Bad decisions by PD

After GT5 dropped, I thought I would be retiring my XBOX and forza3 game. But now I'm looking for other racing game alternatives. Damn...hate to say it...but GT5 is mediocre at it's best. WTF
I agree with every rant in this thread. But don't hold your breath thinking PD will be making any changes for us. They obviously have their heads so far up their arse, they thought we would be happy with this half-ass game they released. I used to enjoy looking at my race replays, now I get annoyed because it looks like I just played GT4 on a PS2.
Really Kaz?? Six long years to import old cars and old tracks in this game without remodeling any of them? Even if they did remodel some of the tracks, they still look like a direct import(rez-up) from GT4. Anywayz...enough hot air from me. Gonna crack open this NFS Hot Pursuit I reluctantly purchased today out of boredom and pretend GT5 never released. Time for me to move on. Forza 4 and Shift2 on my wishlist for 2011.
Good luck with all the ranting...I'm behind you guys.
Peace

Peace bro, I know how you feel.

I'll be happy with the 3rd part of the other racing game on the other console for now, STILL playing it.

I think this game might just highlight why western developers have taken over Japan, by offering a fleshed out experience beyond the core game. It's a given this far in that the core has to be sorted, but this seemingly bitty approach to GT5's development with half implemented features is so out of kilter with most of Western gamers that it's hard to adapt.

I know hardcore GT fans who are upset with this game and ones who just like racing games who are upset by this game, so can you imagine how upset casuals might feel? You're not going to gain new fans with an experience as limited as this game seems to be, because most people don't really care about the core game as we do.

GT5 is a game of extremes.... Some things are done extremely well and some very poor.... Its a shame really... IMO they couldve left all the 800 Standards out and only left in the nice new and re-vamped tracks along with the 230+ Premo cars... That would have been a lot better I think. The thing is now after having a taste of proper Premo cars I dont want anything to do with standards... theyre just boring... Also being a tuning buff I am also disappointed in the settings department.

That is definitely a feature which took a couple of steps back... I mean a fully customizable transmission where you can only change the final gear?!?!? Really?!?!?

Good one, look how big Final Fantasy was in the 90s, look how small it is now and look how big Fallout / Bethesda / Warhammer / etc is now. Those are just examples, I loved Japanese games when I was a kid, now they seem outdated and repetitive and especially linear.... look at GT.

I STILL can't get my head around the tranny thing, like really, wtf?

Hi

The things I dislike are the same mentioned, but I'll mention again, for PD record, as I hope they will read this thread.

I think the worst part is that many things that drive us crazy are newly introduced things:

Painting cars: Colecting colors from the previous owned cars, seriously?

Car delivery: WTF, why? 5 minutes of my life for each car I win! Just put them in the garage right away!

Where is the garage: Like was said, why is the garage, the most important place in the menu, located as 1 of 8 small icons in the corner of the screen?

Fetching Standard Cars in Used Cars Lot: It's annoying, specially finding a car for Pick-Up Truck challenge. Eventually will appear a Ford F-150, but, in my case, blew my brains out until it appeared.

B-Spec: WTF again, why? Make exactly the same races and trophies, as in A-Spec again? No fast forward? Tire limitation? Why not in A-spec also? Cause you just put some slick tires in a piece of **** and completely blew the opposition in A-Spec!!!

Some other thing are just silly as it is like:

The L1/R1 shortcuts disappeared, why?

The criteria for the models whom is possible to race modify are completely nonsense, probably out of the head of someone high at the time... A RM Suzuki Capuccino, but nor a RX7, a Supra or a Skyline?

This, like the Standard Vs. Premium Cars shows how unfinished the game is, but let's hope for updates!

There's very good and very bad here...!

The Good...

I'm no ace racer, lets say that from the start - but the CAR physics feels sublime. The TT challenge felt like driving on ice, but GT5 feels very natural - intuitive

That Stealth Merc SLS AMG - OMG!!! Sig Edition worth it for that car alone

Kart racing is huge, intense fun.

