Just watched Amo's lap, he loves that handbrake doesn't he

Yea, I was just going to comment on that. Nothing at all wrong with using that technique if you can master it. I have just got done studying his lap rather intensively, and the use of the handbrake seems to let him have a faster exit speed, due to the car getting rotated quicker because of the handbrake.

I have decided to really start analyzing the top guys laps in order to hopefully take my skill set to the next level. Yours was the next one I was going to study. I really think that it is my driving style, mostly, that is keeping me from advancing my skill set, therefore, I'm just looking for anything that I can change that may help my progress. I know that practice is the best medicine and believe me, I practice a lot to the point of almost being insane, but I really think that there is more than that that's holding me back. Your videos are also a big help Twissy, as I study them religiously. Really appreciate you putting them all together. Anyways, I see I'm rambling so I'll close for now. Back at it, a 'Rats work is never done, gotta go chew up the track some more. Peace.

@BanditKarter22 Yea, he is using it on a few of the corners.

Just took it for a spin and got Bronze. Great car, very happy with it. Will have to give this a proper go once I fix my sticky brake pedal. :grumpy: Its sticking just enough to slow me down. It only happens after I apply the brakes, showing about 1/4 brake pressure on the HUD display. If I tap the brakes, it releases the rest of the way. I think I may need to clean them inside or blow them out. Any suggestions on this. Thanks.

I had the exact same problem with my G27 brake pedal after about a year. Took it apart, removed the pedal and spring assembly and literally lubed every single moving part. I used Permatex White Lithium Grease from Autozone.

I have not had any problems since. I did strip one of the screws on the pedal itself, which was a b*** to get off, so be careful with those.

Thanks for the tip. I took it apart and cleaned the pot, which seemed to help a little but still having intermittent spikes every now and then, so maybe I'll take it apart again and do as you say as I didn't lube anything, just cleaned it.

EDIT Well, after studying Amo's lap, all I have to say is, when in Rome, do as the Roman's do, or in this case, when at the 'Ring, do as Amo does. I say this because after doing as he is doing, I have managed to pick up time in all sectors. On one lap, I was up on my ghost by almost a full second until that touchy chicane boundary at the end got the best of me. :banghead: You surely can't take that chicane like you could in GT5, otherwise its a big DQ. In my opinion, that boundary is a little unforgiving because I know I have had two tires on the curb and I've still gotten DQ'd. Very frustrating that spot is because of that. It is what it is I guess, just have to adjust. Anyways, if I can put it altogether, I should have a pretty good improvement.

Nice event I think for getting the ball rolling, but god why does it have to have SRF on!? With G27 (no aids except ABS 1 ) I struggled 2:19,5 -ish due to spinning on applying throttle and understeering when braking so I had to drive way too cautiously. Got frustrated since all the top laps will be with SRF on , switched it on and first like got low 2:16 and 2nd 2:14,7 and decided to quit for now to play more career (just wanted to get the credits ;) ).

It's stupid how much grip enabling SRF gives you; out of thin air! Should be forced off always for seasonals in my opinion, they are after all meant to be expert content, or atleast so I think. Normal careermode can be a bit easier for the rookies, but I expect a fair challenge in seasonals... Which would be true with SRF off. But why would you cripple yourself if you want to be competitive with others... :banghead:

Why do people hate SRF? Do people really like to be challenged that much.
I enjoy playing the game with some aids on, am I not die-hard GT dude?

Well the girlfriend is having a camp so I've had 1/2 dozen runs and have improved slightly to 2:11.176, a couple of tenths better.
Still beating Cargo to Dunlop corner #8 and often beat the Bandit to the first corner.

But as Cargo says, it doesn't count unless you can string them all together.

