The overall look kinda reminds me of GT5, even down to the crappy dark dynamic range :)
Though a bit more "sterile" in replays.
Either he's using the same lighting engine, which is middleware after all, or he studied GT5 intently :)

The coder did have good words to say about GT5 afterall, so he probably has a copy

Physics wise, the cars have a lot of heft and solidity to it, unlike the driving on ice feel of a lot of games like GT5 and iRacing. Even when using street tyres. Super soft slicks are pretty forgiving
Feels more like LFS
FFB feels better in iRacing though, but it's just a matter of difference and getting used to it.

I love the surface and curb sounds - nice and visceral.
Car sounds not so much, but some are decent.

When using an Xbox controller, there sure is a lot of feedback from the vibration, much more than using a wheel.
Though I kinda found it annoying :P

I've got a lot of work to do before I'm any good at this sim. Or maybe I shouldn't dive practically straight into the deep end? I'm using the Race Setup, albeit without stability control.

It makes me realize just how important all of the little things GT does to make you go faster. The splits easily being the biggest thing that I never took for granted how fast it made you.

I can't wait for an online racing series with the various GT cars, though!

might seem a silly question but is it possible to use head tracking with this game using Kinnect? I know you can pick them up quite cheap for around a tenner now, so it might be worth buying one if the game does support this feature.

I don't know about the Kinect, but I use a Playstation Eye camera with Facetracknoir. It works very well.

I always find games made by KUNOS Simulazioni, I struggle to drive near the limit and consistently. Hopefully one day I can figure out why.

Well it will support Oculus Rift. There's actually an option to use it right now in the beta in the settings. Don't know if it's active yet though.

Oculus Rift support is in theory available as there is a menu option for it, in practice there are bugs with it so not useable at the moment - e.g. some objects are in the wrong place for one of your eyes. I'm looking forward to when they have fixed those problems.

Assetto Corsa review in spanish showing the menus, the customizable HUD options and element and if you don't speak spanish, also you can see a mini gameplay with each car in different circuits from minute 5:22.

Oh man, I love gamermuscle, so hilarious.

Here's his first impressions with the 458:

and a classic video of him doing 60's style commentary over one of his hotlap replays:

So funny, omg, this kills me: "a quite queer line through that corner," "suspension... like a jelly," "I don't even know what HD stands for."

Wow, I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines buy a new monitor. Want this. But at least when I finally get it it'll look that much nicer.

Finally got to spend some quality time with AC. The driving is sublime. Bring on the content. Hopefully modders will buy into this platform.

As an aside: Is it possible to keep photos from displaying when I read this thread? I know folks like showing off their snapshots, but it makes the thread near to unreadable.

This is the first sim that I've played that's actually rather enjoyable on a pad (once you dial in the settings properly of course). Good news if you're feeling a bit lazy and can't be bothered to set the wheel up.

I've not been keeping track of this game since first getting the tech demo....is all this new content just added to the tech demo or has the game been released now ?

It has been released on Steam, though it is not the 100% finished game. What we have at the moment is a sort of limited content beta testing phase, "early access" version. Still 5 tracks and a fair few cars to play with, content being released on a 2 week basis leading up to the official launch.

This sucks. I want to love this sim. I really do. I even got the tech demo (not the one on steam, the one from before) and it looks awesome and feels good. However, both the car and track list look to be heavily european-based (which is natural since that's where they're based out of). I'm not really sure if I want to purchase the early access version on Steam. Truth be told I haven't followed this title very closely, so does anyone know if they plan on releasing american / canadian tracks and cars in the near future?

Just get it - take my word for it :) Content will come in time. You won't regret it, and it's worth the investment of 40 bucks to see what it has to offer.

What Im waiting on is for someone to do a TransAm mod. Can you imagine that? Flying around in some early 70s muscle cars. Don't really care where the tracks are located.

