I haven't been able to connect all day. I installed the widget yesterday and ran races all afternoon. I set it up again before going to bed, excited to wake up to a ton of credits. I woke up and it only ran one race!:banghead: I assume that is when the server issues started. Oh well, will try again later.

Same here. I just installed the widget Tuesday afternoon and barely got 2 hours worth of use.

I'm logged into gran-turismo.com and to the PSN on the PS3 but the widget cannot connect. I'm in Norway btw.

Edit:

I logged on through a cookie...when I tried manual log on I got the maintenance notice.

Can I have one? :dopey:

I can't access this at the moment because the computer I use for it is not available to me at the moment, but this is still a fantastic utility. Thanks, yonis.

Anyone had any luck today? I got back on PSN just by trying over and over to login, and it finally let me. Trying to see if it works for the widget. Im also cycling thru all of the severs, as soon as i see one gets hung up. But its probably all in vain...

Quick clarification PSN is down today and may be down until Monday...

There's finally at least some words from Sony about it available on the web.

I suppose I should just close down the thread for now, then...

Also: I'm working on another large update to the Widget. More details soon...

Just unlocking quickly for a status update.

It looks like Sony is restructuring PSN quite a bit because of their massive security breach, which means that the Widget may not authenticate when PSN comes back online. So, I'm releasing an update shortly after they come back online. This update will have fewer new features in it than my normal updates, but should play friendlier with Sony's authentication servers.

Regardless of whether or not the current version will authenticate when PSN is back online, I recommend that you not use version 2.0 and wait until I have B-Spec Grinder saving cookies between sessions. Not only will saving cookies improve uptime when PSN's authentication is down, but it will reduce the amount of traffic to PSN, which will hopefully cast less suspicion on the use of the Widget (as they mention they're increasing logging of unusual traffic).

Thanks! :)

PlayStation Network has been restored to California, which means I can go ahead and test my new authentication code. Hoping to have an update online before I go to bed tonight. Again, I advise that you not use version 2.0 in the meantime! :)

Thank you very much for your patience. I'll report back in a bit with a status update.

Got a quick status update. I have the Widget successfully authenticating and accounting for people who haven't changed their password yet. Also, the Widget now hangs onto the session between relaunches, so it doesn't hit the PlayStation Network unless it needs to.

I'm currently doing some quick testing to make sure everything is okay before I push the new version live. Stay tuned, we're not far off from a release now.

Thanks yonis:tup: You are a hero to the GT5 community! Widget is running races in Wisconsin, Bob seems a little rusty but he is driving and that's what makes him happy.

Seems to be working fine on my end. All my races are filling up 16 slots, and the Bob's look happy to be behind the wheel again.

Only 1/6 drivers in use though for the past few hours, even though I have like 75 friends on GT. Could it be that people aren't back into the widget routine yet?

edit: nvm working fine, thanks for this widget man!

Has this been made into an iPhone app yet?

I haven't made it into an iPhone or Android app.

If I did make a smartphone app based on this Widget, given the battery limitations, what would you want the app to be able to do?

1. Run while in backround
2. Driver selections (from friends list)
3. select race to be used (will grind selected race if chosen)

also, basically all of the features the widget has currently.

Is that asking alot?

My main concern is running while in the background, actually. It isn't possible on iOS unless you couple it with another service, like background music or location. It could be done on Android, but it would have to be done in a careful manner so as not to drain the battery.

So, I dunno. We'll see. I've been studying developing for both platforms, but I'm not very good at either yet!

Couldn't put the app into idle for a certain amount of time based on what race was selected and then wake it up after that to capture results / start the next race ?

Great work Yonis, thanks!

Just a little help if you can. I'm self boosting with 3 accounts and no matter what combination I try B spec grinder won't use all 16 slots. It only uses one of the drivers at a time. The total number of drivers is 16. I've tried setting it to 1 thread and leaving a 20s delay just in case the system thinks some drivers are still racing but it still doesn't fill up all the slots. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I've thought of that, but I'm still concerned that running about ≈20 HTTP requests every 20 minutes may have a negative effect on battery life. Also, if a request fails (as it's prone to do over 3G) then it needs to try again until it goes through.

That doesn't mean I wouldn't want to try it to see if it works. I'm still very curious.

Don't worry about battery limits. With iOS4, Apple killed battery life by at least a quarter if not a third on iPhone 3Gs. It was noticed by everyone around me who has a 3Gs. I have to charge twice during the day. Used to be able to get away with charging while sleeping and having 5% or so by bed time.

I use my phone far more than I do either of our PC's. Me personally, I have vision limitations which make PC usage not all that enjoyable anymore :(

As mentioned before, running in the background is at the top of my list. Whatever you come up with will be greatly apprwciated. Sony failed to deliver.
