Oh no, no more than two badges on the car making it seem special. I'd say two rather small "ZL1" badges on either side in place of those of the Z06, slightly altered wheels, slightly more defined front and rear spoiler, maybe even one on the decklid. Obviously the hood-scoop will be a bit larger to feed more air into the engine, probably making a larger bulge in the hood anyway.

Anyways, I still think using the 6.2 is a mistake. It's going to ruin the balance of the car even without the probably very heavy supercharger.

Do you mean balance as in Shelby GT350 vs GT500 (poor weight issues), or balance as in the way the car feels? Because I'm sure engine displacement isn't going to affect much in terms of weight, and the supercharger doesn't exactly have to be either heavy or right behind the front bumper. Just not totally sure what you're referring to.

I'm sure that milling the engine less alone will cause the engine to weigh at least 30-50 pounds more. The supercharger and duct work would probably add another 50-75, not to mention mess with engine mounting locations and/or center of gravity.

According to what I am hearing, it will be called the Stingray, not the Blue Devil

What size wheels are those? 16/22?! Haha, what a sorry Viper/Z06 owner. He probably has neons on his too since he lists "lighting effects" on there.

Oh, whoops. For some reason I thought they were basing this off the 6.0 LS2 rather than the 7.0 LS7.

To be completely honest, I have no idea where this engine is comming from. At one point I had herd that it was spun off of the 6.2L L92 V8 out of the Cadillac Escalade, but that would seem far to irrational for a Corvette.

Yes, there may have been the sounds of supercharger whine evident, but I'm still a bit skeptical of the powerplant as a whole. We probably won't have a good idea of what is going to happen to the car untill Detroit 2007 at the earliest, and even then, that may be a long-shot...

I would assume that being a LS series it is essentially either a 6.0 with more bore or a 7.0 with less bore. Either way, it will weigh more than both the LS2 and LS7.

They could do a de-stroked LS7, not an outrageous idea, but I'm not sure how it would work out. I'd like to see a 6.5L (aka 396ci) make a debut, but I doubt that would happen any time soon. More news should flow at a trickle, but the photos certainly show that they are working on the car no less, and that is a good thing...!

They will call it the Stingray, to lure in all of the old fogeys who wanted one as a kid, will give it sharper sheet metal, and a split rear window.

Off-topic: They called Windows "longhorn" because it was the name of a bar or something in a resort.

I agree about the supercharger, but 0.8L of aluminum can't weigh 30 lbs, can it? And if it's simply de-stroked (with a lower compression ratio), it should pretty much weigh the same, sans supercharger. Of course, this could not even be an LS6/LS7-based engine like YSSMAN suggested, in which case that will definitely be a heavier engine.

I guess it really could be just like the GT500 compared to a GT350: lots more power, at the cost of handling and drivability.

Well I doubt any ammount of handeling or driveability will be sacraficed here. I'd predict it to handle better than the Z06, given that they will not have to make the suspension compromises that they did before, but also can go with a more outrageous setup when it comes to wheels and tires as well.

They want this to be the ultimate Ferrari-killer on a budget, so it will be interesting to see how it works out...

One thing that could prove to be a problem is that the Z06 is already far more a track car than a road car, how much more so will this be. A lot of people probably won't be bothered about a Ferrari killer that's no good on the road. I know I wouldn't.

It is an interesting question that I don't have a particularly good answer for. Super Corvettes in the past here in America generally would be shipped pretty much stripped to the bone. Spartan interiors and exteriors, and the obvious addition of more power and a suspension that is dialed-in better than others on the road.

...What that would translate to, as you point out, is difficult to describe given the position of the Z06 to begin with. I think the obvious route for GM to take with this car would be to do something alike the 911 GT2, taking an allready powerful car and stripping it down to the basics. I'd expect a fairly stripped interior, the leather/suede seats now common to cars like this, fewer layers of sound-canceling equipment, possibly the lack of a stero (although that is questionable), and the "fix" for the quirky suspension found under the Z06.

...But with the Z06 allready being so fast to begin with, I just can't imagine how much faster this car would be with an extra 100+ BHP.

(crossing my fingers that she becomes the first stock Corvette to have a top-speed north of 200 MPH)

The "Blue Devil" name sounds like a homosexual's nickname IMO.

Lets make it a rotary-powered mid engine car. Oops, this isnt the '80s anymore.

-sorry if I have offended anyone:guilty:

....Oh no, not this Corvette guy. I usually prefer to forget about the days when they considered a rear-engined, roatary-powered Corvette...

I think this:

goes a long way toward proving this:

The Blue Devil could be a Corvette to far, both too close and yet too far from the C6R. Given that we have no hard info, this could all be moot, but things are sort of pointing this way.

Well I certainly wouldn't doubt it. Guestimates on my behalf would put it north of 210, but it is a tough guess...

Or, who knows, this test car may be testing the technology to be introduced later or for the next-gen Corvette in the guise of the current C6.

^ Well, I'd doubt that for the most part. Given the time-tables as set-fourth by it's predecessors, we should be looking at a 6-8 year window for an all-new model. Given that, we would be looking at 2011-2013 before any new Corvette would be hitting the streets...

Well, looks like the Blue Devil is still alive guys. Check these out. Also note that huge lump! Blower?

Sorry, I have no specs on this, maybe someone else does.

Woah! oh dear... i dont even know how they would make that hood scoop look good if it's really that size and shape. as for the engine, it SHOULD be an LS powerplant. dear lord help us if they shove a supercharged version of that vortec 6200 lump-of-a truck engine in a corvette. And if it's an LS powerplant it should be an LS7 imo. there's no logical point in droping the displacement or going to an LS2, as no weight would be shaved by doing so.

on a side note, wasnt their talk at one point, of a northstar engine being used? like the supercharged 4.4 liter in the STS-V. displacement increase maby? a 6.2 liter, supercharged northstar? perhaps thats the 6.2 they are hinting at. using a twin cam engine would be somewhat of a throwback to the ZR1 of the 90's. but i believe the northstar is still bigger and heavyer than the LS even without a supercharger. Imo a supercharged LS7 is the best option.