...I have a feeling you're gonna get reemed out for discussing the forbidden fruit.

did 5 laps without SRF, high 2:13, which more or less what i expected. from GT5, SRF seemed to gain me average of 2 - 3 seconds a lap faster, on average size circuits where F1 cars take minute and a half or less to complete.

i have this jinx that i never able to better my time come from first 5 laps;( must be a habit of playing GT5 races that were usually 5 laps at most, and you tend to do your best lap on your last, the 5th lap. was -0.7 on 6th lap but spun on very last corner and disappointment overcame my body throughout.lol if i want to do improvement, i must get away from it and do something else, cooking, watch tv, or do my company work at home which i never usually do:P - then come back and try again.

to be honest it was more fun driving without SRF, certainly more realistic but the reality is they allow you to use it so we all must exploit whatever we can to the limit. it's like F1 teams and racers dislike DRS, they say it's artificial and ridiculous but if you choose not to use it you'll be left out so just gota accept the fact and move on i guess. im sure PD will eventually disable SRF though, if they don't well then i'm just gona enjoy doing career mode without any aids and will treat TT less seriously, will still do it though to test my ability against young guns.

Edit:

So the top times are using SRF?

Looks that way....

So, forget what I said above about not going to use it. After I saw your post I checked the board and looks like it's the way to go...so be it

on leader board you can click on anyone to see his/her driving condition, what tyre or what control method one could be using. all top timers indicate they switched SRF 'ON'. actually to score that kind of times its impossible without using SRF.

Good to know, thanks.

Are majority of the top times are also using the E-Brake into turn 1, and a couple guys trying it thru turn 3? I heard earlier about some e-brake shenanigans from a friend but I was running SRF off before so it seems like I'm a little bit slow with the trends...:dunce:

Isn't the ebrake the regular brake as opposed to the handbrake? or do I have it wrong?

I am now at 2:10.1 on full gas out of almost every corner and wondering where 4 seconds are  After this I've realised that TC was on 5 and that you have to set it every time you enter the session
Very "twisty" track this Nurburgring, you can find ways to improve speeds an almost every session.

ebrake (emergency brake) and handbrake are the same thing, at least where I come from.
cool ... I always thought it was the opposite. This made me think about something though... what about cars that don't have a handbrake? A lot of them only have the "hand brake" as a foot pedal... how do they use that in racing? if they don't shouldnt it be removed ingame?

apart from available intake and exhaust upgrades, back ballast weight seems the only option to improve your handling balance to improve your time. i did 60kg at the very back (50/50) to improve by 2 secs. 80kg (49/51) seems to be too much my lap time deteriorated.

apology to everyone, the above statement seems to be completely untrue. the event initially gives you a free M4 that can be modified lightly but that very car will not be used for the event whatsoever - i chose my car to be black but as i enter the event they make me use their gold coloured M4, with its original hp and setup. if you doubt, go change your oil and it says you clocked 0.0km after all that running - because your own M4 never did.

the back ballast weight handling b/s that i was talking about must be totally a placebo effect - i "thought" my back was heavy and was believing i was having an oversteer.lol its incredible, actually, that i can make the car oversteer by simply believing, wholeheartedly, that my back end is heavy.

if you want to improve your time, just "believe" your car is more powerful and steers nicely.lol

When I first tried this, could only reach bronze. After about 3 hours of trying, I finally managed gold with following settings:

Time: 2:17.450
Trans: MT
TCS: 0
ABS: 0
SRF: OFF
Controller: DS3

Really difficult controlling the wheel spin out of corners/not locking brakes using the DS3. Also a bit annoyed that you can't filter the global rankings to players that used the same settings/controllers. But nailing gold felt really good, especially that I did not had to enable ABS.

I must say that driving in GT6 feels really good and the M4 is a pure joy to drive. Thanks PD and can't wait for them to release the interior.

Is it really an achievement beating someone to the first corner? I can beat anyone to the first corner if I don't brake...:sly:

You are correct in that some cars have the emergency brake operated as a foot pedal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parking_brake I see what you are getting at, but you have to remember, this is just a game and it is not always completely true to real life.

Yes, it's the same as all the cars that are only autotransmission in real life but can be driven with manual in game. Would love it if they specified that in the car info and then disabled manual tranny, handbrake or whatever is missing on the real car. Would be cool. :)

True but still you can use the foot pedal as a "ebrake". it just take more practise.
I have seen it my own eyes.
Sitting in the passenger seat in an old mersedes when buddy of mine felt a little childish during winter time

Yea, I had a few friends that did that also. Great fun until you wind up in a snow bank and get stuck there.
