Bad decisions by PD

The slipstream boost is ridiculously stupid still. My 425 HP car cannot get away from something with like 240.

Real life, no freaking way! They shouldn't have made a slipstream if it's this unrealistic. Should be very slight if you're gonna guess.

If you're not able to pull away from a car with 80 less horsepower you just suck at driving good sir.

I just did 3 10 lap races to gold the Super GT series located in the extreme events. Guess what my prize was? A R34 Skyline race car (not a super GT) from GT4. Yes, a standard car.

Fine whatever I'll sell it for $100 000 and finally buy the Zonda....

"This car cannot be sold".

Ok I'll go do the Like the wind event. I won the Minolta race car from GT4. Another standard car. Guess what? "This car cannot be sold"

it's funny, every forum i go to people are flipping out hahaha.

i agree, these things are really annoying and there were many dumb decisions.

i really hope at least a couple are fixable but looking at pd's history, i doubt it.

makes you wonder what fm4 has coming up ?

That's absurd.

BTW to last post from someone; I'm on a lot of automotive enthusiast forums, the atmosphere is even more negative over there, especially because most people are not real gamers, they just expected everything PD has promised them, they got lied to and they're angry.

Mainly, the paint thing is just... dumb. I mean, it's so damn frustrating to COLLECT paint colors. And then when you actually get the chips, you can only use the color once! I had this sweet red metallic that I really liked and I used it on the FT86 -- I would like to paint other cars that color but it's a no go.

WTF? I somehow missed that news... I haven't got a car I care enough about to paint yet but that royally sucks. I thought you could use the color an unlimited number of times once you had it... I am going to have to buy cars a certain color just to keep painting my stuff? LAME....

But the thread title is right... a lot of this is bad decisions... none gamebreakingly bad, but so many of them that just make no sense!

I too am getting really tired of the obvious fillers to stretch the game experience out... it's like they knew they didn't have a very full game so made everything take as long as possible so you feel like you got more...

Everything from menus that are stupidly slow and redundant (the afore mentioned recieve a car feature) to the stupid level locks that make you crank your way through the game slowly when if you are good enough you should just be able to move on if you want..

It seems like some bizarro mix between a despereate ploy to make the most out of what content is there and someone who loves the process of doing something more than the actual doing it... Note to Kaz: Waiting forever for GT5 did not make it more enjoyable and making us wait through multiple button presses and screens to do basic things does not make the experience feel more tangible or rewarding. When I buy a part for my car it's reasonable to ask if I want to install it to be sure but don't then make the game wait a second or two before confirming it's installed like there is actually a little man in there installing that turbo for me and I am waiting for him to be done! Just do it when I confirm I want it done and let me be on my way...

And I am sorely dissapointed in the online as well... especially the difficulty with which you have to share your track maker tracks. I got tired of karting on the built in tracks and whipped out a few in track maker that (if not partiuclarly good) were at least new... then realized I can only play them with others if I mark that track as my one sharable track (WTF?) and then get everyone I want to race with to download that track from me via my profile...

WTF? That track file can't be that big.... let me host a room with custom tracks and people can download the track from me while they wait in the lobby... then we can play! As it is I doubt I will ever get much use from the custom tracks due to how much of a pain it is to spread them around - and it doesn't help that as of yet I still haven't really gotten it to spit anything out that particularly impressive (why do non go kart environments force a long straight at the start finnish? This is a curser for any karting race as the insane kart draft pretty much means easy win for the second place guy) :(

The more I look at this the more it's an obvious rush job with poor project management... I am aware there is lots of good stuff in there too but it's so poorly implimented in most cases that it's often a double edged blade...

Weather - Awesome that it's there but: limited locations - causes ugly jaggy water spray effects - hits the frame rate - MASSIVELY harder to drive cockpit view than other views.

Day/Night - Awesome again but then jaggy shadows and headlights that don't work when you go up a hill leaving you totally screwed for direction

GT5 is like the New Vegas of car games... but at least New Vegas really did have as much or more content as previous versions...

In a sort of way I'm happy that is happening. Sony will get their shiit together and hire people that aren't lacking in common sense.

lol Sony wont be firing anyone. not if gt5 sold over 1.8 mil units in 2 days, regardless of the internet rage.

