Well, if the mod URD was making wasn't very good I doubt Kunos would have included it. But URD is known for their excellent quality so it was a no-brainer. I'm sure a license is still required in order for it to be added as official content, and the manufacturer probably wouldn't sign off on it if the quality wasn't very good. The Cobra was also added, not sure if Kunos already planned to add that car or if it was just due to its good quality, but it started its life as a high quality mod.
Same with Zandvoort: "The Dutch Zandvoort track is especially remarkable as it is the first track in Assetto Corsa not to be laser-scanned. Unlike the other tracks, Zandvoort hasn’t been produced 100% in-house but is based on a modding track that has been brought up to AC standards."

I wasn't saying every high quality mod will be included, but if a mod is going to be included it will likely need to be high quality (and probably something they were already looking to include). I'd say it's pretty unlikely that any/many mods will end up as official content, but there is precedent for it happening.

I was just trying to point out, mods which don't become official isn't a sign the mod isn't high enough quality. I should have said being a high quality mod doesn't mean it will ever be official content. But yes it was pretty much a given that URD would make a high quality car. I've read on the forums that the muira is the same as the mod car.

Right, and that's not what I was trying to say either. I just meant that if a mod is going to become official it would need to be really high quality, which I think is a given. If a certain mod doesn't become official that doesn't speak to its quality (or lack thereof), and I'd guess it has as much to do with Kunos' existing road map and licenses as it does the quality of the mod.

The VIR that Darren Blythe, Rigel & Arthur666 are working on is going to be a work of art compared to that half-a$$ed rip/conversion available on Race Department. I can't wait to get a chance to drive it. While I don't know a lot about VIR, I am aware of how it's been used, quite often, by the US car magazines for testing high performance vehicles.

Yeah, the current one is not very good and last I tried it the AI didn't work on it. Will be really nice to have a high quality one. 👍

I have done an AI fast lane for the existing VIR from RD, the AI is working fine.
This is the first version that I had to drive that track and it is now, as it used to be for Paul Newman, one of my favorite track.
To me it is better than no track, but I am just an average joe.:dunce:

I will be glad if a better version comes out to have even more fun.

Yeah, I've driven it several times for hot lapping, it's better than no VIR for sure (don't think I've ever seen it in another game). I could never get the AI to work though and don't know how to do fast lanes so I just never used it for much other than doing a few laps.

The screen shots look amazing. I don't know the track at all. How does it compare to Road Atlanta? I love the undulations of that place.

They're similar in some ways, probably not as much elevations change as Atlanta but lots of twisty bit. It's like an old country road, one of those tracks that feels like you're going somewhere.

I hope VIR contains all 6 variations. The Full Course is the most popular but personally I like the North Course best. The section from turns 7-17 is like a mini Nurburgring! I've loved this track ever since discovering it in Ferrari Challenge on PS3. Would be great to finally get to drive it with proper physics :D

I hope VIR contains all 6 variations.

From the thread...

"It's our intention to include all the current configurations which are Grand (West), Full, North, South and Patriot. Grand East isn't used anymore and there also used to be a Patriot reverse. If all goes to plan we'll have those as well. We already have the Full and North courses under testing."

I downloaded the update, even though we are waiting on updated tyre physics it feels pretty good, typical FWD handling. Have to bump up the final drive for most circuits but it's a fun car. New sounds are awesome, too. Well, interior at least.

Will have to try it as I can't find any exterior view replays. Internal sounds seem fine from the video I saw. For the moment on the older version, I have replaced the sounds with a modded Evo 190, as that seems close to the Primera's real life sound.

Hopefully we can still tweak the car's .ini files, as I add ballest to the Primera when running 90's BTCC and DTM races - the Primera is too OP compared to the other cars otherwise.

I just tried deleting the [DATA] section for the NSX mod and it does work! Unfortunately as someone pointed out there is no sound :ouch: Oh well, I'll keep the mod and just wait until it's updated I guess.

It's pretty annoying that updates break mods. Is there any way of knowing before downloading which mods work and which don't? Or you just have to look at the date it's uploaded compared to the latest update?

From what I remember, mods haven't been breaking with the recent updates. Meaning, v1.3 to 1.3.1 to 1.3.2 all the way to 1.4, where we are now the mods have remained the same. I think it was before v1.3 that mods would break with updates. I might be slightly off however, so please don't hold me to the exact version numbers.

Anyway, it's not that hard to fix that sound problem. You just have to download a sound fix file. Just look at the download sections of the more famous Assetto Corsa blogs for the current Sound Fix version. I recommend keeping the original files as well, in case the "Sound Fix" breaks any official cars. Then you can just rename the 2 files involved when you want to switch back and forth between whatever cars are causing the problem. I know this might seem like a major pain in the arse, but it's really not, if you're interested in driving old mods cars like the NSX that aren't being updated by whomever released them in the first place.