(and I actually quite like that the standards are included. Perhaps a few more should be in.... and Ohhh, and sell them at a bargain price...)

The Bad

Lots of stuff above ^ and elsewhere. Some of it major, some of it trivial.

To pick a quote from above...

That's that happens when a game strives for realism.. but people just don't get it!!!

I've said on here before, that the "Real Driving Simulator" tagline is starting to be GT's Achillies Heel. To promise such realism, and with such sincerity and conviction, really requires delivery to back it up.

I started to get concerned with the tuning options from the first few events...

Let's see - I want some more BHP for my E Type Jag and early Nissan Skyline - and one of the options is to swap to a sports ECU!! I think I'd get laughed out of town if I went to a classic car restorer / tuner and asked for a re-map for an E Type.

GET A GRIP:grumpy:

AI "Physics" feels strange. In the early Japanese clasics race I was racing a highly tuned early Skyline and an ancient beat up Honda Civic just left me standing on the start finish straight :dopey:

Lost count of the number of times the AI has nudged me off the track - The second lap of the Top Gear Vee Dub race was particularly frustrating

This is pretty much how I feel. The flaws of GT4 are STILL HERE! How is that possible all these years later? Was this game even tested at all? I think not.

They spent too much time making demos for Ferrari, Mercedes and a PSP version, and picking their noses?

Much of all the best work in GT5 was in the first GT HD and GT5P releases, many of the cars too! (100 cars in GT5P are in GT5 proper, so they only made 100 more?)

They just seem to have wasted soooo much time.

It's a good game, but it is full of holes. As an overall package it's rather hideous. Too many menus that need loading time, too many 'confirm' buttons, and just fluff and crap.

In game, on the right track, with the right tyres, it's fantastic though.

My issue is that by the time they have fixed the bugs and features etc, I'll have finished the game and won't really care too much.

Sony were right to probably push PD to release it, because KY would have just kept tinkering forever. He is rather rubbish really from a point of view of getting things done to a target and released. I bet they were adding new features six months ago, rather than still aiming for the target they set years ago.
Should have finished it 2 years ago, released it finished really well as it stood, and then done updates for new features. Instead it's LOADS of stuff all 80% finished...

Dave

Main problem for me is that PD have spread themselves so thin by trying to put £150 worth of features into a £35 game. They've bitten off more then they could chew, so instead of making everything in it perfect, they are at 60-70% on most things, 100% on a select few, and as low as 0-10% on some very annoying failings.

Still, the game is well worth £35.

Bring on GT6.

Does anyone actually think about how ABSURD it is they release a half finished product after 6 years of development? Regardless the options and possibilities etc, I know the fanboys love tinkering about that.

Anyone else noticed, you can buy catalytic conversion bypass on some cars that didn't even have cats? I mean, I am really nitpicking here but PD have dropped the ball big time on attention to detail in so many other area's.

But what does development time have to do with your perception of the finished product?

Knowing how the Japanese work, they certainly weren't sitting around dossing for 6 years. There is definitely 6 years worth of work in GT5 - it just depends whether or not you think its gone into the right areas.

I'm sure they could have released the game much earlier if they didn't have to include 3D, heard tracking etc. But they did. Most people won't use these features so don't even think about them, but a lot of time was needed to implement them into the game.

Not quite

If you pay attention, much of the complaints reported are from some things PD spent some time and money changing and could use this time in a more usefull way, like the car delivery system, which is useless, makes the players use time in menus and menus, while they should be playing or the fact that 80% of the cars are bought in the used car menu in a random like appearence basis, or the B-Spec with a boring independent career mode.

In a way that was also a point of mine even if it didn't come through too well. There are quite a bit of features that they've implemented which should have been dropped.

