Base Models? What does that mean?

That is indeed what's great about this Base Models thing. The bad? It just gives more and more reasons for those who bash, justifiedly and unjustifiedly, GT for its shameless ways of increasing the car count. Because it's actually that.
This. It's a great idea, but somewhat dubious that they include the exact same car with the stickers missing as a "new car" and include it in the car count. But then again, there are dozens upon dozens of near duplicates in name only already in the game so what else would we expect. I'm surprised they don't throw up cars with custom rims or an added spoiler from GT Auto and add them to the car count:lol:

Here's what the base model looks like, it's not to paint over existing liveries, but just strips race cars of their liveries to make for a very simple one that can be painted like the RM's in GT5:

Like the Lexus that can be used in the GT5 DTM events. The "Racing Concept" or whatever they named it? Or the GT4 Black Beauties.

If this "base models" cars will be like the RM versions in GT5, that means we could:
-change color of the car
-change wheels
-change wheels color
-change the number
-change number type

Also, they will not be 100% labels free, they will have labels for the numbers and some GT sponsors, wich is fine to me

We kind of get another base model, except we can only have it black, ladies and gentlemen the Audi R18 Prototype:

If this thread turns into a thread about bare racing prototype/unliveried race cars, I'd be totally fine with it. Too bad Porsche went and ruined their LMP1 with that crazy camo.

This is one of my favorites Porsche didn't ruin, the '99 Porsche classified LMP:

I was just sticking to cars in GT6 but the crazy camo is something they all do, Hyundai have done it with their i20 WRC, I suppose if you're spending millions developing new technology the longer you keep bits of it secret the more time it takes the rivals to catch up.

I would also suspect that the base models might be cheaper. In real life it would cost more to buy a race car with a pre-painted livery than a base model.

These cars could probably the Racing modifications of its road-going counterpart and directly buy-able from the dealership. I hipe they can try to install a simplified livery editor where there a different sections of the car that you can paint with your paint chips. Kinda like the IRacing editor.

IMO there should be a "Base Model" of every available Race Car in the game...

Yeah, I've asked about that before. There must be some reason not all race cars have base model versions, we must be able to customize the BM's to an extent, which is cool. But that's the only reason I could think of why they wouldn't just BM every race car, since it seems to be just a simple reskin.

Their existence really lessens my hope of more cars including the RM option...which makes me sad

Maybe PD is preparing to make a livery editor.
But at first, Base models are models that we'll be able to edit as we can for now - change the base paint.
Something like the solid-colored Red Bull X2010 in GT5.

Despite the fact that many other people are bummed out because its artificially boosting the car count or that we don't get to create our own liveries, I was quite excited about these cars. In particular, the Garaiya GT300, F1 GTR, M3 GT2, IS350 GT300, HSV-010 GT500 and Supra GT500 piqued my interests.

For some reason I'd really like Super GT cars in plain white.

Ouch, you're right.
We need to to find a substitute, perhaps the Monaco Orange from Chevrolet?

*mental journeys*

I have been misunderstood.
I meant they are not really new cars, in the official list they are marked as new cars for the series but in fact most of them are GT5 cars without sponsors. ;)
I feel like from the screen shot we might be able to buy the paint chips along with collecting them, so we might be able to get past that

IMO there is no need for base models at all. Just allow the players to paint every car.Just remove the livery when it is painted and allow the player to later buy the liveries just like paint chips.

Now the situation is probably this: You can buy the Volkswagen Scirocco GT24 '08 in two versions. The paintable one (base model) and the VW livery one (Volkswagen Motorsport). So if you want to paint your scirocco gt24 you need the base model because the VW liveried one can not be repainted because it is not base model and only base models can be painted. Classic pd trolling.

I think pd went this way just to artificially boost the number of "new" cars and make the list of cars longer. What would have been more practical and more user friendly would be to just make as many of the race cars paintable and be done with it.

What PD should've done is grouped the base models along with all of the the racing team models into that particular car family. That way the liveries/base models are seen as different colours/paints and not as different cars

I was hoping to be able to paint all of my cars whatever color I could create, but I can live with this new system though. 👍

I just noticed something it seems like paints might effect the way sun reflects off of it and how rain is, based on the icons beside the price, but well I could just be looking too far into things.

I think the rain drop means there is a car wash along with the painting. I don't know, now you got me curious to find out what that is.

Strange, if we look at the other paint image all the paints are 2000 cheaper, it does not have the right icon "sun" thing, just the "water drop".

I would hazard a guess and imagine that the "sun" icon means "your car is damaged and cost includes repair body that damage", whilst the water icon suggest painting will wash your car.

I think it is the reflection, if you look at the reflection on the car, it's more dull than the other one, those might be paints from a premium car or the likes?

In regards to buying paints as opposed to collecting them, the second screenshot appears to dismiss this. The arrows on the list in the first screenshot suggest a long list of paints. However, in the second screen shot, no arrows, suggesting only those 7 paints are available.

I think that is just the different paint pearl instead of metallic.
Odd thing is that that blue paint doesn't look like what I imagine "Arctic White Pearl" should. :D
painting wheels.

The price is the amount of money that it will cost to paint the wheels or body, and not how much that paint chip costs.

The fact the wheels are the things being painted in the other may explain why the sun isn't there
I am believe it is suggesting body repair included when painting, see the same icons under body repair pit service.