The game drives better than anything Ive raced before and the new wheel settings for the CSW are great. Im hoping for either AI or multiplayer for the first content. I need someone to race with. :D

Probably not, no.

Stuff may (almost certainly will) come through mods, but I wouldn't expect US/Canadian stuff out of the studio.

I think the planned track/car list is decent, and it's certainly one of the best driving experiences available at the moment. I guess it's up to you whether not having your local tracks is a deal breaker.

I'm so proud of how good a job Kunos did, they ABSOLUTELY blew all expectations away. Makes me so happy now everyone's finally believing in this project. The positive reaction is incredible, I love reading all the impressions. This is a new generation of sim racing and what I love most is that it's going to push all the other sim makers to really work that much harder and step out of their paradigms to try new things never been done before. This thing's gonna take off hugely like I always hoped it would. I can't wait for 1.0 so we can start really racing online.

Here's my favorite comment from the over 500 comments on VirtualR, the guy shares my sentiments exactly:
Hi all, It's not often I write on forums, but with the advent of Assetto Corsa I feel I must speak out. I'm a long long time sim racer, right back to the early days, Atari 2600 Pole Position anyone? I've been a part of computer racing in one form or another for many many years. Like many people Grand Prix Legends was what I would consider to be the first 'real' simulator, Crammonds F1 series was also great, but an 7.14mhz Amiga just didn't cut it in the graphics stakes!

Then came rFactor along with GTR2 & Evo what games, beautiful graphics, great physics and some superb mods. Onwards a few years to Project Cars and rFactor 2. If I'm honest both abit of a disappointment for me. sure, they are getting better all the time, but it's such a slow pace that I sometimes feel that i've just had enough of them, I still boot them up but invariably get frustrated and end up turning the PS3 on for abit of Gran Turismo 5... you may laugh, but really, it's just more believable, and most importantly more fun.

Now, Assetto Corsa... what can I say? This piece of software is in my opinion without a doubt the absolute best feeling simulator to date, and really, by some margin. Let me try explain. This is the only game so far that I've ever played (also GT5 to a point) that you just totally get lost in trying to go fast, the software becomes unimportant, the car does exactly what you'd expect it to, period... none of this slipping and sliding around like you're driving on ice (even with slicks at 20mph rF2!), or struggling to keep the car in a straight line, It's not reality if you can't do a few laps without flying off, I don't care how 'realistic' it's supposed to be, it's how it 'feels' that matters. In my opinion the physics engine in this software is by far and away the best out there, I don't want to knock pCars (or any other), I've been a member right from the beginning and it's getting better all the time, but taking the E30 out for a few laps of Imola and doing the same thing in ACorsa really does outline the differences in these two titles, driven one after the other pCars does indeed feel like an arcade game, the car just does not do what it should, simple as that. In ACorsa it just does. It's crisp, highly tactile, superb weight transfer, totally catch-able slides, and above all, completely believable.

With this title, a new wave of simulator has arrived. I'm very excited about the future of Assetto Corsa. Well done Kunos!

Even for triple-screen, that FOV is way off. Don't know how you can drive like that. It's like the steering wheel is in the back seat.
I don't use this FOV when I drive! I use a low FOV when driving, for example with rfactor 2 I use a low 24-27 FOV wit steering wheel OFF!
The FOV that you see in the video is only for the replay:cheers:

Assetto Corsa is made by italian guys who mainly care about italian and european cars with some exception, you might see a Viper a Corvette or a Ford in the future but I don't think Kunos will focus on american cars in particular. It will also depends if they'll add cars by request or not, so maybe if Kunos realize there's an high demand they might build them.

Or eventually you might see something coming out from modding. On virtualr.net a while ago I saw an AC/Shelby Cobra project for Assetto Corsa.

Probably this one. The model is done already, all we need is Kunos to start with mod support either in a future update or the release so people can start working on the physics aspect.
This game seems very promising as far as mods go. Both from the side of the developers and the community.