I think there is a lot of room for improvement in quite a few areas. To be honest I hate actually racing in this game, it's very tedious and seems to be very difficult from a strategy point of view. I don't like tuning cars and it seems that I have to tune cars to be competitive. The AI is ruthless and if you get bumped your race is over and if you are in a championship you have to start ALL over again.

I realize many hate the rewind feature in many games, but when you are doing something like the GT World Championship and spin it in the last race and can't restart it's quite useful.

I feel like gaining money is very strange, if you do the special events you can easily get a good chunk of money and then that's it until you get to the Expert Races, and if you buy the wrong cars with that big chunk of money you are SOL. You can't sell cars, you really can't, cars in this game are worthless after you buy them. You can't trade more than once a day and you can't straight sell it to someone else. PD has basically built the economy of this game around communism.

As I farm up credits for cars I want to collect, I'm wondering what PD was thinking by not letting us collect multiple prize cars from running the same events / championships repeatedly... unless I totally missed something.

Honestly I dont hink theyve allowed that for the last couple iterations. I dont think you could win the same prize car multiple times in GT4 either. Been a while since Ive played though.

The gear ratio thing is inexcusable. I can understand glitches, stuff happens, but removing something as fundemental and easy to implement as that just shows contempt for the GT fan base. Am I too dumb to adjust my own ratios, PD?

Especially since its been in every game since the frist one.

I'm no expert, but with all these pages of complaints, I can see it only being a matter of time before a giant fix is released..

Hopefully, but who knows.

i like how a picture of a twin-screw blower (supercharger), and how the supercharger only nets 40hp on some cars.

lol, the game is obviously japanese biased. hope they dont do the same bs with gt6.

Theyve been doing it since the beginning, so I doubt it ever will. I always expect them to figure it out with "the next one" and they neve do. Aparently this game will always a milion Skylines, Civics, Integras Etc and much less cars from other places.

Plus, the Rim selection is atrocious, even for premiums.

.

You mean only for premiums dont you? Since those are the only cars you can change them on.

Poor selection of premium vehicles. Why barely any Aston Martin - my favorite luxury brand? No V8 Vantage (2005 model and up), No V12 Vantage, no DBS, One-77, Rapide etc. Bentley also needs serious representation here.

QUOTE]

Yes, definitly a major fail with the Astons, I honestly expected at least a few more. ITs like that with just about evenrthing not Japanese though. Ferrarri? How namy of those did we get? No GTB 4 cam? No Daytona? Really? So many Classic Ferarri Lemans car and nothing?
I guess they needed all that room to get a New Civic, Skyline and Integra fror each year. Why do I find myself complaining about this every time.

I have found this to be most obvious with karts... I think a draft adds something like 20mph to your top speed... it's far better to be in 2nd than first with karts.

Thats just silly. Of couse I havent experienced that becasue Im too busy spinning around in them because I dont have a wheel lol. Those things are nearly impossible to control with the controller.

I'm a huge fan of this game but some things drive me crazy and most of them are in GT auto. I hate the fact that we don't have a color pallet. Honestly whoever thought it would be a good idea to use colors from previous cars should be fired. Also the rims. This is my biggest complaint. Why arent rims available for every premium car.

Example: Choose the BMW m3 and go in the rim selection, now choose a gtr and do the same. The gtr has twice as many rims available as the m3. Why is something as simple as these two things done so horribly. Then there's the car delivery system, the used car dealership, the limited number of body kits. Some of them you have to pay close attention to see what was changed. I like this game but these stupid decisions keep me from loving it.

PD is lacking some serious common sense.

>>>>>>>PD is lacking some serious common sense <<<<<< This line summarizes GT5 perfectly ...it make no sense... some of the decision that PD made in this game ..none.

So called game journalist should be calling PD/KAZ on all these points.

it's funny, every forum i go to people are flipping out hahaha.

i agree, these things are really annoying and there were many dumb decisions.

i really hope at least a couple are fixable but looking at pd's history, i doubt it.

makes you wonder what fm4 has coming up ?

