Oh poop.

Well, I'm afraid I'm going to have to go putative. There's only FOUR clubs I can think of where the club's official primary nickname (minus the word "the")* is longer in terms of syllables than the club's given name (minus FC/AFC).

Examples of this not being the case:
Sheffield Wednesday (5 syllables) - The Owls (1 syllable)
Everton (3 syllables) - The Toffeemen (3 syllables)

A point for each of the four. A bonus point if it's a fifth one I haven't thought of :D

* Not including secondary nicknames like Chelsea (2 syllables) "Pensioners" (3 syllables)
Name the two English teams with the letter 'X' in their they're there names.
Retreading old ground ('cos I was away), there's three since Oxford rejoined us...

Edit:
Port Vale/Valiants - Liquid (1pt)
Blackpool/Seasiders - daan (1pt)
Fulham/Cottagers - MildAshers (1pt)

Oh boo, I said City too quickly in my head.

Could we have Chelsea = Pensioners or is that too anachronistic?

2 syllables each there :D

It was surprisingly tricky to think of these in the first place - really short-named teams also have short nicknames (Arsenal/Gunners), while long nicknames turn up on long-named clubs (Railwaymen/Crewe Alexandra, Toffeemen/Everton). And then you have the boring ones which are just "City" or "Rovers".

I really need to go and relearn what a syllable is. There's no team just called "strength", is there?

Norwich - Canaries?
Ipswich - Tractor Boys?

I would guess no because I'd assume we include City/Town/County, no?

Ah of course, didn't think of that.

Saddle = two
ers = one

That makes three to me, but I guess people have different pronunciations.

No, 'cos "City". Four syllables each.

Warsaw is an interesting one. I suppose you could argue it's "sah-duh-luhs" - but then you could argue Port Vale is "vey-ull". Which would set you back to the 1pt you already have :D

It's not on my list though, so you're not coming in. You could use it as a tie-breaker if scores are level though...

Can I put some Scottish ones in there? Notes original post doesn't mention a country or league...

Arbroath - Red Lichties
Clyde - Bully Wee

And a serious one.

Blackpool - Seasiders.

Southport (sandgrounders) and Gateshead (tynesiders) both work but they are Conference sides. I can't think of any more football league sides.

Argh, I hope this isn't something sly regarding the alternate nicknames because the only thing which springs to mind is Reading being historically known as the Biscuitmen. But as we all know, Royals only has two syllables like Reading itself does.

Long nicknames;

Lilywhites 3-4 Preston North End
Cod Army 3-3 Fleetwood Town
Red Devils 3-3 Crawley Town
Red Devils 3-7 Manchester United
Bantams 2-4 Bradford City

No home wins there.

So I couldn't remember the fourth team again and opened the Notepad file it was in. Turns out it was Walsall. Handily, that means that it breaks the 3-way 1pt tie like I accidentally said.

So uh... Liquid's go.

Swish.

Blackburn Rovers are the only team who have the privilege of displaying their club logo on their corner flags.

Why?

I'm guessing it can't be for winning x amount of leagues because they have only won it a handful of times and more teams would be able to do it..

Pity?

*I should add that I really do know this one and it's from a very long time ago

I have failed to stump Famine again.

But the rest of you are free to try and answer. @MildAshers your guess was incorrect but not wildly inaccurate.