If you really want to get your hands dirty, you could probably just spend a week or however long it takes you to learn FMod and create your own custom sound files for these old no longer supported modded cars - then you'll never have to worry about applying "Sound Fixes" again.

In my opinion, this is what makes Assetto Corsa (on the PC) so incredible. There is literally almost nothing that you can't modify, if you take the time to learn. Myself? I'm thinking about getting into track building, or possibly modding cars. I don't currently have the time to devote to it, but I'm sure I will eventually. It will be nice to give back to the community that has already given me so much in only a few months.

I've seen that sound fix. It just seems like a temporary patch job to me though. Whenever the next update rolls around you need a new fix again. And as you said it can be a pain having to switch folders everytime you drive a different car. When I play I jump around in different cars quite a lot so having to Alt-Tab everytime is gonna be annoying.

I guess what I'm looking for is a permanent fix from Kunos' side. I could learn how to mod properly as you said, but time is a limited commodity for me right now and I prefer to just jump and race when I have free time. Plus if I replace the original sounds it won't be as accurate anyway.

Moddability is good but at times like these I can't deny the convenience of consoles

I think I used that sound fix a long time ago and haven't had any issues with the sounds of either mods or official cars ever since, neither do I ever have to swap folders, alt-tab or anything to make things work.

You can donate a sound to a silent car by going into another car's system folders [Steamlibrary>common>assettocorsa>content>cars] , going into the "sfx" folder and copying both the "GUIDs" and .bank file [which has the same name as the car]. Paste them into the NSX's sfx folder and replace the files that were here before.

You will need to rename the .bank file to the exact same name as the folder [car] you are in, and you will need to do the same in the GUIDs file. Just open it up, press ctrl+h and tell it to replace the donator car's name with your silent modded car's name.

Here's an example as if I were giving the E30 DTM the sound from the Cavalier BTCC.

That's encouraging news. I might just give the sound fix a try (after making backup first of course).

Replacing a sound isn't gonna cut it for me, I'd like the car to sound as accurate as possible. Thanks for the tip though 👍

EDIT: I've tried the sound fix. The NSX has sound now :D Unfortunately it doesn't sound as good as Niels rFactor NSX. Boo... Oh, and the fix doesn't mess with the original cars' sound either so it's safe to use 👍

Some recent mods that i can recommend:

cars: Mclaren MP4/4
Peugeot 504
Vauxhall cavalier

tracks: Bridgehampton

Tried all of these for the first time this evening, and they are all keepers
The track surface of Bridgehampton is awesome!

I have been using the "Sound Fix" every time a new version of AC is released and I've never had any problems. That is, until the most recent version. When I applied the Sound Fix, I thought everything was good. My old mod cars, like the NSX, had sound and it appeared all my official Kunos cars had sound as well. Until I tried running with the Lotus 25 or Lotus 72 (I think it was those two...I KNOW with 100% certainty it was two different old school open wheel Lotus cars). Neither car had sound!! WTF?!

I've been deleting a lot of mod cars from my AC directory. It was so exciting to download and install every freakin' car I came across when I was brand new to AC. Unfortunately, 80%+ kind of stink in my opinion. Those cheap, quick Forza rips... So, lately I've been sticking to Kunos cars and only the best quality mod cars. It's insane how big my Assetto Corsa folder was - something like 130 GB! My C:\ drive is only a 250GB SSD (232GB formatted). Thank god I have a second 256GB SSD (238GB formatted) installed in my laptop as well.

If you stick to only getting your mods from RaceDepartment or the AC forum they do a pretty good job of weeding out those crap/illegitimate rips. Occasionally one sneaks through but they usually yank it pretty quickly. But, even non-ripped mod cars can be really hit-or-miss as far as quality, there are some good ones though.

Yup...I learned the hard way. When I knew absolutely nothing about Assetto Corsa, or the mod scene, I probably just googled "Assetto Corsa download cars" or something like that, and just started downloading from any ole' place. Once I realized that Race Department or the AC Forums is the best way to find quality mods it was too late. I already had 60-70 cars/tracks downloaded and installed from other places.

The best thing about using Race Department, besides the fact that they weed out the really crappy stuff, is how you receive an update when a resource is updated. That is so fantastic!!

Hmm...I haven't tried the Lotus cars yet. I'll give them a check later. Thanks for the heads up 👍

I know what you mean by over downloading mods though  I got this disease back when I was playing rFactor, I think my track folder alone is like 25 GB and has 300+ tracks  Thankfully rFactor stock graphics isn't that great anyway so a few bad mods here and there doesn't stick out so much. With AC I've learnt my lesson and I'm only cherry picking the best cars/tracks. Even then you can still feel the difference in quality to AC's stock content (laser scanning is hard to beat).
