime, i hope we can get the following section a bit more crowded :P:

What does it take to implement leaderboards? Although Codemasters is a bigger company than Kunos, I consider DiRT Rally and AC to be of comparable proportions. DiRT Rally has a ton of leaderboards which motivate me to give the different stages my best attempts, so I'd love to see leaderboards implemented in AC too. All I've been doing in AC so far is to take cars to tracks in practice mode, which is good fun in its own right, but I think I need leaderboards before I'll see a reason to use the hotlap mode and worry more about speed than physics.

Agreed. I like to compare 3 or 4 different cars on the same track, but at the moment I rely on memorising the lap times for that particular session in order to form a comparison.

It would be nice to store the best lap for each car (ala Gran Turismo) so that you can form a more consistent comparison over time. I'm still not sold on the AI in AC, so for me at least, this is the core of the game

This we do have on PC under the profile option, select car or track and the best time for that combo is displayed. That wasn't ported over to consoles?

Its not that its hard to implement but that to host the leaderboards you need to rent a server which means constant server usage with exponential data usage depending on the number of users on the leaderboard, ultimately its barely taking up any space but renting a server is always a risk.

It could be, I guess I've never gone searching for it. It would be nice just to see a complete list of all cars on that particular track though, rather than having to look car by car.

I'll check it out tonight

Were people complaining about the free cars as i didn't see it?
If I'm not mistaken, there was even some belly aching on the official forums as well. For some reason, people lose their G/D minds in this genre. There are seriously some people who are fairly influential in this genre who 100% should be in psychotherapy 4-5 days a week. I'm not going to get into specifics, but I'm sure some of you remember a certain person trying to blow up @brownninja97's reputation a while back. It didn't work, so that troll moved onto something and someone else, I'm sure. Personally, I have never been back to his sad excuse for a blog since that incident. Frankly, I can't believe that person hasn't been blacklisted on all the major forums, but now I've gone on a wild tangent.

You're right. Assetto Corsa absolutely needs some type of leaderboard system, especially now that they've entered the console market. While I do believe Kunos should stick to their core values and not soften anything or modify things greatly just because AC is now on consoles, they do need to adjust and cater to their audience. At one time it was only PC users and they seemed to do a good job catering to them because it became the most popular sim in a short amount of time. They're not just dealing with PC players anymore and Console players wishes and needs should be equally considered from this point moving forward.

Personally, I don't even know what the true difference is between Practice and Hotlap modes. I just figured out in my first week of playing AC that Hotlap mode would start me a few hundred yards behind the Start/Finish line, while Practice mode would have me leave the pits meaning I would have to run 9/10ths of a lap before starting my first "official" timed lap.

While in Hotlap mode, if you want to make some setup changes you will bring up the Pause Game menu (ESC key on PC) and select Back to the Pits. When you make your changes and go back on the track you're now starting from the Pits just like Practice mode did in the beginning. So, truthfully I have no idea why we have the two modes. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along and give the answer.
