Body-Kits in GT4

Doesn't anyone here realise that body kit = add-on piece = ricer? I'm sorry if I offend anyone, but having to buy a bodykit almost automatically says ricer to me. To have a race car you dont add a body kit... The structure itself of the car is modified. The Racing Modifications from GT1 and GT2 is more than sufficient, if they can add maybe a few different looks it would be better, if not, big deal. Get over it guys

That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. It's one thing if you're talking about fugly looking veilside kits and other huge kits that just add weight to the car, but to say that a body kit of any kind=rice is pretty stupid. People have been modifying the body and shape of cars for probably as long as their have been cars. Just to give you an example: What about all the hotrod guys who modify the body of their cars and put flames on them, shave door handles, moldings, add chrome etc...are they "Ricers" because they want to make their car look different? Adding a body kit or any exterior modification to a car may not add performance, but as long as it doesn't hurt the performance of the car, what's the problem with it? You may not like the way body kits look and if that's the case, I respect your opinion, but I think the right body kit can really..."finish" off the look of the car. :)

Um, remember GT2?

And how are bodykits just associated with ricers? They can improve aerodynamics.

Bring them back.

That sentence seems contradictory to me. You are saying how they did all those mods for looks ( which means it has nothing to do with performance --> ricer) and then you ask me if they are ricers because they want to make their cars look different? I think that's one of the dumbest things I've ever read. However you would like to look at it, when taking a broader view, both are rice. So what if one has more historical value than the other, both are useless. Only this can be called American Rice...

I like the way some bodykits look. I like modest looking bodykits, those that are a little noticeable and that don't scream out rice. Those, as you say, can very well finish off a car. But as you seem to be saying, these bodykits don't do anything else...

The only thing I was trying to pass on here is that most add-on pieces are just for looks. The chassis on a race car is modified to race.. they don't just decide to add some fender flares on the sides, add a front lip spoiler and some side skirts and voila! Race Car! Thats why I'm 100% behind the idea of bringing back Race Modifications but not bodykit crap. If you want to put bodykits to make a car nicer looking or different ( because let's face it, sometimes the car is many times uglier than stock form)... wait until Need For Speed Underground comes out, and you should be happy then. This game is a SIMULATION, it's GRAN TURISMO, not a street racer game.

Not bodykits, race modifications :P They should just add a few options to it so you can change the look of it abit. But the bodykit itself is just a look thing.

Aerodynamics don't get that much more efficient. How much would you gain on a drag coefficient factor? 0.001?

Whats up with all this ricer crap.. rice is good yes but really dont understand it lol oh well... anyways.... the modifications in gt2 was cool added a nice look to the car at the end... I wouldnt want bodykits and such in a gt game but.. if PD wants to do a whole evolution of cars and all maybe they should add it cuz it is kind of a culture and people do modify there cars not only in tunning but in body work aswellso i could see a point in adding them in... but i dunno i dont think that PD would add it in anyways maybe just the modifications but thats proably it. I see alot of people taliing about eh not that bodykit crap and alot of people want it, hey like i said before in another post PD isnt making a game for only yourselfs there making it for everyone to like, same as the trucks and SUVs just cuz you dont like it doesnt mean that they should add it in, same with this everyone has there opinion but if you dont like it theres no need to cry and talk crap about it. I see as this if PD did like it and you didnt want it in the game then dont worry bout it just skip over that part and pretend it isnt there. i dunno if its just me but race modifications do look like body kits to me lol accept for the extra tunning stuff but they do use body kits soooo in conclusion some of you make no sense in wanting the modifications and not bodykits since on the exterier there both THE EXACT SAME THING!....

I agree with some of what Ethix101 said. I may hate ricers, but i do like unique cars and certain bodykits would be nice. (i like how some cars look stock but they're some that can look better with a kit).
Not because someone wants to add to there car what they think is a little beauty doesn't make them a ricer.

see now this i agree with. (i get where you're coming from.... i hate the exstravagant (sp?) body kits that some people have, but i don't consider them all ricers cause in my book ricers= all show and no go. Some people like some show with their go. :)

Bring back Racing Modification, they were modeled after real cars.

You're right...it did sound contradictory and that's my mistake, I typed it up too fast without really thinking about where I was going with it. :)
The point I failed to make by mentioning Hot Rods is that you were basically making a derogatory remark about every car that has a modification that is entirely for looks.

You like some body kits, but you also say that body kits=rice?

Well, a racing modification could be considered a body kit.

If not, name the key differences between a body kit and a racing modification.

Racing Mods just add stickers and a spoiler most of the time. Body kits are like bolted on or whatever to make the car look like a POS! (Most of the time, mostly on hondas and the like.)

You like some body kits, but you also say that body kits=rice?
Yep :)
Weird huh? I tend to think most about functionality and in this case, bodykits, where the word kit should say it all, are there to try and make a car look nicer by giving it a different look, some ground effect, maybe make it seem larger, and are not very functional apart from that. Non-exaggerated bodykits can be nice, and I believe I may have exaggerated my point of view on what is rice. I agree that moderate mods can be quite nice, and probably not considered rice.

On the other hand, I think it would be too difficult for PD to simply put in bodykits and hope that everyone will like the selection. Just look at how many different wheels there are in GT3. I only like 5 or 6 in total. Too many people to please. All they could do is maybe bring in renowned brands to narrow it down abit.

