Qualifying times can be set offline, although its best to practice online because of how different the car handles.

Yeah that's what I did,I found that online ads 1 second or more per lap are qualifying times to the run on or off line ?

I've found that I'm faster online than I am in offline practice. Still, I'll only provide my offline time as it is the only one that I can prove I've done.

Wow, the tires change? I've been away since christmas and now I have 2 nights to set a new qualifying time? Well I am off to retune my suspension and see what time I can muster. Hope I can get in still.

Do we have an actual head count of who is going to be at the race? qualifying may not be that big of an issue? These tires sure add a challenge.

Well, I'll be there for sure, but from reading the last couple pages, seems some in the original list aren't posting?

The gap from sign ups to race was to long, we are gonna be missing people, I think we need a good size group to make the series great, maybe we should pm everyone and assume if they don't pm back there out?Maybe some would message back that there out and we would know.

well, so far 1:52.750 is my best offline at this point. Not too bad for about an hours work. Man these tires suck compared to racing softs though. Oversteer is even worse, but oddly more controllable. I should add that these tires make this car SO much fun to drive lol.

Anyone holding a online practice? had enough of racing on my own for one night lol

I'll get on, I would just like to practice with the online physics for awhile , and do some tire testing, is pit stop mandatory??

Ok, well I'll post my fastest offline time now, although if I manage to beat it before the end of Friday, I'll be wanting to update it :D

Edit:
Ranek: 1:53.299
Final time:
Ranek: 1:52.701

Yeah, with less that 16 active people in this race (which is what it seams to be) qualifying only serves to set grid order. I there are people who fail to qualify for this race, but still want to be in it, they will be placed at the back of grid on a first come first serve basis (if we extra slots). I will see if we can PM some the the less active people who signed up. I count about 7-8 people I would consider "active" right now, hopefully they will all show for the first race.

Can anyone put that replay in a different format? I want to see it so bad lol and I cant play it on this mac.

The replay isn't a video file, it's the exported best lap (ghost) replay from GT5. You'll need to unzip and copy the file to a USB stick, then copy it onto your PS3. From there you can import the replay into GT5 and watch the replay and also use it as a ghost to race against in practice.

Ok i'll do that, thanks!

@mike46and2

Pit stop is not mandatory. It is up to you if you want to pit or not. Omaha and ranek did a practice race and according to them around laps 12-15 the tires start to get pretty sloppy, so tire conservation strategy will become important at Monaco.

So I am going to submit my 1:52.112 as my official qualifying time. After doing a few more laps, I am satisfied with that time. This time is for offline practice.

rotarypower85: 1:52.112

For anyone interested, I again have a room open for practice. room number is

The open slots can be filled up until the start of the grid set "race". If you didn't get a chance to qualify just show up anyways at 8:30pm CENTRAL and you will probably get a spot. (Room number will be posted here shortly before the start of the practice session

How exactly does the grid setting work online? it seems a little strange the way it works in game. Maybe set out a procedure for everyone to follow to get set up properly for the race.

What we should do is when we are ready to start up the race, we do a 1 lap race of the track.

When this one lap race starts, we get in reverse order of the qualifying times, with people who have not set a time at the front and the fastest driver in last place.

Then we proceed to all drive around the track to the start finish, and complete the one lap race.

With the start order set to "Reverse grid on previous results" (or whatever the exact wording is for that option), that should set the fastest driver to pole, 2nd fastest to 2nd, etc, etc.

Then we can all get back out on the track and start the proper race.

tmoney is in charge of setting and qualifing. I'm sure he has a plan in place to organize things for the race.

We'll figure it out tonight, no need to worry about it.

Lets have some fun.

The grid will be set similarly to how ranek stated, except in reverse. We will do a 1 lap grid set race where we will organize from fastest to slowest with those who did not "qualify" in the back. Than i will set the grid to "fastest first" for the real race.

@mic1- Don't feel you have to quit just because your lap times are slower than what was posted here by others. Everything changes when wheel to wheel racing, if you can drive smooth and clean you will do fine.

From what I've found playing online, using fastest/slowest first sets the grid based on lap times set in the free run preceeding a race, and using the other option (set grid from previous race) puts the grid in the reverse order of the finishing positions from the previous race.

We should maybe test this before we attempt to set up the grid

We could just do what we've been doing for the Spec Miata Series that I'm also racing in. We just do a 20-30 minute qualifying session before each race to set grid order (it's now been changed to a 2 lap qualifier, but that's how the first 2 races were).
I think the original qualifier was mainly to limit the number of participants to 1 room's worth (16), but that doesn't seem to be an issue now...

Whatever's decided, it's all good to me 👍
