The Northstar program is on its final stages, about to be replaced by the Ultimate program within the next year or two.
I know that, but the supercharged Northstar out of the XLR-v would be good enough.

My guess is that it can't be any "less-civilized" than the 6.2L V8 found in any AMG product, but certainly is a departure from the Northstar program...
DOHC vs. OHV. And one of the major complaints about the old CTS-V is the lack of engine refinement compared to its competitors.

This One Was in the Oven for a While...

The grand finale of GM's Cadillac press conference was the moment everyone had been waiting for. After a brief introduction from Bob Lutz, who ziplined in from his secret lair in the RenCen, the hotly anticipated Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept rolled onstage, with design head Ed Welburn riding 'gun. The Coupe blends the CTS sedan's face with a new, wedge-shaped 2-door body that finishes off with what Ed described as a "hint of Cadillac fin" in the arrangement of the taillamps. The concept's rear had a single central exhaust outlet whose shape is a nod to the chevrons used to dress up the current CTS interior. Speaking of the interior, the CTS was dressed in black with maize-colored sueded accents and contrast stitching. In another departure from the sedan, the 2-door CTS has sportier, deeper seats. Welburn was intentionally vague abour powertrains, saying it could be powered by a number of existing ones (i.e. the ones in the CTS sedan) as well as a diesel. The car, according to him, was born out of the extra efforts of his design team, who penned the Coupe for fun after the sedan was finished and never stopped refining it. It got to a point where the a concept was approved, and though no mention of a production version was made, this looks like a sure thing in our opinion.

Tone down the rear a bit and you get a good idea what the production one will look like. I like it a lot, brings back memories of the old El Dorado that died in the '90s... The thought of a CTS-V coupe is rather exciting as well!

Personally, if they moved the C-pillar three inches forward, it'd look better. This car's not doing much to look like a luxury car, instead loking like a late '80s Japanese sport compact, fused with a late-model Celica and stuck with a Cadillac nose and baby tailfins.

That’s… unexpected. I was expecting a CTS sedan with a little bit from the middle taken out. This tries too hard to combine the success of Infiniti’s G-coupe with Cadillac’s Art & Science design.

Wwwwoooow! This idea is amazing. I think it needs a little more trunk, which it would probably get in production, but this is just awesome. Design changes here and there, but I think this concept looks powerful, fast, and nimble. I can't wait to see a production version.

uh...haaaatchbaaaaack.

ew. Honeslty, looks like an overweight AE86.

You need new glasses

The yellow brake calipers are a bit much. If they do tone that rear, I won't look terrible, but right now I am leaning towards :yuck: on it.

What glasses?

That rear profile is straight out of the '80s. Perhaps not a Hachiroku, but something with a hatch that decends straight from the roof to the back corners of the car, and not curved a bit. The angle from the base of the A-pillar to the taillight tip is approaching last-model Celica steepness. In the most basic of it's proportions, it could fit in a hole made by a C-Class coupe, were it not for it's hard edges.

It needs about three inches of trunk to work correctly, and perhaps move the C-pillars in a bit, so as to rest on the plane of the trunk, like, say, a 1968-1970 Dodge Charger. might work, then.

The tail is a bit "odd" (nothing that can't be worked out), but my first thought was that the grille looked better. Not as "angle-ly" as the sedan...

Finally realized why this thing looks ugly to me, it reminds me of a certain 80's car which I just remembered.

Thats right, it looks like the FWD 80's Dodge Charger....

Hideous. Did they take some LSD before sculpting that model? Tone everything down, make the proportions somewhat respectable and they might have something in a coupe CTS.

I appreciate the attempt to make it more interesting than "just" a 2-door CTS, and overall I like it, but the tail is too tall, the C-pillars are too thick, and rear visibility is too poor. But you guys already knew that.

It could be worse, but it's not that great looking. But I think they could use it as the batmobile in the next Batman movie.

Like I was saying, the back looks like ANY '80s hatchback.

Well, that came around sooner than I expected...

I've never heard of this 3.0L unit, so I'm wondering if its a punched-out version of the 2.8L offered elsewhere in the world. Odd too, because its making the same amount of power as the "standard" 3.6L LY7. Otherwise, its pretty much the same deal.

Its probably not NA. I'd assume turbocharging, like a bored out version of the low pressure Saab V6.

*Whistles*

pretty sharp. It's taken me a few months, but I've changed my mind on the CTS Coupe, too.

Now, the wagon is incredible, if a bit too angular for conventional tastes. It is part of the Cadillac theme, but looks out of place for an estate. Of course, it will make for quite a sleeper car if the larger engines fitted to the sedans find their way into the estates should it go into production. Then they can compete all-out against the BMWs.

The hatchback... not a good car for Cadillac, but elsewhere, not bad.

Initially, I think it looks a lot like the SRX, maybe a bit too much. I'd say my biggest complaints so far are the way the taillights climb all the way to the top of the roof and the way the last pillar is wider at the top than the bottom.
