Sorry, I didn't make it on! Did you see M cars with aero parts? There were many cars not part of our league there that night. Perhaps it would be a good idea to summarzie the final rules and restrictions in the thread's original post?

This thread has been dead for the last few days. Are we still on for this Thursday?

I hope there is race this Thursday; of course we need the final rules and restrictions to be decided before that. It only leaves us about a day for setting up the cars and the next day will be race day.

I think that the lack of clear rules since the beginning and everybody giving ideas lead us to this point. cjs959 needs to make a decision about this as soon as possible.

Hey everyone... I want to push the start until Thursday next week. Sorry I haven't been around for a few days, really busy lately. We could still run a practice race but since I've been slacking the last few days I think pushing the start of the series back a week is a good idea.
I'll update everyone later tonight when I'm not using my phone.

That works for me!
My knee is really sore and I couldn't even last an hour probably anyway. It should be feeling better by next week though.

I am definitely in!
and also, I was messing around in all the M's I have today, and there is a huuge difference between say a base z4m or even the older gen mcoupe to say the m3 and m5
add me
psn: JasonTheSpartan

and carwise a modded z4m with actual "real life" tuning

We have to do some practice race this weekend in order to start the Championship next Thursday. cjs959 please write the final rules and restrictions so everybody can tune the cars.

Sorry I've been a little inactive... hell of a week at work.
Here are the finalized rules and restrictions.

1) Any M car is elligable
1A) Must use same car for entire series
2) 520PP limit (no use of the power limiter, only balast and modding)
I think it will be hard to enforce the ban of the power limiter so it will basically be an honor system.
3) No aero at all
4) Only sports tires (any compound)
5) Full adjust transmissions/ suspension are ok.
6) Race/lobby settings...
A) Real grip reduction
B) Heavy damage with NO PENALTIES ( I don't like the ghosting, and it will be more realistic) If everyone makes a good effort to race clean having no penalties shouldn't be a big issue.
C) There will be penalties in the form of point reduction/DQ for things like... wreckless driving (punting, shortcutting without giving position back, PIT manuevers, ext...) If you see any form of wreckless driving please PM me with a description of the event and a time of the event. I (and maybe a "admin" of sorts) will review the replay and determine penalty.

If I have missed something let me know. I'm now working on the schedule. I'll post it in a bit.

I gotta say I'm a little shocked/disappointed at the decision to allow full modding, SS tires, and a 520PP limit. I guess I saw it coming, but there goes a good skill-based stock racing series. Near 500hp M3s... just as I feared. :indiff: Also, you mentioned full suspension and full transmission but you didn't say anything about drivetrain—I assume anything goes?

This will take a lot more practice as for the past few weeks I have been driving my M3s around on SH tires, stock sus/trans/drivetrain, and a few bolt-ons putting me around the 495PP mark.

So I guess I'll put up a practice room to feel out these overpowered monsters now to see if I still feel like racing this series.

Room is closed. I may open another one later.

Ya I found the 520 PP limit to be best so we wouldn't have to heavily handicap the M5. I to have been running for the last few weeks at 500 PP with the few cars I'm debating using. I was useing SS tires, no tranny upgrades, adjustable suspension. At 520 PP I think my M3 is running around 450 HP which isn't bad. I don't think 520PP is unreasonable at all, especially compared to 500 even. It's just a good number all cars can get to and keep things even. With sports tires and that kinda PP it should still allow the talented drivers to shine and keep things interesting. The main reason I decided to allow the Full adjust stuff is because of the difficulty of enforcing mods restrictions.

Yeah it's super difficult to police mods... hopefully PD will realize how many series are being run here and add in the ability to hand pick what mods are/aren't available to use. But just like the power limiter, you'd have to go on the honor system. The Spec Miata series is restricted to fixed suspension this season and I have good faith that everyone there is adhering to it.

Also, I can't even get the M3 or the CSL up to 520PP... so I guess if I stick with this series I'll be using the GTR. That's one of the reasons I was pushing for 500 even.

Ya i got the 07 M3 and the CSL to 520 pretty easily... I did 1 or 2 weight reductions on the 07 and then had to balast it to get it back down to 520. The CSL is already pretty light so just doing some engine work got it there easily and then both of em are at the same PP and about the same HP and weight.