The same could be said about your math skills. :sly:

I've experienced the same thing. Your car can be topped out but the slipstream effect is amplified above what I would think is a realistic amount. It sometimes feels like the AI does have a rubberband system.

Didn't they spend over $60 million developing it? If so then they gotta move a lot more than 1.8 million copies.

100% agree. Watching the credits they have a shockingly small development team for such a giant game and they definitely need to hire more people, not just for obvious things like modeling cars and tracks but for career and menu design. GT5 is advanced in visuals and physics, but its design feels a generation old, like all the other Japanese developers.

They already payed for it with gt5p selling in the millions.

not sure if there is one, but is there like a master list on this forum of things that need to be fixed/updated/changed/etc with the game ?

if not, maybe someone should make one. :)

if there is already, whoops, i didnt really check. :)

Uhh. Where do I start. I hate to say this but if they had taken GT4 and translated it to PS3 graphics with the physics and sound of GT5, we might have a better game than what 6 years of development did for GT5. I played GT4 for years and I barely got to 50%. I am at 43% completion with GT5 in less than a week. They focused too much on small detail and not on gameplay and options as previous GT's brought to the table. I won't be waiting in line for GT6. I will wait for reviews. I hate to do that but I am highly disappointed in the game. Even if it wasn't finished, how much longer would they have needed. The longer it takes the more it gets outdated. The reputation of GT is going downwards, they have or will loose alot of the newcomers. There are a few good things about GT5 but just as everything in life, the negative out weighs and always take from the positive. DLC and huge patch additions can possibly save this game. Bring back brake upgrades, take out car delivery and just send it directly to garage(its annoying), take out kart racing(why add it now), add the tracks people want(this is huge) put manufacturer races back in the manufacturer keep them away from the other racing events and drop b-spec. We bought the game to race, not let the computer race. Make a GT5 B-Spec game for that(too much focus here). They didn't stay true to older GT titles that worked. Alot of this stuff is taking up valuable space. Space that can be utilized to bring more tracks and desired cars. Honestly I think I will put GT5 on the back burner. 5 months ahead of schedule. Bummer. I will only play it sparingly now.

Haha, that picture is hilarious. Made my day

that's 2 day sales man. Not total a sales, and its predicted 2.5 for the week. usually after 2 to 4 weeks it will start to slow down, but Sony released this game before xmas for a reason:) anyway its made its money back and then some in 2 days, I'm sure they will be loving the numbers atm.

The same could be said about your math skills. :sly:

I have found this to be most obvious with karts... I think a draft adds something like 20mph to your top speed... it's far better to be in 2nd than first with karts.

:dunce: touche sir. touche.

Had they have made this game in a time frame of say... 6 months then yeah this game would be pretty good considering.

BUT WHY are there so many things in this game that are just so stupid and flawed? I cannot get my head around it all.

Licenses. A common feature in GT games and they make a return, I am glad. By why on earth are they there if the stupid and arbitrary level system is in place? The leveling system is the most stupid thing in this game, it's totally useless and frustrating and in no way rewarding.

The more I play this game the more I dislike it. Five things that would make this game instantly better and pretty much redeemable:

1. Remove the level system and just have license requirements.
2. Make B Spec how it was in GT4. don't have it as it's own career mode which is boring, slow and useless.
3. Make it so you can collect colours, yes. But you can use the ones you collect as many times as you like.
4. Remove every standard car from the game entirely and make those that are standard now and should be premium, premium.
5. Literally double the amount of events available to race in A Spec mode. I have played this game for about 10 hours and I am somehow 30% through the game. What the hell.

I haven't played the game, and sadly it seems the time that I'll be playing the game this coming Christmas....

But for me, base on reading user's experiences in the internet, The AI improves as you level up is the thing that disappoints me is that in the beginning you'll be experiencing GT4's stupid AI, I mean its ridiculous....I understand and happily accepted the idea of Yamauchi that simulation damage should be accessible to high level players...but c'mon, not the type of GT4 AI should be the starting AI....

so far that's my only complain....