What I'm hoping for is the return of racing modifications, because once that mod was done in gt2, the care would become so much quicker. If I remember well, the car receives a roll cage, chassis is stiffened, and more weight reduction is done. I'm pretty sure that what we are referring to as bodykits on the cars with RM are actually proven racing parts. And thats why I'm trying to differentiate between kits, and racing parts.

Well. 9 months later... PD has put in the racing modification from GT2 in GT4. I think that this is the closest to putting body kits on cars that we can get.

TO be honest..i would love body kits in the game...i dont care if people consider me a ricer or not...sometimes it seems(when it comes to cars) when someone likes something that someones else doesnt, they are considered a "ricer", specially with this body kit stuff..in another thread, i read that a ricer is someone who adds a body kit, adds 20 inch rims, does nothing to the car under the hood to lets say a..Honda Civic..Then after all is done..The person thinks they can whoop anybodies ass on the road, they think they can take on a viper, they also think they know more about cars then anyone else...Well i dont think i know more then anyone about cars, and even if i do, i wont throw it in their face..But yeah, back to the point...Body kits in the gt series is welcome by me...

"Bodykits"; I find it kind of cool to see how one little word can start such contraversy. A bodykit is just more than one body part, put together into kit form, and sold as an aftermarket "performance" product. Most bodykits sold in North America are crap. One hundred percent all show, no go. Directly on the opposite side of the spectrum, a lot of the Japanese enthusiasts are a lot more...hardcore. They like carbon fiber everything, with all functional bodykits. None of this "let's put a 24" tall wing their, because we think it looks good". To rice, or not to rice; this is the age old question that haunts us all. Will Yamauchi san have crappy Wings West body kits, or JGTC type C-West body kits, in GT4? Or will GT4 offer the bodykit options at all?

"bodykit" = multiple peices of aerodynamic bumper replacements or add-ons to a vechicle.

Whether it's ugly or not is personal opinion, but either way it's changing airflow throughout the car. To say all body kits are rice is ignorant and just shows lack of knowledge in this certain area of racing and physics. Companies like C-West, Bomex, Mugen, etc.. all make kits that are beneficial to performance whether you buy it for looks or not. On most street cars a body kit is for looks mostly, but GT4 isn't about driving on the streets. All cars, or most of them :P , are reaching high speeds in which aerodynamics play a huge role. The airflow physics in GT3 weren't all that great but I've read they've improved it in gt4. Once you drive a 1800lb vehicle 150+ mph without a body kit, then drive one with a bodykit, you'll never realise how much difference it makes. Name any competitive road car that is using a factory bumper setup (excluding those cars which come with aerodynamically influenced bumpers from the factory, porsche, ferarri, lambo, etc). Even with those cars some people still prefer to use an aftermarket body kit on them. Someone mentioned the NFS: Underground series, now those bodykits are mostly for looks, it's a street car game. GT4 is a road car simulator. It has street/economy cars in the game, but unlike in the city streets they are able to acheive high enough speeds for aerodynamics to be detremental to performance. When someone said, "All bodykits = rice" i knew what you were trying to point out, but maybe try to explain yourself a little more so people know WHY. That's why there is Rice, it is due to lack of knowledge.

What do people think the race mod in GT1 and 2 were, kit's if you get the chance to change the rear wing or the front spioler fine, as long is it's performance parts only.

85 000 credits for a bodykit only?

Yep, racing bodies on cars are body kit's a bodykit does'nt have to be a stupid ricer front and rear spioler set, Touring cars have bodykits, and GT is just a game it's 85,000 Cr not $ or £.

Yes but you could buy fast cars for half the credits... get my point? Its not just a friggin add-on bodykit  If you never realised, the weight of the car is also decreased when you do race modifications. And from what you say it is adding a bodykit for racing ( adding some weight wether you like it or not ). So it must be doing something else no??? Thats why 85 000 credits for a bodykit only is ridiculous. And it doesnt matter if it isnt in $, its just to prove a point :P

No it's replacing the body panels with lighter parts and adding more aerodynamic parts, it even says that in the info about the mod a carbonfiber body is alot lighter than a metal one which most cars are. The only kits that add weight are ricer kits which are only there for looks and NOT performance.

why just bring back racing modfication when you could have ultimately the same effect but with more of a custom element such as placing and possibly making your own decals etc.

You just might get your wish. Read this, it's from an article/interview with Yamauchi-san.

"The team is hard at work adding visual mods, like bodykits from companies such as C-West or GP Sport, but there are no promises– there is so little time it's highly unlikely that all 500 cars will receive this loving touch."

The difference between the "Racing Mods" of GT2, and bodykits is the racing mod was a final weight reduction, it added roll bars, and added a racing car body, not just bodykit add-ons.

Bodykit add-ons are just that, a silly looking wing, or ground effect "skirts" that have been simply attached to a car. They are NOT designed for performance, just ease of attachment and "improved" looks. If the bodykits have a strong benefit to a car's performance, and most do by a small margin, it's something that happened by accident. A lot of trial and error is needed to attach a "wing" to a car. You can't just slap one on, and expect to drive it like a race car. These attachmnents create a lot of drag, so a very powerful engine is needed to get the vehicle up to a fast enough speed to make these attachments useful.

I agree that the average bodykit is pretty much useless. But what's the harm in having them in the game.

I'm much more interested in having custom paint and decals.
