Mainly, the paint thing is just... dumb. I mean, it's so damn frustrating to COLLECT paint colors. And then when you actually get the chips, you can only use the color once! I had this sweet red metallic that I really liked and I used it on the FT86 -- I would like to paint other cars that color but it's a no go.
WTF? I somehow missed that news... I haven't got a car I care enough about to paint yet but that royally sucks. I thought you could use the color an unlimited number of times once you had it... I am going to have to buy cars a certain color just to keep painting my stuff? LAME....
But the thread title is right... a lot of this is bad decisions... none gamebreakingly bad, but so many of them that just make no sense!
I too am getting really tired of the obvious fillers to stretch the game experience out... it's like they knew they didn't have a very full game so made everything take as long as possible so you feel like you got more...
Everything from menus that are stupidly slow and redundant (the afore mentioned recieve a car feature) to the stupid level locks that make you crank your way through the game slowly when if you are good enough you should just be able to move on if you want..
It seems like some bizarro mix between a despereate ploy to make the most out of what content is there and someone who loves the process of doing something more than the actual doing it... Note to Kaz: Waiting forever for GT5 did not make it more enjoyable and making us wait through multiple button presses and screens to do basic things does not make the experience feel more tangible or rewarding. When I buy a part for my car it's reasonable to ask if I want to install it to be sure but don't then make the game wait a second or two before confirming it's installed like there is actually a little man in there installing that turbo for me and I am waiting for him to be done! Just do it when I confirm I want it done and let me be on my way...
And I am sorely dissapointed in the online as well... especially the difficulty with which you have to share your track maker tracks. I got tired of karting on the built in tracks and whipped out a few in track maker that (if not partiuclarly good) were at least new... then realized I can only play them with others if I mark that track as my one sharable track (WTF?) and then get everyone I want to race with to download that track from me via my profile...
WTF? That track file can't be that big.... let me host a room with custom tracks and people can download the track from me while they wait in the lobby... then we can play! As it is I doubt I will ever get much use from the custom tracks due to how much of a pain it is to spread them around - and it doesn't help that as of yet I still haven't really gotten it to spit anything out that particularly impressive (why do non go kart environments force a long straight at the start finnish? This is a curser for any karting race as the insane kart draft pretty much means easy win for the second place guy)
The more I look at this the more it's an obvious rush job with poor project management... I am aware there is lots of good stuff in there too but it's so poorly implimented in most cases that it's often a double edged blade...
Weather - Awesome that it's there but: limited locations - causes ugly jaggy water spray effects - hits the frame rate - MASSIVELY harder to drive cockpit view than other views.
Day/Night - Awesome again but then jaggy shadows and headlights that don't work when you go up a hill leaving you totally screwed for direction
GT5 is like the New Vegas of car games... but at least New Vegas really did have as much or more content as previous versions...