That's that happens when a game strives for realism.. but people just don't get it!!! :scared:

So in reality a car has only 10 rims that fit it?
If the game strives for realism, why can't I change my bloody brakes?
Why is it I drive 3 laps on any track without any contact with anything and my car looses its rigidity. (there needs to be a percentage given for damage)
In reality, anything is possible if u have enough coin therefore the reality argument is invalid

Level Grind: OMG level grinding is sucking the life out of me. For the fans who've raced every GT game, competing in the Lightweight K Cup and the Lupo Cup is major boring ****. I've done a million laps around the GT Prologue courses and I think after 6 years I've earned the right to get to the nitty gritty hardcore stuff as soon as I can. If i have enough cash to buy a freakin Corvette Z06 2009 at level 8 i should be able to buy it and skip these ****** little races.

This is something where the new level system might come handy in future version of GT if PD do it right.

Imagine if when GT6 comes out, you could import your level and progress from GT5 directly into that. Then GT6 would immediately adjust into your level of play and you'd be right where you've earned to be. Newcomers on the other hand would have it easier, starting from level 0.

We'll just have to wait and see if PD gets it right when GT6 eventually comes out.

Agreed, the core gameplay is perfect imo, but it seems like there's a pile of placeholders that must be part of features that don't work yet. I don't doubt at all that they were forced to put it out for Thanksgiving.

That being said though, I'm much happier having it now instead of waiting even longer, the issues that exist are hardly game ruining for me.

Agreed, I am hoping that some of these things will change over the next few weeks/months. Gear changes for sure, saving a tune, more options in race lobbies, damage and such..

The paint is way off my radar. It is odd that they did it the way they did but it does not bother me one bit. I am just happy to be able to change the color of the cars.

I agree that many simple things have been done in weird ways.

Paints: I don't even mind collecting them, but at least let us use them infinitely once we have them! A general colour pallette should be there, with special paints exclusive to manufacturers given with cars or as rewards.

Tuning: Where are brakes? Model brake fade etc properly. That's a pretty important part of a racing game!

Small items are exaggerated, tone down the boost you get from oil and in some cases they need to greatly increase the increase you get with forced induction. Speaking of forced induction - why have they made it available on less cars? So if an NA car needs new exhaust manifold(s) and the like to do the conversion, charge us extra for that car! It's not realistic denying the upgrade because it doesn't exist in common kit form from HKS, custom fabrication is far more important to real racing that bolt on stuff.

Wheels: Scrap the different wheels available for different cars thing! I know all too well in real life there are different PCD's, offsets, widths, and face offset for brake clearance options for different makes that mean they may not fit certain cars, but that's why video games are fun, you should be able to change something visual without these restrictions because it doesn't harm anyone and really doesn't detract from reality at all - certainly much less than an oil change giving you 20+ HP.

Let us change size, width and offsets within a range please. I want wheels to be like tuning suspension with benefits and downfalls, as well as requirements to fit different brakes and tyres - no big brakes available on stock rims, no racing tyres available on 20" rims.

Everything else is pretty minor and has been said over and over. These are the three fairly minor things I would like to see adressed.

Lots of bad decisions.

The painting system
No rewinning cars
General menu layout, pretty tedious
Damage unlocked at higher levels
Car delivery system
Individual gear ratio tuning and brake upgrades gone
B-spec being it's own mode instead of an option to a/b-spec the same race
No fast forward in b-spec

After GT5 dropped, I thought I would be retiring my XBOX and forza3 game. But now I'm looking for other racing game alternatives. Damn...hate to say it...but GT5 is mediocre at it's best. WTF
I agree with every rant in this thread. But don't hold your breath thinking PD will be making any changes for us. They obviously have their heads so far up their arse, they thought we would be happy with this half-ass game they released. I used to enjoy looking at my race replays, now I get annoyed because it looks like I just played GT4 on a PS2.
Really Kaz?? Six long years to import old cars and old tracks in this game without remodeling any of them? Even if they did remodel some of the tracks, they still look like a direct import(rez-up) from GT4. Anywayz...enough hot air from me. Gonna crack open this NFS Hot Pursuit I reluctantly purchased today out of boredom and pretend GT5 never released. Time for me to move on. Forza 4 and Shift2 on my wishlist for 2011.
Good luck with all the ranting...I'm behind you guys.
Peace