Guess what when Tune 10 announces FORZA 4, I'm BUYING A 360 ..Just for Paint job ...and customizations.period.

I know that the 360 hardware can not make the game look as good as PS3 system can... but GT5 is a let down for me...like everyone is saying ..Kaz made some stupid restrictive decisions in GT5.

It's sad that the game is turning out to be such a disappointment. I put countless hours into GT2, 3, 4, and prologue had me expecting a much better game. The pp system to limit vehicle performance are gone, the tuning aspect has been dumbed down, the visual customization aspect has been removed from 80% on the cars, the graphics on 80% of the game are last gen, and lack of mechanical damage and decent AI mean that even the driving experience is more of a chore than fun. I bought Forza 3 as a temporary fix until GT5 came out, but Turn 10 got so much more stuff right it isn't even funny.

gt5 definitely doesn't hook me as much as gt1,2,3,4 did.

feels so empty, played only a few days and im at around 50%,,,,,,uhhh once i get 100% (if i even decide to try), then what? what is gonna keep me coming back to this game on a random day?

Forza lets me go in, buy a car i think would be fun to customize, buy performance parts i want, buy aesthetic parts i wants, paint it, tune it, then i can drift it, race it, etc.

gt5 cant do half that stuff and it definitely isnt as fun

I'm just sad, that one of the things that was really great for us car lovers, and unique in this game (talking about the Test track) is gone? Why can't i measure 0-60 times, drag races, top speed and so on. ATM i'm driving down Circuit de la Sarthe, without chicanes, to test my top speed.. Am i the only one thinking of this, as a major step back?
Come on, who did not look forward to test the top speed of the Bugatti Veyron?

I bet you it's not in the game to hide some ugliness with the physics.

.............

Exactly the way I feel. I just don't feel a connection to the game as I did in the past. I could spend hours tinkering with this game and now it feels empty.

Where is the common sense and obvious gone in this game.

I bet you it's not in the game to hide some ugliness with the physics.

You sound like a poor man whose family was raped and murdered and GT5 isn't doing anything about it...

We get it. You don't like the game. You enjoy other particular games alot more. You're disappointed with it. But that is no reason you have to give one-lined posts every now and then saying it's a bad game and such, which in your eyes it is; understandable, yet pretty dumb, seeing you didn't even touch it.
You are posting no more than trollbait just to anger fanboys. There is a better way to express your opinions and thoughts, but throughout those 400 posts you just seem to fit the guy above, like GT5 is the corrupt government and all you can do is bad-mouth it.

And btw, physics are very, very good. I suggest you at least play an hour or so (preferably with a G27) before coming to such a conclusion.

Not all $60 go to PD, there's a food chain that the money goes to. SONY at the top and GameStop at the bottom.

So is there a way to FF or rewind when taking a photo in replays? its a pain trying to get perfect timing with pressing start button. And I dont like the race modifications because it chooses your color and has the gt logo all over, wish it would give the specs of race modding

This game sucks total ass as far as im concerned for the simple reason of the damage being a total trip into half-assed programming. When will KAZ figure out that Japanese people arent the only people who like racing games! I think he made an ok game, BUT he epic fails at making a awesomely great game because culturally he probably just does not understand what the many different audiences from around the world want in a racing sim. Look at the huge success of iRacing. They have a superb fan following! and a great physics and damage system! WITH REAL LICENSED CARS! Kaz just sucks at catering to the masses and instead made a game that he thought would be a "fun" racing sim. HE SAID REAL LIFE RACING AND GT5 ARE EXACTLY THE SAME!!!! BUAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

that just chaps my ass because you dont wall-ride another competitors car to win races, and you sure as hell dont expect to complete a race after said wall ride.

huge let-down. Gamestop can buy my copy back. consider my weekend wasted. looking forward to GT6 maybe 10 YEARS FROM NOW! MAYBE WITH INTERIOR VIEWS AND CHANGABLE RIMS!