It is what it is. While I would definitely prefer sports hard tires at least we aren't using racing tires. I was thinking of joining the integra type-R RM series until I realized they are running racing hard tires. I really don't understand what motivates people to put slicks on 300hp cars.
(Edit: The car is still fun and the day and time are good for me so I've decided to give the series a go after all)

I agree though that more tuning ultimately makes the races less skill based (driving skill that is). Since I'm not a tuning expert I just rip off other peoples settings anyway. Policing restrictions can't be done perfectly, but one option is to have the top three winners share their cars right after the race for inspection. That's what we do in the japanese classics league anyway.

One thing about this series that I'm happy with is the track selection. Good choices in my opinion.

No power limiter? That doesn't make any sense. Why?

I use the power limiter on almost every single car for PP racing. This is going to completely destroy the tuning I've done to prepare for this.

Well, the power/torque curve is different if you are significantly above the max allowed and then use the limiter compared to actually being at the max allowed without using the limiter. Maybe that's why?

PS: Perhaps the original post should be updated to show the finalized rules and schedule.

You do understand that those are RM cars... I think that's fine if that's what they want for the series. There are plenty of real race cars that have less than 300hp (The S800RSC comes to mind. It's 100hp and it comes equipped with RH (Now that I think about it, that might be a fun series :))). If it's a full on race series then I think RH is appropriate... yeah slicks on street cars is ridiculous but if the cars are RM then it becomes something different. But this M group is more of a street modded series, so sport tires are perfect.
This is going to completely destroy the tuning I've done to prepare for this.
Then you haven't been doing the proper tuning to begin with. The entire thread is peppered with talks of 500-520PP for the limit; if you've modded your car so far beyond those figures that you can't even get back down by removing all your parts then you have already gone overboard with your tuning.

Is it windy up there on your high horse?

Unregister me from this race. That rule is going to be too difficult to enforce to bother having it. Guaranteed it will be broken and then you'll just be handicapping yourself by not breaking it. If you wanted every car to be identical then you should have just made it a one make race with stock '07 M3s.

What a goon. I say let him use the power limiter... there's no easier way to police that than any suspension or drivetrain mods. And with the way the limiter works it only makes finding the proper rev range impossible with a flat line for what is supposed to be a curve.

Regaurdless of what anyone thought, no one should be upset because they have a car that is over modded for the series. The rules have finally been writen in stone, what you've done before hand with your car is your own fault, cjs didnt tell you to mod them any which way until now.

I'm interested

Would mostly likely race a new M3.

I likely can't be available every week, but could probably commit to 50-60% or something of that nature.

Edit: I saw the date and time of the events and I can likely make most except for 2 or 3. I really don't care about loss of points, but I'd understand if other members want someone who can commit to all the dates.

Not without irreversible modding. I prefer to avoid doing things that I can't undo. 👍

It's not like these cars are expensive in GT5. All you need to do is run a high level race or two and you would have enough credits to buy a second M3. You can then keep one stock and mod the other one up.

Some standard cars are hard to come by though, like the GTR for example.

I'm considering dropping all the weight from my GTR but haven't since I can't undo weight reductions. Anyone have thoughts on this? I'm thinking I'll gain a lot in reduced tire wear by reducing the weight, but I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Anyone have an extra GTR they want to throw my way? ;)

I wasn't aware I wasn't supposed to mod my car either. There was no mention at all when I joined a practice lobby with you guys. My car was already modded as I do with almost every car and cjs didn't say anything about my car that night. I'm not going to read back through a dozen pages of forum posts to learn what should have been mentioned in the OP.

Just because you guys are driving BMW's doesn't mean you have to act as arrogant as the real-life owners of these cars. Or is that just part of the roleplay of racing "stock" BMW's?

I didn't say anything because I thought it was understood among everyone because of the talk in the forum... You lashed out in your post and everyone was just commenting on how you were acting. It wouldn't be to difficult to either uninstall certain things or just buy a fresh car for the series. Instead you backed out and not in the most pollite way. I don't think anyone here would have had a problem if you just said you weren't interested anymore. If you still want in the series and can uninstall mods or get a fresh car your still welcome. If you don't have any interest anymore please refrain from posting on this thread.

Any comment on whether this series is still open. The first post says that it is, but nobody has responded to my post above. Thursday is tomorrow so I would certainly like to know before then.

Well can I join?

You could dupe it if you are not against doing that. However with one trade per console per day, it would take 2 days to effectively dupe a car. So might be easier to find a replacement in the used car lot for many cars.

Sorry if my original comment seemed crass. I was thinking only of Premium cars when I made it. I had completely forgot about the difficulty obtaining some of the UCD cars.
